W. and the damage done

President Bush inherited a peaceful, prosperous America. As he exits, Salon consults experts in seven fields to try to assess the devastation.

The letters thread is now closed.

Dear Trolls,

No attacks since 9/11? Oh, you forgot about the nasty white powder attacks (directed against liberals, not the kind that Bush used).

Anyway, Shooter242, Elephantman, Carmina, etc. Here is a simple message for you.

You're not believed anymore.

Not by sane people.

Troll on. You are utterly not believed, and never again shall be.

Keep plugging into Rush, Sean, Wiener, Coulter. Try not to drool too much...

Salon's lies on torture

Reportedly, only three al Qaeda members, including KSM, were subjected to waterboarding (and with results that saved many Americans). I personally do not consider that a form of torture. Liberals often confuse waterboarding with the "water cure," which actually is torture since it entails actually puring water down the victim's thought until his stomach feels as if it will burst. Our troops did this against Philippine insurgents and "Moros" during the Philippine-American War, as did the Japanese against their enemies.

Liberals such as the authors of this piece and the extremely dishonest Glenn Greenwald never acknowledge that the policy of extraordinary rendition began in 1995 when Bill Clinton was president. Michael Scheuer, the CIA agent who devised the policy for the Clinton administration, was asked a few years ago if torture took place during the Clinton years: "I have no doubt about it," Scheuer replied. "You’d think I’m an ass if I said nobody was tortured. There was more of a willingness in the [Clinton] White House to turn a blind eye to the legal niceties than within the CIA. The Agency always knew it would be left holding the baby for this one."

A member of the Clinton administration's national security team, with his refusal to deny that torture occurred doing the Clinton years, seems to confirm what Scheuer said.

"The guidelines for Clinton-era renditions required that subjects could be sent only to countries where they were not likely to be tortured—countries that gave assurances to that effect and whose compliance was monitored by the State Department and the intelligence community," David Benjamin said. "It’s impossible to be certain that those standards were upheld every time, but serious efforts were made to see that they were." (My emphasis)

We all have our opinions regarding torture. However, it is simply dishonest to suggest that no terror suspects were tortured prior to the Bush administration. So let's stop this lie that it started after 9/11.

No

George W. Bush did not inherit a "peaceful, prosperous America."

I'm no fan of George W. Bush, but we were a grabby, greedy, and unsustainable America before his tenure. He made it worse, FOR SURE, but the seeds were sown long before.

@Progressor

"No attacks since 9/11? Oh, you forgot about the nasty white powder attacks (directed against liberals, not the kind that Bush used)."

The "nasty white powder" was also sent to several in the media. Are you acknowledging that Tom Brokaw and others in the media are liberals?

And be careful with your snide remarks. There is no proof that Bush used cocaine. Barack Obama admitted to using cocaine in his first autobiography.

idiots

anyone who thinks that bush & co are less than traitors is a moron. a wal-mart shopping, fox news watching, 50 iq idiot. they have destroyed our national reputation, ignored the deaths of thousands, tanked the world economy, TORTURED, and allowed climate change to reach a tipping point that may endanger us in ways we can't imagine. any less than HANGING these scumbags would be too good for them. in my opinion, mr bush and mr cheney should be both be tortured first.

@WillBFair

"And for goodness sake, when will liberals start up their own news outlets, starting on public access and moving onto commercial bandwidth?"

Funniest comment of the day!

@ igeekinc

"After September 11th Bush had nearly every American supporting him"

To say nothing about much of the rest of the world, too, lest we forget.

Aim low, you can't screw it up.

Whatever Obama does he plausibly can't do worse than Bush. I guess he could proclaim himself emperor and enslave everyone, mandate we all speak Esperanto or something like that, but otherwise, it's impossible to be unable improve on Bush.

"oh and quit the global warming bullshit

nobody buys it anymore.

HAHAHAHA!! And THIS coming from someone who is afraid to use a microwave oven because he doesn't know how it works.

Can Salon be held liable?

If liberals act on opinions such as this one:

"anyone who thinks that bush & co are less than traitors is a moron. a wal-mart shopping, fox news watching, 50 iq idiot. they have destroyed our national reputation, ignored the deaths of thousands, tanked the world economy, TORTURED, and allowed climate change to reach a tipping point that may endanger us in ways we can't imagine. any less than HANGING these scumbags would be too good for them. in my opinion, mr bush and mr cheney should be both be tortured first."

Salon appears to be fostering this type of hate speech. We had several cases of liberals attacking GOP HQs and volunteers last fall. What if liberals begin going the route of Bill Ayers? Can we hold Salon and others liable?

Please send this article to President - elect Obama

President Bush inherited a peaceful, prosperous America. That sounds absolutely wonderful if only it were true.

In regards to peaceful that is hardly true. Give credit to President Jimmy Carter for his inability to declare war on Iran in 1979 for their act of war against America. Iran can get most of the credit for this Islamic Jihad disease that the civilized world has to deal with thanks to Carter, not President Bush.

In regards to prosperous, the downfall credit is hardly President Bush’s. All those crooked politicians (do the research who was on the take, you will not find President Bush on the list) taking handouts particularly from Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac, all the crooks financial market and last but not least all the incompetent and lazy Americans who bought houses they could not afford and ran up credit bills for junk they just had to have, but could never pay for. Funny, I do not remember President Bush falling into any of those categories.

Finally, please send this article to President – elect Obama so he is not made to be a patsy for the crooks in four years.
