"I will not travel to Auschwitz"

The letters thread is now closed.

If he believes in hell, he's worried

The Peter Principle is alive and well in the Catholic hierarchy.

Nothing to see here folk, move along.

@Ms. Anthropia --

Williamson is not a "top Catholic cleric" by any stretch of the immagination.

He is a bishop in the same vein as Sinead O'Connor. They were both elevated to the office against the wishes of the then Pope, and all concerned were excommunicated for those actions.

Salon is rather consistent with distorting facts for the purpose of boosting clicks and letter counts.

My dear KiteFlyer,

I had no idea that Sinead O'Connor had been given a Bishopric. Before I turn Catholic, can I see a picture of her in a Mitre? I bet she is still hot.

BTW - Do you know where one can get a leather habit and wimple? It isn't for me, it is for a friend.

ARRANGEMENTS CAN, AND SHOULD, BE MADE

For the Inquiring Bishop to travel to and enjoy the luxurious accommodations at Auschwitz. There should also be side-trips planned to the "dedicated" extermination camps: Bergen-Belsen, Chelmo (Kulmhof), Belzec, Janowska (Lwow), Jasenovac, Majdanek (Lublin), Maly Trostenets, Sajmiste, Sobibor, and Treblinka -- reserving visits to the other 44 camps used primarily as collection points, transit points, or labor camps for some later time. It may take a while to gather a private boxcar, filth, and some fresh corpses so that he can make the adventure more authentic. But once ready, he could begin his travels in France, just a chunnel ride away.

And once he realizes that "yes, Bishop, there was a Holocaust," he may join the rest of us in wondering why Pius XII (just II away from his Society's Problematic Primate) didn't manage to prioritize opposition to the folks, some of them Roman Catholic, who were busily carrying out the Holocaust. Maybe addressing the murders of all those pesky Jews, Gypsies, and intellectuals deserved a bit more attention and action than divorce, condom use or non-Latin mass celebrations -- even an excommunication or two of some of the Nazi leaders could have been thrown in.

And if the Bishop doesn't believe, then, just maybe, he should stay in Auschwitz -- until he does.

Shoe on the other foot

So WHEN are Livni and Netanyahu going to amke a sombre and introspective visit to GAZA to witness the destruction and human misery they have CAUSED.

(Note - the Bishop didn't CAUSE the Holocaust)

I bet they will not be travelling to Gaza unless they have removed the Palestinians.

No one will pester them about it and no media will do an article about it either.

I wager that Lieberman would like to visit but that would be just to kill more Palestinians up close and personal like.

@Something Stinks

Having had a chance to read your letters on this thread, I now regret having praised you earlier. You're as bigoted as Steele.

My dear DurianJoe,

Truth hertz donut?

I wouldn't worry too much about it, you probably just are not that smart.

I don't like Nazis, sorry to offend, but I don't care what costume they wear of what symbol they parade around with.

Don't blame me, blame Hollywood.

Do watch the orginal "The Day the Earth Stood Still" and then understand why they had to trash it. Robert Wise was Jewish - his film could not be made today without scrubbing it of his message and views.

Stupid people don't bother me much.

CHEERS!

DurianJoe,

Here is some "bigoted words" from me tp steele from this thread:

"On March 21 there will be an anti-war march on the Pentagon. I urge you to attend. You will find many Jews there, along with Moslems, Christians, Buddhists, Taoists, Hindus and many others, ALL good people and ALL opposed to the war and ALL opposed to the targeting of civilians my military force.

When people are not at war with each other HATRED becomes a useless and annoying appendage.

Some of the most eloquent voices against war have been Jewish ones and when you tar Judaism you also tar its siblings, Christianity and Islam for they are all variants of the ancient Hebrew religion.

People have also spit on Jews and Moslems as well as Christians for none of these religions have come up with a solution for stupid hateful assholes who look to their relations with contempt and suspicion.

You wouldn't want people to hold what the Mafia did against Catholics so please don't make the same mistake with Zionists and Jews. It is just a sub-culture of the criminal element and all populations seem to have that. Some are more successful than others. In this country they are called Republicans and Democrats."

Nothing worse to you than someone who is BIGOTED against Nazis and War Mongers.

No go change your pants because you have filled them up and I have to tell you

Catholicism Is A Sham from Top To Bottom...

...and Bishop Williamason is just another brick in its wall of ignorance, superstition and love of power over its adherents.

The scope and depth of the pain and suffering it has inflicted on millions of people for hundreds of years is staggering, and yet the uttering of its leaders continues to be parroted by the media.

Imagine no Catholicism (or religion for that matter). It's easy if you try... The world would be a very different and better place without it.

Show me one other community on Earth where it is common practice for religious students to spit on other's clerics.

Your anology would hold if the Mafia were a branch of the Catholic Church. Your anology would hold if Catholic Priests and Bishops openly spoke and wrote about the merits of organized crime. They don't, so it doesn't.

That's what I love about Liberals - they love to call names and attribute hatred and bigotry and evil to anyone who disagrees with them. But ask them to define their terms, and back it up, and there is only silence. It's just bullying. Just like the ADL and the Southern Poverty Law Center does. There is nothing more hideous than convincing others that someone has hate in their heart and intentions when they really don't. I believe it is one of the Ten Commandments: "Thou Shalt Not Bear False Witness Against Thy Neighbor." It is an especially horrible thing to do, and it is a specialty of Liberals.
