Valerie Plame, covert after all

Though some on the right have denied it, Plame was covert when she was exposed by columnist Robert Novak. Read the document that proves it.

The letters thread is now closed.

Well, the gun smokes after all.

Thank goodness something work in thiscountry. The truth at last. I hope every member of the White House Press Corps, as well as every jounalist covering the 08 election, brings this document up at every opportunity. I doubt we'll get Justice, but at least the electorate will be informed.

Anyone want to start a pool on when LIbby gets his Medal of Fredom?

Of course

Well, of course she was covert, officially. I don’t think that’s the point her detractors were trying to make. She was officially “covert,” but how covert could she have been, plastering herself all over Vanity Fair six months after Novak’s column?

I happen to disagree with this logic—if the CIA officially declares someone covert, you go along with it even if you personally think, “well, everyone knows.” To not do so would be arrogant, dangerous and potentially treasonous. And the Bush Administration already has the nasty habit of classifying and declassifying information for political purposes, so playing fast and loose with the definition of “covert” is especially grotesque.

Where's Fitzgerald?

I also hope every journalist shines a light on this information. I would like them to include what Salon left out.

Karl Rove did not leak Plame's name to Novak (as was widely, falsely speculated).

Richard Armitage leaked Plame's name to Novak.

When is Fitzgerald going to prosecute Armitage?

Wasn't that the crime that Fitzgerald was hired to investigate?

Hint

Mizbinkley wrote: "She was officially 'covert,' but how covert could she have been, plastering herself all over Vanity Fair six months after Novak’s column?"

Hint: it was six months after her cover had been blown. Get it?

To "Of Course"

mizbinkley,

No, that is not true, Ms. Plame's detractors, among them Michelle Malkin, Victoria Toensing, and others made the claim that she wasn't covert.

What kind of twisted logic are you employing by stating "but how covert could she have been, plastering herself all over Vanity Fair six months after Novak’s column?"

It doesn't matter if she "plastered herself all over Vanity Fair" the DAY AFTER her cover was blown, her identity was disclosed in the major media before she did the Vanity Fair article, that doesn't mean she was not covert nor does her voluntary exposure in any way decrease the legitimacy of her former status as a covert agent.

Another Wrong Wing concern troll on Salon or just someone deficient in critical thinking? Which are you, I guess if I looked at your other comments I would be able to tell, but your stunning grasp of chronological facts and their relation to cause and effect discourages me from making the effort.

Spy series on BBC

I want to see Valery Plame on an American version of the Spy series on BBC:

to NotOrbitBoy

There are some things you left out too. Or maybe didn't know.

"Karl Rove did not leak Plame's name to Novak (as was widely, falsely speculated)."

"Falsely" implies those speculating knew their speculation was false, or at least had no reason for believing it. Probably someone somewhere did assert they knew Rove leaked when they couldn't, but "speculation" was quite reasonable and, as it turned out, not far off the mark. He did confirm for Novak that she was a CIA employee, though it's not proven he knew she was covert. Maybe Libby will finally tell the truth or Wilson's lawsuit will find the evidence.

"Richard Armitage leaked Plame's name to Novak.

When is Fitzgerald going to prosecute Armitage?"

It's not enough to leak an agent's identity. You have to know she's covert. Though Armitage was careless at least, it's not proven he knew. Then again, he's a defendant in the lawsuit too.

"Wasn't that the crime that Fitzgerald was hired to investigate?"

Fitzgerald was brought in when the FBI said Libby was lying to them, and was indeed what Fitzgerald was investigating. Libby still hasn't told what he knows, so presumably the truth is bad for somebody. My guess is "somebody" is Cheney.

Idiots and Incompetence!

So she was classified until she was de-classified and then she was re-classified until she was de-classified for the purpose of de-classifying the classified classification of re-classified previously de-classified....sigh.

I give up. My head hurts.

What a complete and utter CLUSTER-FUCK!!

With this much utter incompetence and sheer stupidity, I'd resign too.

We saw it here first, but...

...How much does anyone here want to bet that this unfortunately will be the last we see this acknowledged in any media forum? Let's face it. FOXNEWS isn't going lead off "Bullshit from Britt Hume Hour" with him declaring "Hey, we were just proven completely wrong and we really owe Mrs. Plame-Wilson and the nation she so bravely served an apology for our making such a prolonged and disgraceful effort over the last several years to discredit her service and tarnish her name."

No, it will be ignored not only by FOX but by the rest of the "Liberal Media" in favor of "Fred Thompson is just too much like Ronald Reagan for American voters not to be convinced to elect him instead of..."

This is basically going to be the tree falling in the forest with nobody there to hear it.

I got it

mizbinkley, my sarcasm detector works just fine.

There sure seem to be a lot of humorectomy survivors around here; perhaps TableTalk should start a support thread.

Wow, I read your post and the "I LOVE BUSH OH YES I DO" one that followed it. You are the victim of a literary drive-by shooting. Get thee to a hospital! :)

Silliest issue

This is the silliest issue to be bandied about in Washington in so long. Valerie Plame was under cover?? She was undercover until ANYONE besides the CIA and Valerie Plame knew she was undercover. How many White House staffers knew she was under cover?? The only people who blew her cover were CIA or maybe Valerie herself. If the media finally got wind of it, they were not the first ones to know. This lady commuted to CIA headquarters everyday, that too blew her cover. Don't you think the KGB and other intelligence services watch to see who commutes to CIA everyday? Too bad Valerie wasn't wearing a false nose and a wig on that daily commute. This is just more CIA bungling.
