O'Reilly's campaign against murdered doctor

The Fox News star had compared Tiller to a Nazi, called him a "baby killer," and warned of "Judgment Day"

The letters thread is now closed.

O'Reilly should be charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

There's rhetoric and there's rhetoric

"I can see, from the heated hatred of the Salon faithful in the letters posted in this thread, that if anyhting were to happen to Bill O'Reilly in the next several days, Salon could be responsible. If John Yoo or Jay Bybee were to be attacked by a deranged leftist radical, we'd have Glenn Greenwald to blame, wouldn't we?"

Gee, you're right. Any day now some crazed leftist radical is going to rise up and try to disbar Yoo and Bybee, or damand that O'Reilly show up in court!

It's Time to Bring This Monster to His Knees

The Southern Poverty Law Center used civil lawsuits quite effectively against racists who overtly or covertly supported the KKK and like organizations.

There is no reason not to do the same to these despicable "cheerleaders" like OReilly and Hannity. The level of proof is much lower in civil action, and the cost to Fox and its nest of vipers should be debilitating. Then the same should be done to any minister and/or church that preaches this hate. Strip non-profit status, seize all assets for a victim fund, and crush them financially.

2JKB

"By the way, ever heard of the Taliban. How about Al Quaeda in Iraq. They are the ones that kill women for leaving the house without their brother "

Indeed. THank goodness we live in a country where women can walk freely ... unless it is to a gyno clinic where abortions might be performed. THen, apparently, it is fair game to shoot them. Because that's being pro-life.

No campaign ,just speaking truth into CRAZINESS!

Where is the tolerance for people who disagree about the killing of innocent unborn HUMANS? I feel you have miscalculated the numbers of Americans who agree that Dr. Tiller was doing an unjust thing by not telling authorities about what happened to "children" that came to get help.

I feel Mr. O'Reilly did not insight or fuel any violence against Dr.Tiller, that your are claiming in your article. It was all through legal channels, if anything. YOU,Ms. Gabriel Winant are fueling hate for a man/large number of people that totally agree with Mr.O'Reilly. Tiller was a murderer, and a protector of predators.I can see the comparison with a Nazi. The killing of innocents for selfish reasons or for no real reason at all. We all will some day give an account for our ACTIONS!The path you are on will lead to "us all"losing our 1st Ammendment.

Reckless Endangerment

If there is equal justice under the law then why would BS Bill not be charged with reckless endangerment?

If Fox management has any ethics in their black souls, would he last the week?

In my opinion neither will happen since there is no equal justice in america, nor any ethics at Fox.

Here Comes The Right Wing Violence

Just like in the 1990's when Clinton was president. Wasn't the right wing just angry--oh wait, they are always angry--about a homeland security report on right wing violence? Well, here it comes. I'm sure this is just the beginning. God forbide we get another Tim McVeigh. I only wonder if anyone will want to waterboard these domestic terrorists

prosecute O'Reilly for incendiary Tiller statements

Let us hope that O'Reilly is named as a a contributor in the Tiller murder trial.

In the meantime, let us publicize O'Reillys chicanery as far and wide as possible.

What has the catholic church been saying about Dr. Tiller ?

"What makes the governor’s rhetoric and actions even more troubling has been her acceptance of campaign contributions from Wichita’s Dr. George Tiller, perhaps the most notorious late-term abortionist in the nation. In addition to Dr. Tiller’s direct donations to her campaign, the governor has benefited from the Political Action Committees funded by Dr. Tiller to support pro-abortion candidates in Kansas.

I have not made lightly this request of Governor Sebelius, but only after much prayer and reflection. The spiritually lethal message, communicated by our governor, as well as many other high profile Catholics in public life, has been in effect: “The church’s teaching on abortion is optional!”

I reissue my request of the faithful of the archdiocese to pray for Governor Sebelius. I hope that my request of the governor, not to present herself for holy Communion, will provoke her to reconsider the serious spiritual and moral consequences of her past and present actions. At the same time, I pray this pastoral action on my part will help alert other Catholics to the moral gravity of participating in and/or cooperating with the performance of abortions".

Bill the highly paid demagogue

Bill O’Reilly put a target on this man’s back and might as well have given the killer a map and bullets. He intentionally used misleading and false information to sensationalize a serious and important issue.

O’Reilly purposely provoked an emotional and angry response in people, not so that Dr. Tiller would be murdered, for Republican votes. His job is to get the extremists to the polls. Dr. Tillar’s death is an unfortunate consequence of O’Reilly’s highly paid demagoguery.

Moral wrong but not legal

I too think O'Reilly's demagoguery help stoke the fire which led this apparently long simmering right wing terrorist to act. But he did not operate in a vacuum - the killer was a member of Operation Rescue - and while he was morally wrong and depraved in his indifference and a factor in the violence, I don't see how he could be held criminally responsible. If he is, it would justify many of the actions against left wing activists - like the Chicago 8 and the Haymarket martyrs - and I can't advocate that.

O'Reilly is the one with blood

on his hands. He is guilty as the murderer. He should be treated as an accomplice, before the fact, and brought to justice.

O'Reilly's campaign against murdered doctor

I would like to know if there is a journalist out there who might follow up on the legal ramifications of O'Reilly's language, which to me seems to fall not in the category of protected speech, but language that incites violence. This language is not protected by the First Amendment. It is despicable that someone could get away with having what could be argued convincingly to be a direct relationship to the murder of this doctor. But then again we had eight years of Dick Cheney, I mean George Bush, sending troops to kill and be killed in Iraq, having never justified the war to the American people without lying about the justifications (weapons of mass destruction, connection to Al Quaeda, all proven to be wrong, but continued to use them anyway). Both Reilly and the Bush administration have justified murder one way or another and left the American people, and the world watching us, with the impression that the US, those in charge (O'Reilly with his "news" and the former Bush administration, that is), has the morals of killers.
