    "If serious dem candidates were to 'take a stand' it might well scare off those idiot swing voters who are the only chance dems have to take back Congress and the presidency."

    Real leadership isn't taking polls and contorting yourself into what you think people want. Real leadership involves stating your own beliefs and working to convince people that you're right. As George Lakoff might say, it's about reframing the debate. Or, as someone on the West Wing once said, you don't want to be like the French radical who says, "I must find out where my people are going so I can lead them."
