How can it not be when the Republicans aren't willing to honor the constitution and the democrats are afraid of doing anything at all.

If your representative is Republican, vote Democratic, if your representative is Democratic vote Republican. They're all to blame.

We (the world) can't afford another 2 1/2 years of this rubish.

Sid Blumenthal answered my question about the USA's official non response to the bloodletting in Lebanon. It seems unconscionable to allow this rabid warmongering to go on, and now I know why Bush and Co. would do it. It's a case of "let's you and him fight". And, assuming Israel prevails (a tortured bit of optimism), it would solve our Iran problem, and maybe our Iraq problem. A "new Middle East" would look like this: Israel destroying its enemies entirely. Sounds great. We should let 'em do that and help them if we can. This is a scenario only a neoconservative would love. We don't have to be "interventionist". Our scary new best friends can do it for us and we don't have to waste time with such trifles as "diplomacy." As I said, only a neoconservative would love this scenario. Or a Klingon. You can almost hear them salivating with bloodlust and saying "It will be glorious!" as they board their Birds of Prey.

My God. Everytime I think this administration has sunk to its lowest depths, it shows me that for these people, there is no floor. I have an awful feeling about this. It's already ugly, and unless cooler heads prevail fast, it's going to get a whole lot worse. Worse yet for George Bush who, it seems to me, is quickly running out of the rope he needs to entirely hang his presidency.

I take back what I said about the Klingons. At least they have the balls to actually fight a war, unlike these petty thugs who would raher watch people die and two nations destroy each other to cover up their own colossal failure. The Kilingons would find no "honor" in this. Hopefully I'm making sense here. It's awfully hard to get inside the minds of madmen. You risk going a little crazy yourself.

What is sad is that the domestic press either has its head in the sand or up its ass.

Listening to the BBC and interviews with diplomats and politicos from all stripes and it become painfully apparent that "Condi" is considered to be the "weakest" Secretary of State in 50 years. Not surprising since she is a pawn and player in an administration whose foreign policy initiatives have been lacking pre 9-11.

And with the death of 3 UN (the 4th missing and presumably blown to pieces) by Israeli air strikes and then the Israeli, oops we didn't know they were there despite being forewarned and cautioned during the day to cease bombing a known UN observation site that has been on that spot for over 20 years, is painted white with big letters saying U.N., “oh were sorry.... it was a mistake.”

Are you kidding me? It was obvious as a vehicle to show Israeli domination and arrogance towards world opinion, sans U.S.

The Neo-cons, and by the way con in this case should be translated hence as not being 'conservative' but as in confidence, as in con men, are using this as their vehicle for their apocalyptic world view of the end of days. As each day drags on I become further shocked that what is really driving US policy and its lack is right wing Christian fanaticism that sees unrest as the harbinger of the second coming and feeding this is another group of radical Islamicists thinking the same end days scenario with neither side realizing that they are two sides of a discredited and immoral human view.

It almost makes me wish for a ‘second coming’ just to clean the damn slate but realizing that is a pipe dream I would be satisfied for a first coming of rationality; sadly I will have to settle for most likely the same insanity for the remainder of my life. But then I never expected the wall to come down in Berlin so I will retain some small hope of faith in being surprised. But I won’t hold my breath.

I agree with Independant. While Klingons value strength and aggressiveness, accuracy and straightforwardness are also ideals of Klingon behavior. The cabal in power clearly lack both of these. And there is no tolerance for those who send others out to fight wars they are not willing to fight themselves. This entire administration would be spaced immediately so as to not waste air and food.

With all due respect to Sidney Blumenthal's, as usual, brilliant and well written analysis, a somewhat more perhaps cynical but hardly unjustified, reaction to Condi's playing at diplomat in the MidEast:

She is engaging in the customary Bush administration

P R dog and pony show when they cannot respond constructively to a politically damaging situation. And in the Cheney/Bush world everything is political.

First, they "recharacterize" the situation; i.e., present the big lie that the "insurgent" attacks and all the bloodletting in Iraq is the work of minority "death squads". That puts to rest the notion that it is a civil war. They also feel that the bloody Israel/Hezbollah conflict promotes their notion that elimination of "those terrorists" will result in Cheney/Rumsfeld/neocon style democracy, dominated by USA influence.

Next, lots of slogans: Directly, it would appear, from the desk of Karl Rove: " A Sustainable Cease Fire", " Birth Pains Of a Fledgling Democracy", " A New MidEast", a new "Domino" theory in the making, and you may be sure that more such manure is on the way. Lots of words to avoid offering any real solutions because they haven't any - - nor wish to calm down the MidEast situation because they are deluded in thinking that it somehow works in their favor, or more likely, they are simply bereft of any intelligence in dealing with a desperate horror of their own making.

And so we have Condi, the incompetent, overdressed, showgal doing in the MidEast conferences what she has been trained to do by the Bush administration - - as she has been doing all along since was included in their cabal as their token, high level, Afro-American heroine. She's been an abject failure as Security Advisor and is now even worse as Secretary of State because her "work" has all been window dressing. Her failure of knowledge of the MidEast is astounding and her eagernes to lie, obfuscate, and playact for her bosses with such cynicism is a disgrace and tragedy for America and the world.
