The Obama era starts now

With goodwill behind him -- and crisis ahead -- it's time for the incoming president to show us what he's got.

The letters thread is now closed.

More of the same old shit.

And vice-versa

Yes, "it's time for the incoming president to show us what he's got."

It's also time for us to show him what we've got. So when he comes to us and says, "we're broke. Entitlement programs are not sustainable. We're going to have to raise taxes and lower benefits and extend the retirement age," we will have to react in some way other than holding our breath and stamping our feet.

If we don't, or if the President can't summon the courage to deliver that message, we are truly, truly doomed.

I feel sorry for the poor bastard.

Think about the pedestal that so many have placed him on. For millions of Americans, that's going to be his *baseline*. Imagine their outrage when he doesn't manage to soar above it. And how could he possibly?

Good luck to him and to us.

High bar for his speeches after the 2004 convention speech??

I liked your article Mike, but a high bar?

After eight years of that stammering, arrogant ignorant buffoon named Bush the "bar" for presidential speeches is about even with the dirt.

A recording of Obama singing in the shower would blow away the best Bush has done in his entire political career.

No, the bar is low because he is president now and the tradition of great Presidential orators has been badly tarnished by Bush.

Even though the bar is low Obama represents America's rejection of buffoonery and a renewed commitment to competence, intelligence and hard work.

I expect Obama give a historic, substantive and moving speech not because of mental "bar" but because he IS a historic, substantive and moving man.

Welcome President Obama, and my old pair of stinky shoes for Bush.

expectations

Now is probably a good time for us to get real about managing our expectations of Obama.

1) He is a politician, not Jesus.

2) He will still have the bureaucracy and congress to deal with on everything.

3) The world will still suck tomorrow. These problems will take most if all his first term to solve.

But...

We can rejoice in knowing at least things will improve now, even if at a snail's pace.

"BATTA' UP!!

Yes, indeed, Mike,

This is it! This is this country's last best chance to save our Republic. Keeping said Republic in tact has cost America much. Not in just so many, many lives. This is, or should be a constant source of humility and supreme gratitude from every American.

Oh but for the day when our populations were so small every man, woman, and child knew every other families for many miles around. Imagine the uncertainty and questioning that passed between home to home, village to village, town to town and then from one large city to the next. Every, EVERY American was a part of this Revolution against tyranny, but also decisions regarding willingness to die, to sacrifice your own to see it's fruition.

Imagine the spirit. The drive, determination and solidarity. How gloriously profound a time.

Despite having courageously won our Independence from England, it was not a century from our Declaration, that the mindsets of some Americans would change. Those, who would put themselves fully before Country, began trying to divide the Union by ideology, religion, pursuit of great wealth, and mostly political posturing.

They were bound to secede their individual states from the Union, determined to refute what became "Federal Law" happy to live within the laws and doctrines of their own States. The one thorniest doctrines in a state's controls was those dealing with the buying, selling, treatment and disposition of any black person within the state, and often even blacks from "free" states were subjected to inhumane and unGodly treatment.

Even Lincoln's didn't change anything.

"Batta Up" continued

The Emancipation Proclamation, albeit an historic Presidential position and document, did not see any immediate or measurable change, and this was for many reasons.

Our Civil War was one of history's greatest displays of carnage. Neighbor fighting neighbor, only due to the property line running through the lands. This distressed Abraham Lincoln beyond description. To keep these States Unified was the only Lincoln would entertain. And it was Lincoln alone who by his calmness of nature, his immense capacity for deep thought, his adoration of his children, openness to criticism, and a true love for every single American that held him together throughout most of the War, while setting in motion, the eventual, and far, far too long denied equal rights for all.

A man of huge character must sit in the Oval Office. In Barack Hussein Obama, we have found one. Thank you God

The End Of The Boomers

The End of The Boomers

With Barack Obama's inauguration the boomer generation has been sent to pasture early, and deservedly so. With so much potential, with all the good of the sixties, the hopes and expectations for a better world, the boomer generation was left wanting...Horribly woefully wanting, its final gasp The Doofus, George W Bush.

This generation after world war 2, so large and with so much potential, ultimately sold out, and by selling out left our nation in a mess of war and economic ruin.

Deeply is a boomer, but there were not enough of him, greed took hold, and thus after electing boomer Presidents for only sixteen years, a centrist Democrat with a pecker problem, and a fool of a Republican, the boomers leave the stage. Their parents generation lasted longer with Presidents spanning twice as long. How sad, but it is time. Let us hope for the Obama generation.

According to every news channel

It's just about race. 1 billion percent 24/7/365 about race. Just race.

Translation

"With goodwill behind him -- and crisis ahead -- it's time for the incoming president to show us what he's got."

That's moonbatspeak for "Now we'll see if the empty suit has any substance."

The baby boomers were born between 1946 and 1964. Obama was born in 1961. The man-child is indeed a baby boomer. He will not be the last boomer president.
