Obama's speech on race

Responding to the "divisive turn" the campaign has taken on racial issues, the candidate calls for Americans to "come together and say, 'Not this time.'"

In America, words speak louder than actions.

Who was that guy in Europe with the funny little mustache? I've seen films of his speeches, and boy, Obama is right up there with him, in terms of public speaking anyways.

i did read the text

i did read the text and obama gave us what he always gives us, vague promises of change that mean nothing.

no concrete economic plans or foreign policies. he has had months to come up with these but prefers to attack his fellow democrat instead.

Wow.

wow.

This is why Obama is great and should be president

He attacks this issue head-on, fearlessly, appropriately, and in a way that leaves no question as to where he stands and what he stands for.

Excellent!

*smacks head against the desk*

jeebus sonofloud...the reason why there wasn't any talk of his economic stimulus plan in this speech? BECAUSE HE'S BEEN HAMMERED THIS PAST WEEK ABOUT HIS PASTOR'S VIEWS ON RACE, AND NOT HIS ECONOMIC STIMULUS PACKAGE!

your obtuseness is actually quite stunning to behold.

Tuesday, March 18, 2008 11:00 AM

@sonofloud

I'd suggest visiting his website. He does have rather concrete plans and statements spelled out there.

On a speech like this, I'm not expecting detailed policy plans.

Edwards' supporters!

Write a letter to former senator Edwards here:

http://www.johnedwards.com/about/contact/form/

Tell him it's time we ended this frivolous race for the Democratic nominee! Let's put an end to this.

is your head that far up your ass? the topic of the speech today was race in america. when you go to a baseball game, do you complain that they're not playing hockey?

and if you want specific policies, i suggest you check out his web site and report back to us.

You continually reference Obama's attacks against HRC. Please list his attacks.

@manos99

I know that to Americans that are serious about who they vote for Empire isn't as high on the list as important wedge issues like race, religion, and gender.

I'll keep it up, because I don't care if it makes me look silly. Really, I don't. If I did I've an anonymous handle, like you.

I'll keep stirring shit by pointing out how none of the candidates are going to fundamentally change our flawed and failed imperial foreign policy or stop our CIA from covertly Spreading Democracy, and you keep ignoring reality and the real truth about our foreign policy over the last 60 years, just like the rest of America. Deal?

Somebody asked what CFR stands for?

I think it stands for Kentucky Fried Republican. You know. Chris's crew.

@NCSteve -WHERE IS CLINTON'S FREE SPEECH?

So where is it? Where is Clinton's equal opportunity? Where does she get the same treatment, the same air time, and the same consideration? The same blessings of the media?

WHERE IS HER FREE SPEECH?

God forbid if this had been Clinton. You would be screaming your head off that it wasn't fair!!

Obama gets his speech printed out here in full and everywhere else. He gets to put all of his pretty words out there for the world to see and to read. But God forbid there should ever be something printed that is in anyway positive toward her or even objective, and you all scream that they're a Clinton shill or racist. God forbid that Clinton should get the same treatment and have her speeches printed anywhere on some main page! You would be shouting unfair at the top of your lungs.

Where is her speech? Or one of hers? Nowhere!

If ever there were a huge glaring example of the free fucking ride that Obama gets from the press at the expense of Clinton, this is it. This speech is it on every goddamn station and having it written everywhere. This is it!

What exactly gives Obama the right to it? What?

WHERE IS CLINTON'S FREE SPEECH?

Council on Foreign Relations... Or COuntry Fried Rock.

Ideas Matter

I can not remember the last time that a politician actually respected the complexity of an issue or the intelligence of his listeners as much as in this speech.

Words themselves may not pave streets or build schools, but as the DNA of Ideas, it turns out that they do have a critical role to play.

Tuesday, March 18, 2008 11:10 AM

@tbrandel

That wasn't very delicate. A LOT of very intelligent, highly educated (these are not always synonymous) people support Hillary Clinton wholeheartedly. If Obama loses, it isn't going to be because of "stupid" people. It will be because the right-wing took advantage of his weaknesses to convince people, smart and otherwise, not to vote for him.

Tuesday, March 18, 2008 11:12 AM

WOW!

After the Constitutional convention, a woman asked Benjamin Franklin what sort of government they had created. He replied, "A republic, Madame, if you can keep it." And I say, Obama will be our next President -- IF we can live up to his ideals.

I know that man with the funny little moustache you're talking about, Charlie Chaplain! Yeah, he was an even funnier little ass-hat than you'll probably ever become.

@ConservativeSlayer

CFR is the Council on Foreign Relations, is an old liberal propaganda outfit created by David Rockefeller in 1920, extremely powerful, and secretive, just like all the other perverted institutions of the elites. It is part of a large number of conspriacy/NWO theories and publishes Foreign Affairs, an Establishment Policy Rag. If you want to be President, you need the approval of the CFR. Clinton, McCain, Edwards, Obama, Biden, Guiliani, Thompson, they are all members. Huckster's Foreign Policy adviser was president of the CFR iirc. The only ones that weren't are the "gadflys" like Paul and Kucinich. It is the heart of the establishment. Just look at the list of companies and members, all the neolibs and neocons are there.

Nouri al-Maliki flew in and gave a speech there that was closed to the public. Cheney was a Director, but didn't mention that while campaigning, chuckle chuckle...

But no, there is no agenda there or anything, things like the EU just spring up from nowheresville....

For more than a century ideological extremists at either end of the political spectrum have seized upon well-publicized incidents ... to attack the Rockefeller family for the inordinate influence they claim we wield over American political and economic institutions. Some even believe we are part of a secret cabal working against the best interests of the United States, characterizing my family and me as 'internationalists' and of conspiring with others around the world to build a more integrated global political and economic structure - one world, if you will. If that's the charge, I stand guilty, and I am proud of it.
