  • Blessed Bubble

Your article points out how utterly hopeless it is to expect dubya to

gain any realism about the consequences of ALL the flamboyant, macho,

arrogant, mistakes or constitutional/international crimes committed in our name. I am 80 and have never experienced the shame I now have for my country. That said, I am a realistic patriot, I am well aware of the

horrible history our nation has perpetrated on Native Americans, Black,

Latinos, women, gays, and now, Arabs/Islamists. I became involved in the civil rights protests during the late sixties and early seventies.

I even went to Milwaukee to march with Father Groppi; one of my cherished memories. However, the despicable acts today in the 21st century, are unforgiveable in my opinion. The fear, I have, is the Bush

family has so much power dumbya and cronies will never have to pay the

piper(legal). To me, this is where the comparison to the mafia ends.

These loyalists, to the Bush family and others, will rise up to protect him and if, in January 2009, there are any fellow cabalists, who are under indictment or threat of, dumbya will pardon all before he leaves office. Have we witnessed this before? I have to include this thought before I close Mr. Blumenthal, I have NO respect for Bill or Hillary Clinton today. I am so disappointed and disgusted with both of them.

They are now part and parcel of the Bush cabal for all to see and consequently, belong to the upper one percent bubble...too bad.

Now I wonder, was I a dupe for believing in them? Won't be the first time as most of us know. What a disappointment again!

    Thanks,

  • Britain Never Stood Alone Against The Nazis

With all due respect to Sidney Blumenthal, who I greatly admire, he errs greatly in stating that in 1941 "Britain stood alone against the Nazis."

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Canada declared war on Nazi Germany on September 10, 1939, and became the armory of the Commonwealth Allied nations allied with Britain. By the end of the war, Canada had fielded the fourth largest armed forces in the world, despite being a small, relatively poor country at the time, putting 1.5 million men under arms in Europe.

Canada also provided more than half of the "Aces" that successfully beat the Nazis in the crucial Battle of Britain over England's skies, preceeding America's entry into the war. Without Canada's support, Britain would almost certainly have been lost to the Nazis. They were on rations and their cities firebombed on a daily basis.

But Britain never stood alone against Hitler. Canada immediately recognized the danger and stood by her side, as did other Commonwealth nations. They provided all of the resources, men and materiel that helped that country stave off the Nazis until America finally threw her weight in three years later with the other democracies fighting in Europe. Together we all won.

  • Churchillian?

Sorry, nortcliff, the "troops" deployed by Churchill at Tonypandy were unarmed Metropolitan Police, and no miners were killed - indeed, no guns were fired.

Bush and his cronies/handlers are responsible for enough pain, suffering, and unconstitutional, illegal acts on their own, without bringing the political lies of an earlier generation into it.

  • Martyr or ***k-up?

Blumenthal gives Bush too much credit. Bush doesn't care that he's a ***k-up. He's been one his whole life and because of that, he doesn't have the bottom line ego preservation that any other person of just moderate talent and brains would have about performing so abysmally.

  • When you run out of things to fuck up, tell them God sent you.

We are now lead by President Elmer Gangtry.

  • Inarguable?

    Sidney B. writes

"I base a lot of my foreign policy decisions on some things that I think are true. One, I believe there's an Almighty." This is one Bush doctrine that is inarguable.

Inarguable? Says who? Why not grant every other claim he makes if you're granting that one?

  • perception trumps reality

    Folks-

The harsh reality of our nation and world is that reality really doesn't matter that much. The reality is the Republican party spends like a drunken sailor, the perception is that it is "conservative" And on and on.

So, the fact that liberals have the "truth" sadly doesn't really matter that much. The Bush folks have stacked the courts, the corporate friends have bought the press, and the DeLay folks have re-jiggered the voting districts.

What that means is this- UNLESS we all find and get behind clear messaging that the increasing DUMB and ignorant American voter can understand and get behind, and unless we find a leader who will not put Gay rights or some other side issue front a center, we will continue to LOSE. Lose elections, lose money, lose lives, lose rights....

    On and on.

What we all need is to be pragmatic about the FACT that we live in a BOUGHT world, and use the same tactics that the Rove's of the world use to MANIPULATE public opinion.

The truth just won't cut it. Being fair won't cut it. Being nice won't cut it.

We have to FIGHT. (And by the way, when I say fight I MEAN THEM NOT ME) Don't waste your typing telling me I'm an idiot. I'm not running for office. I may be an idiot- who cares!

THINK. Think and act carefully. Get behind a Dem that touts God and country and apple pie and HAS A BRAIN. They exist and they are the only ones who have a chance of leading us out of this quagmire.

  • "Thought Waves" Letter by s. dogood

Well spoken, perhaps, but if one is but unable to but view Blumenthal's writing with semi-cheeky, self-righteous sarcasm, it would be no wonder, after five plus years of this absurd nightmare, that you and your ilk have no idea of the endlessly valid causes of profound distaste for George W. Bush among the vast majority of the populace.

As alluded to earlier, combine the vapid mental faculty with the warped perception of a dry drunk and drug user, and you have George W. Bush, with his new addictions--fed to him by his cabal of syncophantic pushers/puppet masters--power and messianism. Three strikes, we're out.
