The Madness of King George
Brilliant! Once again, Sidney Blumenthal has written a masterpiece of analysis and insight....concisely....cogently...straight to the point. You know the measure of these men, sir!
Having correctly outlined EXACTLY the means (dirty, corrupt) by which Karl Rove will pursue winning the next elections (excluding, though, the important DIEBOLD factor), Mr. Blumenthal exposes the true lengths to which these so-called "Christian" men will stoop to retain their clutches on Absolute Power.
That this tiny Texan who had the "courage" to fly in ...in an official flight suit...onto an aircraft carrier...despite having used his father's (the one with a small "f") influence to by-pass thousands ahead of him into the SAFETY of the Air National Guard (coward)....and THEN go AWOL ...in gratitude...now imagines himself to be in the leagues not only of Winston Churchill or Abraham Lincoln (!!!) ...but also as someone LED BY GOD to do what he has done and plans to do more of...shows the sickness and delusion of a dry drunk, sadly, who has killed and maimed far too many of our precious young people...and hundreds of thousands of Iraqis and their families. He is a war criminal, hardly some wise, saintly leader. Impeachment is too good for him. He should answer at The Hague. ....especially as he plots his place in history by bombing Iran and "leading" us into World War III and certain destructionand dissolution of this precious country. HE is our very own Weapon of Mass Destruction.
God Help Us.
Please keep writing, Mr. Blumenthal. You're capturing history in an important way. You help us *see*...and understand. Tell the world!

United States of WalMart
Anybody ever read "Snowcrash" by Neal Stephenson? The world is ever nearing that prophecy...
When social security was designed, the reason it made so much more sense to have socialized benefits programs had to do with economies of scale. No private company could have provided the services the government could. Well, I mean the Unites States of America more than any company could hope to. Had better credit than companies, had more power. We didn't have any Halliburton, Microsoft, WalMart, McDonalds, or Starbucks.
Now we do. No one will make this point, because it draws attention to the frightening fact that these companies ARE more powerful, capable, and efficient than our goverment. That framing might make your average blue collar worker stop an think for a minute.
I wonder if anyone would argue that the super corporations of the World are NOT more powerful than any government. I suppose you could argue that governments have bombs...but I would argue that the corporations own the politicians...so they pretty much have control over the bombs.
So let's vote for Democrats! Yay! They aren't BOUGHT AND PAID FOR.
We'll just keep our fingers crossed.

Why am I paying Karl Rove
Does it bother anyone else that we are paying Karl Rove's salary to strategize the Republican campaigns? I understand that we have to pay current congressmen and even the president while they campaign because supposedly they are also carrying out the business of the country. But, how can we allow our tax dollars to pay someone who is doing no work toward the business of the country. If all Karl Rove is going to do is work to get more Republicans elected he should be paid from Republican Committee or campaign coffers not from my tax dollars.

All Will Soon See
I loved the ending line of this article; "such is the passion of George W. Bush". I just couldn't help thinking, "It's more like the Madness of King George". I try not to indulge my glee over this crumbling empire too much. The truth is, even with 1000 days left in his term, he and his minions could do a lot of damage and he already has. The value of Democrats taking back one or both houses is that there would finally be the check on the president's power that the Constitution requires, and that most small government conservatives would agree with. That check would include investigations of various abuses of power by the Executive Branch.
Assuming the current scandals don't sink these guys first, beginning in 2007 we will see this merry band of thugs reined in and possibly dismantled by the findings of those Democrat-led probes. We must assume there will still be this endless nonsense in Iraq because while Democrats are calling for at least "redeployment" of troops, this president would rather see the USA boil in oil before letting that happen, no matter what new puppet government gets installed there. The only way to stop this madness is to put the White House on notice that they are not above the law. With any luck, that may happen before the midterm elections when Karl Rove faces his day of reckoning and the Abramoff scandals threaten enough Republicans in Congress that the landscape is altered sooner by their resignations.
So, in all, cautious optimism and reason for hope. But, a sobering reminder that a whole lot can happen in six months, or 1,000 days for that matter.
Keep the faith.

Higher Authority
Mr. Blumenthal's analysis is, as always, spot on... for the most part. The one area I quibble with is the suggestion that Mr. Bush actually believes in, tries to follow or relies on a higher authority. Such claims play well to his base but duping church-goers with easy rhetoric does not make him a Christian. He is revealed by his actions and those actions loudly proclaim that he is no follower of Jesus Christ.

Bush and Churchill
Like Bush, Churchill also founded an artificial government in Iraq and had trouble with an Iraqi insurgency.
In fact, the current mess in Iraq is partially Churchill's fault, since he was involved in the formation of Iraq.

Completely agree with Rocky and Candace Wood's last letters
I also find it detestable to be forced to pay for Karl Rove. During the 2000 elections, he hired rent-a-rioters to yell "stop the recount now! stop the recount now!" at the counting stations in Florida, despite the fact that having votes counted is, last time I looked, an essential second half of the voting process. That we should have to pay someone like this for thinking up more ways to undermine our democratic process is, well... I wonder sometimes whether it's an indictment of democracy.
Also agree that, though I like all the rest of Sid Blumenthal's analysis and opinions, it's odd to think that such a dishonest, pandering president as this one should suddenly grow fervent belief when it comes to the subject of religion. If most of the rest of what he says is a snow job to smooth his political ambitions, why should his religion be any different?
