Did Bush's attorney general hide internal dissent over torture?

In a letter to the Department of Justice, Sens. Durbin and Whitehouse request an update on the status of the Office of Professional Responsibility's report on torture.

The letters thread is now closed.

Can't find it...

...musta been misfiled

...it went to cyber heaven

...the memo got shredded

...fell behind the file cabinet

...the computer crashed

...someone stole it

...the dog ate it

...never existed

...What's the matter? Don't you trust us?

Shocked! Shocked!

That a member of the Bush Administration blatantly lied!

The only question now is, "What are we going to do about it?"

Sad Day

It is a sad day for America indeed when most of the people in the entire world suspect the President of the United States and his administration of torture, of condoning torture, and of either directly conducting torture policies or else permitting people to be "rendered" over to other countries where it is extremely likely and known to be likely that they will be tortured...

... and nobody wants to know.

Or cares.

Or cares to know.

Or is willing to do anything about it.

So much for America's standard and the shining light on the hill. How do we have the audacity to subject others to truth at Nuremburg but don't have the courage or temerity to subject our own? How can America be taken seriously if it is unwilling to stand-up and be accountable by its own supposed standards?

If the truth is not investigated then people in need of justice will never have it. People in need of punishment will never receive it. And people in need of truth and enlightenment will never find their way, or see that beacon on the hill. If justice is not blind, then no true justice exists at all, and America is then just another petty tyranny who ignores any rules that are inconvenient for the moment.

For people to believe in America, they need to know the truth-- whatever it is-- and to understand and be reassured in the knowledge that there is justice for everyone, no matter how small or how tall. And for America to remain a standard-bearer for justice, it must demonstrate to the world that it will not tolerate injustice even at the very top.

It is important to know the truth. It is important that the allegations of crimes and misdeeds in the Bush administration be investigated and the facts placed on record for all to know. It is important for the pursuit of truth and justice.

And more to the point-- if there were no crimes and no mideeds, what have they got to hide? An investigation would reveal that as well.
