Get O'R off the air

How much more hate spewing and ignorance-baiting do networks need to engage in for ratings? Violence is violence, against ANYONE.

Hate-mongers have to get off the air. You can say anything, express any personal view, if you make it clear that no one should take you more seriously than you deserve. But the language used by some of today's TV and radio hosts is coercive. They are educated people with plenty of broadcast experience. They know the effect of their words, and they purposely make less informed viewers and listeners angry. Controversy gets attention, so they invent controversy.

Now we can see the end result.

Jail time

I believe Eric Holder needs to be hauling Bill in as a co-conspirator.

Bill O'Reilly isn't going anywhere.

Maybe he'll address this tomorrow, but won't own up to any personal accountability and he'll remain right where he is on Fox Noise. Just like the rest of them. Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld. They all do outrageous, disgusting things, it's tossed around in the press, Olbermann does his special comments, and at the end of the day nothing happens. On to the next right-wing outrage via Rush, Hannity, Michelle Bachman, etc.

Sunday, May 31, 2009 09:37 PM

Wait a Sec....

Bill O'Reilly did NOTHING wrong in exposing Dr. Tiller on his show. To even suggest that he is in part responsible for murder is LUDICROUS! The man who killed Tiller would have commited a heinous act against pro-abortioners regardless!

By saying O'Reilly helped set up Tiller's murder, is giving O'Reilly some pretty serious credit. He must be a pretty bad threat to you guys if you think he can send messages to kill by reporting.

And that's just it - O'Reilly reported. Tiller DID perform an abortion on an underage woman, Tiller DID take lives of thousands of babies who could had survived outside the womb, he literally was a "baby" killer.

Now I'm not saying his murder is justified. The crimes men commit will not be judged by us. But please stop acting like because Tiller was murdered that this makes him innocent and respectable and a noble man. You can't honestly say that.

O'Reilly was right on. Come on people, wise up.

weak democracy and the press

At some point, as a civilized society, we must demand an end to the constant barrage of hostile, antagonistic, and debased rhetoric from right wing talk radio and cable pundits. These highly paid voices scapegoat minorities, purposely misinform the public, and exploit ignorance and anger. Instead of adding value to society, they are a constant corrosive that further weakens a deeply damaged and fragile democracy.

Bill O’Reilly earns millions of dollars misinforming the public to advance a corporate agenda and maximize profits for the richest .05 percent of Americans, and Fox News is essentially an adjunct of the Republican Party. This isn’t a free press nor is it what our founding fathers had in mind when they added a free press to the First Amendment. Fox and the vitriolic right wing pundits are the antithesis of a free press because they seek control of the market to annihilate all other voices. The message is controlled and intended to incite. It is the worst form of propaganda that manipulates the public with lies.

A democracy can only function when the public is informed and educated. The press has an obligation to serve the public in an effort to protect democracy. It is time to demand reform and regulation to put an end to concentrated corporate media ownership. The license to broadcast is paid for by the American taxpayers. Our tax dollars subsidize Fox news and talk radio. This is our media and our democracy. We have the right to demand reform.

What type of society do we want?

Tiller Child Killer

I'm against the death penalty, in theory. But, you can always show me a case where I'd have no objection. I won't shed a tear for the good doctor. Any man that can abort a 28 week old fetus, and have the moxie to offer funeral services for the murdered child, won't elicit sympathy for me.

Sunday, May 31, 2009 09:45 PM

Will no one rid me of this turbulent doctor?

Henry II had his legalistic defenses, too.

Sunday, May 31, 2009 09:47 PM

Ah yes..

..that was from "Becket."

So called pro-life are really pro-death

In survey after survey, we see the so called pro-life folks are proud to being

pro-war

pro-torture

pro-death sentence

anti-taxes

anti-social services

anti-birth control

pro-gun

And before you go off and say I am pro-life, but I don't support the list above, stop and think -- that may be true for you personally -- but it is not true for the majority of pro-life folks --- and the rest of us are tired of this group. So keep in mind when you in good faith following your believes and giving money to these groups, they are going to turn around and use that money for hate crimes, and to support anti-life polices. We closed down the Muslim charities, that folks gave money to - to feed the poor, because some of the money might have been used by hamas or other groups.... so why are we not shutting down these charities that do use their money to put up websites targeting these doctors and their families and kids? Terrorist is a terrorist, and people who give money to these groups are also terrorist, even if they never lift a gun.

Hmm...yes, that's bad, but at least O'Reilly didn't claim to be an empathetic Latina!

Let's see O'Reilly wriggle out of this one.

Sunday, May 31, 2009 10:27 PM

not a single "pro-lifer" here ...

Has the first clue about what Tiller did. "Baby killer." Read the cases, idiots. I know wingnuts break out in hives when in contact with facts, but take the risk.

Sunday, May 31, 2009 10:29 PM

Appropriate description by OReilly

Dr. Tiller is one of only three "Doctors" in the country who performed abortions after 21 weeks. These were viable babies. Why then, should he not be called out for the monster that he is. Tiller, after all, was a baby killer.

Should we all be afraid to point out horrendous behavior because some crazy guy might then shoot them? Of course not. Stop trying to blame Bill O Reilly for the actions of this murderer.

Sunday, May 31, 2009 10:33 PM

A simple question for the O'Reilly apologists...

How are O'Reilly's actions different from a radical mullah inciting (but not directing) his followers to commit acts of murder. That has happened and is equally disgusting and criminal.

O'Reilly is the first to condemn that type of incitement. And yet when he does it, it's called "freedom of speech".

The radical mullah's are preaching to far fewer people - generally hundreds or thousands. When O'Reilly does it, there are millions - so the opportunity to generate extremism and the potential for violence is greater. Also, O'Reilly's incitement in this case is over something that is legal, where as the radical mullah's have vastly more extreme instances of real and perceived injustices.

There lies the real danger of inciting hatred, murder and terrorism. The world is dangerous enough, but when radicals with an audience and followers in the millions incite violence, it becomes a much more dangerous place.
