Warmonger
We have two more years with a witless cheerleader steering the ship of state into an iceberg. 93 Iraqis and 3 Americans die every day. How much more death will the "surge" cause? These people are war criminals.

He is chosen
He is certain
He is the decider...
Did we expect otherwise...
If so then we also meet the definition of Stupid...
blah blah blah
Impeach
blah blah blah
200,000 troops required to secure just the infrastructure...not communities..
blah blah blah
Sit back and enjoy the shoo

Draft Dodger in Chief
Greetings
The martial virtue of Dubya, who hid from his own war in a cushy state side TANG billet bought by mommy while other men died. Now other men die to cultivate his ego and self identity.
The unreality in the Furhrer Bunker on 1600 Pennsylvania is chilling. Is he bat shit crazy or is it just another dimension of the self absorption of a spoiled rich selfish frat boy who never grew up...
Enjoy the journey

Bush the Great Military Commander
What George Bush wants more than anything is to be a great military commander. The day he landed on the air craft carrier in a flight suit was the height of his dreams and the very essence of his self image. He would like to see Napoleonesc statues of himself standing with his chest out and rows of medals. He dreams of being a military hero. This is who he wants to be. As a result he will always take the military option. He will always be susceptible to anyone who tells him that there can be a military victory. No one ever becomes a hero through diplomacy so he will always reject diplomacy as an option. It just doesn't work with his self-image.

impeach the man
I can't think of anything to write about after today's denial and firm belief by the president that America is going to win. It is obviously a C student's attitude because all C students believe they have done well and will do well in the future amid years and years of C grades.
I can't think of anything else to add to the boiling debate on Salon's columns about what went wrong and what to do to at least stop the bleeding and start the healing.
The president is obviously and dangerously out of touch with the realities of the Iraq chaos and unaware of the difficulties that the armed forces have to deal with. He is stubbornly repeating what we all know is a lie and false news.
Unlike him, we read papers, and seek news from international news stations or papers and we are fully aware of the grave danger looming and hovering over the Middle East.
So why is he still trying to convince us that America has hopes of winning. I thought the Mission was Accomplished.
Why do the reporters still go to these press conferences ? The man has nothing to offer, you know more than he does, and you have far more reaching intelligence capabilities.
The Middle east will not know peace if America is in Iraq, and America will not know what to do if Bush is still president. I say impeach the man on the basis of lack of competence, we've had it wtih him, c'mon!!! after today's press conference, I say Basta!!! NO MO!!!!

So Manly.

This is starting to sound like "Night of Camp David"
Except it's not just the president whose elevator has quit going to the top floor, it's also his advisers, the members of the so-called think tanks, the Washington media and a good chunk of the Congress. Including the nominal Democrats who are saying "Well, we have to wait and see" and "We don't want to act rashly."
-
Napoleon is not a bad parallel
Nancykline, you say that Bush wants to be a Napoleonic figure. He may already be one. Napoleon attempted to seize Egypt as a French colony with inadequate preparation and total lack of understanding of the people or terrain. The result was that the British whipped his sorry arse, or would have if he hadn't already fled the country, abandoning his men to be slaughtered.
Bush, there's a retirement condo with your name on it on St. Helene. What are you waiting for?

We deserve him
Does it make any difference to point out that his Churchill analogy misses the point that England was defending itself from an invader and, in Iraq, we're the invader? Nah! These arguments are just sand thrown in our face to keep us at bay while he pursues his monomaniacal, imperial agenda. And, since most of our "citizens" are too busy watching the latest reality show or too brain-dead from decades of consumerism to care, let's just crank up the generators, uncork another bottle o' wine and party 'til we puke! Yeah!

On the Positive Side ....
On the positive side, if Bush follows the AEI recommendations, it may sink "neoconism" for all time.
-
It could be worse!
How? Well personally, I could be James Baker or Sandra Day O'Connor. In addition I glad I'm not one of the other conservative intellectuals whom helped this vacuous, vain, uncompassionate jerk become President Of The United States. Tragic!!!
Most guilty in my opinion of all the characters involved in the CONSENT to this knowingly disastrous endeavor of invading Iraq? Colin Powell

Response
Those of you who still have faith in the system should write, email, phone, or visit your congressional representatives and voice your conviction that Mr. bush must be challenged.
-
Isn't it time . . .
. . . actually, well past time, for someone in Congress to call for a hearing into the sanity of our dear Decider?
Impeachment hell. He needs to be committed to a psych ward for observation.

Don't Mess with the Establishment
As our domestic political situation deteriorates in lock-step with our international standing, a truly disturbing threshold has been crossed. Our nation's senior military officers have apparently been given permission, by the new Secretary of Defense, to express thinly veiled contempt for the President's "thinking" about the war in Iraq. Colin Powell's appearance on Meet the Press may well have been another warning shot across his bow. The Republican Establishment is apparently comfortably in control of the Pentagon, with little concern for the kind of public disagreement that would have resulted in immediate "retirement" for dissenting service chiefs. The fact that some rational military analysis can now be spoken publicly is a huge step in the right direction. That the "Decider" has been constrained, at least to the extent that Secretary Gates can allow reasonable advice regarding the most important issue facing the US military to see the light of day, speaks to the fact that a major power shift is evident in Washington. Try not to get too queasy about the Constitutional implicatioins.
My guess would be that, with his public rejection of the ISG report, George Bush is pushing up against the Republican Establishment. This is not a rational step on his part, as his future as President depends upon maintaining, on a fundamental level, their good will. As the President's erratic behavior in the realm of national security increasingly places the nation at risk and threatens the popular perception enjoyed by the Republican Party in that policy area, his presidency becomes expendable.
Much like Nixon's Presidency, it is the President's own party that will have to decide if they can afford another two years of this kind of psychopathology in the White House. Grounds for impeachment have been discreetly left in place with the failure to amend FISA to retroactively protect the NSA wiretap program that the President so proudly acknowledged earlier this year. If George Bush insists on jeopardizing Republican political prospects with his psychotic handling of Iraq and national security issues generally, the Republican Establishment will ultimately have to make the call. With the current political climate and Democratic control of Congress, the President can be credibly threatened with Impeachment and Conviction by the very same people that awarded him the Presidency 6 years ago.
