Seems that quote has been attrributed to many people, from Churchill to W. Wilson to Disraeli, but actually was first recorded by François Guizot
The 2006 election was nothing more than a "throw the bums out" vote. It happened to the Democrats and it will happen again. Why? Because politicians and gov't can't grab their own asses with two hands. We MUST HAVE A VASTLY REDUCED GOV'T, FEWER REGULATIONS, FEWER LAWS AND MUCH LOWER TAXES. ONE OF YOU LIBERAL CRACK HEADS OUT THERE NAME A GOV'T PROGRAM GONE RIGHT! YOU CAN'T. REDUCE GOV'T BY VOTING OUT EVERYONE UNTIL THESE LACKEYS LISTEN TO US. NOW.
Good piece but what should be mentioned is that The Dem's, as a Congressional majority, should not be charged with developing percise foreign policy. The job of Congress is strict oversight.
To do more is to fall into the same trap
that Bush is in now. Misery loves company.
Percise foreign policy from the Dem side should be enunciated during the Presidential campaign from the candidates themselves. At that time the Dem's in congress
can line up as they may.
The first, and arguably most important, skill a politician learns is how to count. Nothing else matters if you don't have the votes. Votes that get you elected, votes that get legislation passed. Sidney displays an impressive ability to count.
In olden days the argument was that you did what you had to get the votes to get yourself elected so you could do the right thing once you were in power. Now, getting elected so you can do what you have to do stay in office (suck up to lobbyists for campaign dollars) is the typical political strategy. Doing the right thing has been lost from the equation. I know this sounds sappy but voters would respond to leadership, a politician who putting leading first ahead of counting. Old school rule:do the right thing and the votes will take care of themselves. sigh.....
Bush a spanish speaker? He struggles with English!
With a choice between Gitano and Fenella, the latter comes out on top any time.
Gitano simply repeats Leftist cant ad nauseam, rants on with barely disguised bigotry against anyone who isn't like him/her while decrying the intolerance of everyone else. In short: typical moonbattery.
Fenella simply states his/her case with simple clarity and cites facts that anyone who isn't blinded by hatred can see.
Many letters are about how the government has done nothing for the writers. The government is not supposed to do anything for you, except minimally. A safety net for those who can't work, law and order, protection against outside enemies, that's about all the government should do. Otherwise it's just a competition for who can squeeze the most out of other people's pockets. Yes, this way of doing things has disadvantages, but everything does. What the democrats want is what Europe has and things are not going so well there. All the government interference, all the cradle to grave, all the political correctness, has it made the muslims in France happy or even happier than minorities here? No. So why do liberals think such programs will work here?
When we talk about a good economy (which we have now) liberals say oh its not perfect, we still have to struggle, so that means the government should do more. Struggle is eternal. But our struggle is not the struggle of people in africa or north korea.
Why don't all the liberals get together and form a model community. Choose some poor people, give them an income of say $100,000 a year, and a house and free medical care and see how it works out. I know it won't work. I know that within a month, the recipients will be angry because they're getting hondas instead of BMWs. That's human nature. But why don't you liberals find out about it?
"Unpopular as Bush may be today, he has been the most accessible Republican to Hispanics ever, a Spanish speaker from a state with a large Hispanic population. "
Have you ever heard George W Bush "speak" Spanish? Puh-leeze. He knows a few words, which he mangles as badly as he mangles English. Only he at least understands English.
This "George Bush speaks Spanish" crap is just that - Rovian crap. He has maybe a 10th grade grasp of the language at most. That isn't "speaking Spanish" any more than a 10th grade student of Latin can converse with Julius Caesar.
Oh puleeezzzz Finella..you went to a "red" state and had turkey and met some folks who just didnt like the war but are still against all those evil "liberals" who just want to tax you more and give it to "them"...you know who I mean. They aint us. They look funny and dont speak no English well or they have that pigmentation issue. Finella sees the long march toward a pure white Republican party taking the flag in hand and routing the country of "them" and their "liberal" socialist, communists supporters uninterrupted save for a brief bubble popping due to the ongoing Bush debacle where stupidity, arrogance, and ignorance just dont fully do the man justice. One can only hope that blame will be assigned and punishment meted by somebody sometime somewhere, but hope of course is generally an illusion, but the judgment of history aint even gonna cut it. I bet you a Krispy Kreme that Finella went south for the turkey, or maybe they had red beans and rice, to a place and time where no change came, has come, or will come unless imposed by superior force from outside, where all the women are virgin until marriage, all the folks are god-fearing, no beer is sold on Sunday, no queers exist much less can get married, and where we'd all have had a lot less trouble if Strom had been elected. The "robbery' darling, the trillion dollar buggery of the American middle class aint been handled by liberal or socialists. The emasculation of the Bill of Rights, the forfeiture of Congressional duty to debate and declare war, the selling of America to lobbyists and business interests, the pandering to the religious whackjobs most of whom say y'all, a war based on lies, distortion, and craven and willful ignorance which sprang from the most horrible devils of our nature, emanated from the febrile, fertile, fetid wascally innards of one party, abetted by the panderers thirsting for national office or to stay in office. As far as the one big issue that all the folks you ate turkey, or whatever, maybe roadkill, with you say caused them to vote for the acursed Dems, as we say in the south, even a blind hog can find an acorn once in a while.
