That's GM-speak for glorified plant babysitters.
GM could have eliminated those silly positions, along with the massive NASCAR and other racing budgets, and saved the taxpayers millions of dollars.
Oh and here's one for ya too: These guys make up to $100,000 in overtime. Do you really think they consider themselves to be blue collar workers? Hell, no. They live in the 'burbs, have super pick-ups, SUVs, RV's, take up to 6 weeks of paid vacation, have all holidays off, and are laying back waiting for that pension to kick in at age 55, complete with all medical paid too. Give up something? Oh, hell no. Not them.
Listening to the Marketing from GM and Ford, sounds a little like the sub-prime mortgages that were offered up.
Buy a car, lose your job during 2 years and we will pay up to 9 months at $500 -- plus take your first born ---- why not discount each car 4500 if they want to sell them that bad.
Everyone feels the pain of the under and unemployed, all right. That is why prices even for groceries and paper goods have gone up and the "poor" retail market is hurting -- have you seen what is being offered out there?? --- it isn't even worth it unless you take 40 +25 +20 off the prices. And, of course, that is on the mark up of 150 - 200 percent. Give us all a break.
The ones who suffer are the ones who paid the most -- it's about time, we start seeing some lower credit card rates, maybe even some split between savings interest and loan interest after all the unemployed are not benefiting by a 0% interest rate.
And, by-the-way, it was announced this past weekend that AIG is up for another 200+ in bonuses in the state of Connecticut -- any news worthy person picking up on this before it happens??
I would have liked to see a bailout of GM contingent on it retooling to rebuild the trolley lines it took out 60 years ago. It just seems so senseless to go on pretending we can drive our way to a sustainable future.
Southern non union jobs must be destroyed. Northern union jobs must be saved at all costs.
Anybody having trouble reproducing Roger Daltrey's scream on "Won't Get Fooled Again" should read this pathetic sell out of a speech. Meet the new boss. Same as the old boss.
