  • What a bunch of fucking lies.

This is the very definition of how a fact-free story gets life through an attractive narrative.

The GOP isn't trying to kill these companies. They'd like to save them. They offered to help save them, on the condition that the companies and the union face up to the same kinds of brutal, neccessary cuts that a Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization would provide for -- WILL provide for, at some point in the near future if profitability isn't achieved.

You all think that the GOP doesn't care about, or believe in, these companies. That's untrue, although there is one Congressman who doesn't mind at all suggesting that he doesn't care about them. That's Barney Frank, (D-MA), who said this:

"No. We’re not propping up companies. That’s your mistake," {Rep. Frank, talking to CBS 60 Minutes reporter Leslie Stahl} "We’re propping up individuals. The world doesn't consist of companies. The world is people. The country is people."

Read: We are in this to take care of the UAW, the profitabality of the Detroit Three be damned.

That's the same kind of warfare that other House and Senate Democrats hav been waging on Detroit for years. Case in point: CAFE standards and emissions requirements. CAFE standards do nothing, and certainly not what proponents claim. They don't reduce gasoline consumption. Or carbon emissions. Higher gasoline prices do that. And of course that is what European nations do, with even more wacko green politicians than in the U.S. They tax gasoline. They don't have CAFE standards.

Then there is the current battle over emissions standards, with California Democrats wanting to impose 50 individual state standards in lieu of a single, comprehensible national standard.

Both of these penalties that are uniquely punitive to the Detroit Three can't be removed because of one thing. The Democrats' slavish adherence to the demands of their environmental donors, the Sierra Club & Co.

It is shameful. Talk about stories that aren't getting proper coverage in the mainstream press.

  • Liberal Wrecking Crew

Someone needs to be the Rush Limbaugh of the left, and let me tell you, it ain't Keith Olbermann.

Someone needs to tell America that there is nothing more un-American than a party whose ideology is characterized by sending troops in harms way for Exxon and KBR; there's nothing more anti-American than a party whose ideology is characterized by their antithesis to the American worker, antithesis to keeping American industry in America.

Nothing is more anti-freedom than forcing democracy upon unwilling populations at the barrel of a gun, whether that country is Vietnam, Columbia, Afghanistan or Iraq.

What we need is a loud mouth combination of Dennis Kucinich and George Carlin, with a bit of Hunter S. Thompson mixed in, and with the brains of Rachel Maddow.

I'm sick of hearing it from these fatuous, me-first and the gimme-gimme right wing snot-fuckers who think they are entitled to act like the greedy fat-heads they are.

You aren't special, you aren't entitled, and for a group that identifies with religion, you sure are an immoral, un-humble lot.

    Fuck you!

it's a bad idea for us to seccede from the union ,but i see no other choice.

Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There never was a democracy yet that did not commit suicide, and Amerika is committing suicide. In recognizing the severity of its difficulties the country has chosen a reform candidate to lead it, believing a good leader can save it, but it did so too late.

Amerika no longer has choices. Long depression, and starvation, riots are already on the horizon. Amerika will soon no longer be able to maintain itself as a whole country. Already the cracks are forming. The corruptions of national integrity are deep and irreconcilable.

For all its history the US has avoided the political and boundary shifts which have plagued the rest of the world over the centuries, particularly Europe and western Asia, but it will not be able to avoid them much longer. The types of divisions have become many, and those divisions are becoming greater before your eyes. War is coming.

  • Minority rules

What is the point of having this long sought after majority in the house and senate? This vote needs a 3/5ths majority because it appropriates money. 4 Dems strayed from the caucus. Even with the 4 the Dems would have been 4 shy, but still... Even if we spend all this time courting a-holes like Lieberman, there will still be 4 nozzles who will vote against their party. Without a tighter control of the party line, that 60 member Senate filibuster-proof majority is more or less a pipe dream.

On the vote itself: Screw the American auto industry. They do more damage to this planet than can be made up for with their creepy factory jobs. Anyone been to Detroit lately? I have. The best thing that could happen to those people is if the auto industry disappeared overnight, then they might get on with their lives and rise above the crime and poverty and soulless existence of the factory slave.

You have to have ashes to rise out of them like a Phoenix. Burn it down.

  • Harry Reid

That procedural thing is in Robert's Rules of Order.

  • The Voice of Reason

    Burn it down.

    As you wish.

You neocon liars will wish to consider that when the US collapses that it shall fall on your heads also and leave you grieving for your own losses, and that you will have yourselves to blame for your own parts in it.

Look around you. Liars you are. Tremble at the doom you bring upon yourselves.

You well deserve your misery, neocon. Expect me to gloat on it.

  • The Voice of Reason

Do you know the causes of war? Many are already present. The others will arrive by and by.

What do you know of war, child? And what would you wish to learn?

  • just a minute...

I am more and more of the opinion that Bush and his friends are getting over on all of us one last time with the banking and auto bailouts before he leaves office.

An article which is but one example of this: http://tinyurl.com/6hhzh4

These corporations which have screwed the American public for the last eight years are going in for their last helpings before the Obama administration hopefully turns off the tap.

After which these same companies will lay off millions of american workers.
