O'Reilly's campaign against murdered doctor

The Fox News star had compared Tiller to a Nazi, called him a "baby killer," and warned of "Judgment Day"

The letters thread is now closed.

@hunter1941

Late term abortions are not generally allowed for babies that are healthy unless the mothers health is so bad that she is likely to die and cannot survive either an early delivery or c-section. If the baby is so unhealthy that it will die, then an abortion might save the mother the pain of carrying a dying baby for weeks or months. My mother had a baby that was born with half of a brain. He lived a day. He never had a chance. She found out weeks before she delivered and chose to carry to term so that his organs could be used to try to save another baby that needed a transplant. This was all before abortion was legal. I know how it effected her, because I remember how sad she used to get at the anniversaries of his birth. I would never ask a woman to go through that. Women simply don't walk into an abortion clinic at 7-8 months gestation and say "I've changed my mind - kill it". It's an agonizing situation, and Tiller was a hero for recognizing that and taking the risks he took to help women who were in this position.

Dr. Tillers killer is the only one to blame

I do not condone killing of any kind and think that the person who killed Dr. Tiller is abhorant to all in the prolife movement. However, to equate O'Reilly's campaign against late term abortion, which for most of Americans is baby killing, to a tacit wink towards the killer is such a cheap shot. We in America should be able to express outrage about things, without a sloppy journalist such as yourself coming out and immediately blaming someone. Then only one to blame is the killer. Shame on you for using this tragedy for some sort of political hack piece

If you make a living killing third-trimester babies

there might be a chance someone will kill you.

150 million pro-lifers.

If one-millionth of one percent of that population want you dead and have the means to do it, that's:

150 people trying to kill you.

What does this have to do with Bill O'Reilly and the press? Perhaps they should ignore controversial topics? Yeah, right. Well I guess O'Reilly was right about the judgment day - hey, maybe he just looked at the math.

Thanks for putting this story front and center

Salon: Thanks for putting this story front and center. A bit of news has come out that the suspect was arrested and jailed a few years ago and was carrying explosives and other terrorist tools. He was released before fully serving his sentence. Now...if this had been one of the 9/11 terrorists or the Oklahoma city bomber, you'd never hear the end of it if he was released. I have heard commentators say that we have to delicate because this is a divisive issue (as if it is offensive to strongly be for women's reproductive rights), but this is terrorism, not a hate crime, not a regular crime, and the full extent of the law should be enforced. Let's not dance around afraid to label it terrorism, because if it is not swiftly dealt, you can imagine that the crazies will grow and believe terrorism is a winning strategy.

Who are O'Reilly's sponsers?

If anyone knows, let me know so write to them and tell them I'm done doing business with them. Even though I'm posting from Canada, we've got subsidiaries of a lot of US companies up here.

This guy is hate monger, along the lines of Julius Streicher.

If a muslim cleric went off about "murderous American politicians" and a muslim from the cleric's mosque murdered a public figure, how long would it be before Bill was calling for a public excecution?

right wing Freeper Christian types

The people who are crowing and celebrating this are really disgusting. Whenever one of them sneers at Islam as the religion of peace I will always think of this. Christians at their worst.

Billo's. . .

got blood on his hands.

North of the 49th

If this act had been committed my an American Muslim or any sundry non-Christian you'd have heard a hue and cry from conservative corners for the mass deportation of American Muslims: Arabs, Indians, Pakistanis, Iranians, any swarthy non-Christian minority they could get their mitts on to make into an ugly scapegoat.

@xychro and tortured nutter logic

What does this have to do with Bill O'Reilly and the press? Perhaps they should ignore controversial topics? Yeah, right. Well I guess O'Reilly was right about the judgment day - hey, maybe he just looked at the math.

Your half cocked scenario is idiotic, to put it mildly. How would your hypothetical population of 150 million pro-lifers even be aware of this doctor in Kansas were it not for hate mongers with large audiences like Bill O'Really? Apparently this doctor was pretty well known - I had never heard of him until today - but then, I don't watch the drivel that Faux News and O'Really air on a daily basis, nor do I listen to the fat drug addicted hypocrite on the radio.

By the way, can you cite any statistics on the late term abortions that Tiller actually performed (off hand, preferably - even children can use 'the Google') or are you simply going off the lies and smears coming out of the wingnut propaganda machine?

Sunday, May 31, 2009 09:13 PM

@Bill O'Really's sock puppet

Then only one to blame is the killer. Shame on you for using this tragedy for some sort of political hack piece

Words of wisdom from a right wing sage. Never mind the fact that the right wing and neocons basically invented this strategy, and as a result are apparently hypersensitive to its propagation. Too bad that in this case, it's simply not correct.

I mean, far be it for the right in this country to turn tragedy to political gain. Gee - I can't think of a single example of that ever happening. /sarcasm

Not Surprised

No one should be surprised at O'Reilly's idiotic and hateful campaign and lack of sensitivity. For example, he defamed the US Army when he stated that our soldiers had massacred German troops in World War II. To this day and as far as I know, he has not apologized or recanted his story even though he's been advised of his erroneous statement.

O'Reilly is the typical bully and typical Republican: will preach about personal responsibility but don't ask me take mine.
