Rival Islamic militant groups are joining forces to make Pakistan into a stronghold -- and are receiving support from Pakistan's ISI intelligence agency.

Blowback is a real pain in the ass . . .

When will America ever learn that its meddling in everybody's business is part of the problem. Control is an illusion. Fear of loss of control the preferred tool that maintains the illusion.

Pakistan is in no more danger of losing control of its nuclear weapons than is America. The detonation mechanisms can be permanently disabled in minutes if not less. Nations don't build doomsday devices without adequate safeguards to protect them from falling into undesireable hands and being used against their own people. (Our own military inspectors have independently reported on the safety of Pakistan's nuclear arsenal several times in the recent past). The Pakistani military is quite capable of defending these assets and in the statistically unlikely event it wasn't fully prepared to do so it only has to ask the US or any other nuclear power for appropriate technological assistance and it would be given freely.

The big lie to keep people fearful and the MIC bleeding everyone dry.

What's this neocon crap doing here?

What a fascinating article! I didn't know that Judith Miller is spieling at Der Spiegal these days.

Orange alert! Orange alert!! Warning! Warning! Danger! Danger!Oh my god, the AFPAKS are massing at the border, they are allied with Al Qaida (why not, EVERYONE else is?) and worse they are planning to ATTACK AMERICA!

The only solution possible? Use the Predators, kill them all. When that fails, invade Pakistan. Sure as shit, you'll be home by Christmas.

I have a simple simple solution to the Afpakiranian problem. Get out of their country. Stay out of their country.

Go home America; take all the money you are now spending on killing people and use it to develop alternative energy sources.

Why do they hate you? What a stupid fraking question.

Stupid liberals

Thomas Jefferson sent our Marines to Tripoli in 1801. He did not want to but too much pirate activity and 1 out of every five US dollars was going to these Mediteranian Pirates. No surprise that no country in Europe would help us even though thier ships were being attacked as well. They called Jefferson arrogant as well for calling them out on thier cowardice. Jefferson hated war but he understood principle. The term "leatherneck" even comes from a leather collar that marines wore in that war to help defend against Muslim sword blade strikes to the neck. We have been fighting Muslim extremist for over 200 years. Somalia is simular today we were right to try and stop them in 1991 but Bill Clinton did not have the guts to follow it through when it got tough,Black Hawk Down. Look at what we got,our wimpness then empowered them, they attacked our ships, our embassies, and the World Trade Center twice. The mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan have been a haven for Islamic Terrorist. Pakistan is without the guts to help. A threat to all Europe but still we are basically alone to fight these radicals. Obama can kiss thier ass and not call them on thier cowardice and in return they'll call him something other than arrogant as they did Jefferson,Kennedy,Reagan and Bush. They already have had new names for Obama printed in thier papers in France,Britain and Germany, they called him wimpy, boring and a windbag.

I have already read some comments here that Pakistan and it's nuclear weapons are "no threat".The author of this article called a "neocon"etc. The Soros,Acorn,Union backed flood bloggers already in force, trying to fake a false concensus of issues by mass postings to minimize Obama critics and marginalize these truths: Islamofacism is a real threat, they are at war with us,they seek to regroup after the beating we have given them,Pakistan is weakened more each day by these extremist and they could get thier hands on nuclear weapons if Iran or North Korea don't give them to them first. The rest of the world has little if any intention to help. Obama has an unrealistic world view and agenda that threaten our economic security and physical safety.

Won't Be Much Here. Move Along.

Liberals know they can't comment much on this truth because they end up looking like total dumbasses. Like rrheard and Bill.

You two just just shut it and try to stick your heads just a little bit further up your butts and everything will be just peachy. The world will pass you by and others will continue to take care of you and ensure you have the right to sit and spout horse hockey.

All you have to do is stay out of the way here on Salon and leave the defense of your country and your way of life to those who have a pair.

@ Traumatic

I assume that you are posting from the front lines of the GWOT?

Be brave, another 200 years and you'll be home by Christmas.

Well it's about time.

I saw a video recently where one of these guys outlined a plan to smuggle pounds of Anthrax into the US from Mexico. Claimed it would kill 330,000 Americans. One can hope.

The first two posters are reasons liberals shouldn't run the military.

Can you imagine the situation we'd be in if folks like those were in charge of our "overseas contingency operations"?

Obama may be soft, but atleast he's not THAT soft.

The fallacy of the liberal mindset is that they refuse to accept the fact that EVIL EXISTS.

@Bill

I did my 20 years in the World's Greatest Nuclear Navy and loved almost every minute of it. You have the distinct pleasure of addressing one of those you belittle. I did have my cruise on the good ol' USS Saratoga extended because we were dropping bombs on Saddam's army in 2001. You should have been there to hear Nazareth's Hair of the Dog playing on the 5MC just before we launched that very first Alpha Strike. It was enough to warm the cockles of the hardest of hearts and bring a tear to the eye of many, like you, who got to sit home and bash Bush I for having a pair. I don't hold it against you personally, though. Hell, I know you don't even understand what "having a pair" really means.

I think it must be pretty good to know that those like yourself don't have to really worry about when I get home. We take care of that for you. Also, whether you think so or not, you're truly blessed to live in the country you live in. You can sit and make fun of those, who have a pair (There are many women who have a pair, let me tell you.), who put their asses on the line so you don't have to. There's also that added bonus that you don't get yourself and your family shot by doing so.

I hold no animosity toward you, sir. While I seriously meant everything I said I also know I have the right to say those things just like you have the right to say the things you say. I can remember the faces of a few people who paid for that right with their lives.

I'm sure you have some friends or family members who were trigger-pullers in that small skirmish or maybe even something like Vietnam or WW2. Have you thanked them lately?

YOU should!
