Meet the GOP's wrecking crew

Why did a small group of Southern Republicans turn the auto bailout into a demolition derby? Introducing the senators who hate unions and love foreign cars.

The letters thread is now closed.

As a citizen of SC...

...having seen some of dumbest stunts southern politicians can pull, even I am shocked by this grotesque discard of reality. I didn't think that this sort of crass, venal, vicious attempt to castrate the unions would occur with the known and obvious outcome of economic devastation.

BMW didn't come to non-union South Carolina because they felt like it. They came because the state gave the company a long, wet blowjob that cost every one of us a material amount of wealth. Fuck Jim DeMint (sounds French).

If I didn't think that Norm Coleman might edge him out, I'd nominate DeMint (sounds French) as the most empty suit, dumbest man in the Senate.

Corker is an interesting case.

I see him as more of a business republican in the old school mode. He would do this for business reasons and doesn't strike me as one of those southern senators who wallow in ideology.

The others, while doing this for their states and seeing them as more important the good of the country, are also ones who are hard core ideologs.

This will play well at home south of the mason dixon line but, it will destroy the party elsewhere.

The republicans just solidified themselves as a regional party.

Oh yeah, and one more thing...

I haven't heard anyone contrast the Detroit of what -- $13 billion-- with the $152 billion we gave bankers on Wall Street. And what are they doing with that corporate welfare money? If you're AIG you're making "retention payments" or as people who like to eliminate the bullshit from their dialogue might call "bonuses".

Oh ... that's right though. Their collars are pearly white. Silly me.

Grrrrr

And, damnit, I meant "overstate" in that first line of my original post. Fail.

These Southern Senators did not think of something

How are these foreign car companies going to stay in business and make cars when most in this country cannot afford to buy a car.

You don't just put 3 million out of work in the car industry but, the small businesses and stores and dinners, ect., that depend on people spending money.

With all those jobs gone on top of the car industry ones, people will not be buying the cars made in the south either!

CONFEDERATE-CONSERVATIVES SLEEPING WITH AMERICA'S ECONOMIC ENEMIES/COMPETITORS

What will the Confederate-Conservatives do for forty pieces of silver (or 20 new auto plants to be built in the occupied southern states that once belonged to the Black Wa$hitaw Empire, Seminole, Jamassee, Gwale and a number of Black and Red Aboriginal nations)?

The 'Confederate-Conservatives,' and former Dixiecrats -- the very same system that brought about a civil war because they did not want to abolish slavery....the same people who maintained semi-slaver/sharecropping till the early 1970's...the same people who continue to ran a modern form of slavery in the South that makes young Black men victims...THIS IS THE 'CONFEDERATE CONSERVATIVE' MINDSET THAT IS DETERMINED TO BRING DOWN THE NORTHERN STATES, BY refusing to help loan these states the money they need to spring back up.

However, THER IS BILLIONS FOR NATIONS IN THE MIDDLE EAST WHO BUILD SETTLEMENTS AND WALLS TO CONTROL OTHER PEOPLE. There is billions for continuous war in Iraq. There is billions for pork projects in these states.

The former slave-holding states and AMERICA'S FOREIGN COMPETITORS ARE IN A DIABOLICAL CONSPIRACY to destroy the Northern Automobile industry.

Therefore, what are the three million Northerners who work for the auto industry supposed to do?

Perhaps the 20 to 50 million people who are going to be affected by the shutting down of the auto industry and related/sattlite industries SHOULD ALL FLOOD THE TOWNS AND CITIES OF THE SOUTHERN STATES.

Since foreign car manufacturers are building plants in the South -- perhaps autoworkers should flood back SOUTH.

That way, with three to 50 million new northerners living in the South due to the lack of jobs in the Northern auto-producing states -- THE SOUTH CAN BE RETURNED TO ITS SENSES AND HAVE A DEMOCRATIC MAJORITY THROUGHOUT THE SOUTH TO BRING THIS NATION BACK INTO BEING A MODERN INDUSTRIAL POWER, RATHER THAN A FEUDAL, Confederate-conservative, 'let them eat cake' nation that will sell its soul to foreign car manufacturers and destroy its industries due to its hatred for unions and for the American worker to have the right to get a fair deal for his/her labor.

It is time for sensible economics in America. The American worker deserves better. Slavery economics must go. Colaborating with foreign auto industries and foreign companies to destroy Detroit while inviting foreign car companies to build auto plants in the South is the worse form of treatery -- as bad as the attack on Fort Sumpter which was the first attack in the Civil War.

THIS TIME, HAS THE SOUTHERN 'CONFEDERATE-CONSERVATIVES,' the propaganda machine led by Shorn Connity, Roosh Limbugstein, O'really, Cunni-lingham, and the rest of the Forked-tongued media declared economic war on the US and are conspiring with foreign nations to do this dastardly deed?

Foreign, domestic what's the difference

Mr. Koppelman and Mr. Madden are full of crap. I dislike Republicans as much as the next guy, but the bottom line is that Nissan, Toyota, Honda, VW, etc. employ Americans, pay decent wages, have good benefits, and make better cars. Most Americans know this and could care less if GM, Ford and Chrysler went out of business. Yeah unemployment is not fun, but instead of throwing money into the sinkhole that is the domestic auto industry we should invest in a decent safety net that would make *all* unemployed American’s life less miserable.

This Discussion Would Be Irrelevent .....

If the Congress had done the right thing to start with and bailed out nobody ......... then no one would be arguing about who should be bailed out.

These bastards who profited from their leverage games (and have hundreds of millions in their bank accounts to prove it) were bailed out ...... in China, they would have probably been arrested, stripped of their assets, tried in public and hanged.

Too bad the USA is more corrupt than China.
