Hitler, loudly proclaimed his Christianity in the bulk of his speeches and boasted about stamping out atheism.

His soldiers had belt-buckles adorned with the maxim "Gott mit uns" and the policy he instituted with regards to genocide targetted people specifically according to what religion they belonged to.

Yet you proclaim he was a secularist. You know, that is the thing about Christians I have noticed, you guys do love lying for your Jesus.

  • Prove that it doesn't fightthetheocracy!

It doesn't take a brainiac to figure this one out. You can use any country as a case study--France, England, the former Soviet Union. As they swing farther to the left they pay more taxes and lose more freedom. Government becomes their god.

Look at America--as we have taken God out of our schools, our courts, our civic facilities, we have lost freedoms. We are no longer, as the Declaration of Independence states, "endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights."

Example, if I were a teacher in a public school and I wanted to open each class with a non-denominational or non-Christian prayer, according to Engel v. Vitale, I could not. Even though the majority of America (82%) is Christian and would like to show a form of adoration, they are unable to.

Democracy is a form of government in which power is held by people under a free electoral system NOT by judges.

Another example, the people of California have voted in favor of Proposition 8--now lawyers and judges are disputing the will of the people. That's not democracy.

As you lose faith a God you look to government to solve the pressing issues of man. You forfeit your rights so government can take care of you.

  • Oh hell, I just have to

Interesting how the christianists always forget how American slavery was justified by their reading of their bible. How many tens of millions died during transit? Nice theology you folks have got there.

Just a note to the dumbasses, secularism is not the same thing as atheism - secularism is the idea that government doesn't get to tell you what to think about God.

WWI: Fought mainly because an archduke got murdered. The main people fighting the war were Christians who each believed that God gave them a license to win it. Secularism didn't come anywhere near it, and the atheist communists were the ones who ultimately took Russia out of it.

WWII: Hitler proudly proclaimed his Christianity and expressed loud disaproval of atheism, his propaganda spread the idea that God had specifically picked him to lead Germany to a new golden age of European conquest. Religious freedom was not a Nazi strong-suit.

The Japanese Emperor was considered to be basically a God, and thus his propaganda was largely religious too. The allies, also made extensive use of God during their propaganda.

About the only sides in that war who weren't heavily into God were the Russians and Chinese, who were being attacked by the axis powers. I would like to know where you get this idea that secularism was a major factor there.

Vietnam: Was mainly a war against a puppet dictator and over economic policy. God had very little to do with it - it wasn't fought in the name of secularism.

Stalin didn't do anything in the name of secularism, or even atheism for that matter, he did it in the name of maintaining his power. He was an atheist dictator but he wasn't a secular one.

    Mao, pretty much like Stalin.

Khan and the Roman Empire were religious you nitwit.

But hey, there is nothing quite like lying for Jesus now is there?

  • one woman's opinion

I don't think Jesus would approve of much (or if any) of what Bush has done.

    Sweden.

About 85% of the population is non-religious - it is actually the most irreligious country in the world, beating China on a per capita basis, it is in the top ten countries for living standards, bottom ten for crime, is one of the highest paid countries in the world, and one of the healthiest.

Its population ranks highly in educational attainment.

Another example, Japan, ranks in the top ten countries for atheism in the world (Now that the cult of the emperor is over) and it is similarly highly ranked when it comes to health.

South Korea is another example of a largely atheist country that does just fine without God.

About the only really "Religious" first world country is the USA, and it is generally the worst first world country to live in - with the more religious South reflecting the gap between religious and non-religious countries.

The South has higher crime rates, higher poverty rates, higher teenage pregnancy rates, Alaska (Which is sort of the South of the North) has the highest rate of rape in America, and while America's atheist population is about 7%, only about 0.2% of America's prison population is in fact atheist.

But hey, don't let the facts get in the way of you lying for your Jesus.

  • Sweden

Huh...interesting that their lives are so grand and yet they rank among the highest in suicide rates.

It was about democracy anyway dood. Read.

The Bolsheviks signed a peace deal with Germany in March of 1918. The ceasefire between Germany and the rest of Europe (That effectively ended the war) happened in November 1918.

Like I said, the atheist communists took Russia out of WWI - but don't let that stop you lying for your Jesus.

  • jwnelsonUSA

    Sweden is a Democracy "dood".

Oh, and while we are talking about prayer in schools - the ban is on organised prayer as it is about the state not being allowed to favour a religion, students can still pray if they want to.

But don't let the truth get in the way of you lying for your Jesus.

  • Oh, and if anyone wants to argue that Sweden is not in fact a democracy...

They do maintain a monarch, however the monarch is limited to ceremonial functions.

The Economist Intellegence Unit ranks them No1 out of the 167 countries they surveyed in terms of actual democracy. So much for Christianity being required for democracy.

  • Taliesan

It's a pseudo-democracy. Known as a KINGDOM. And I wasn't just talking about Sweden, where I lived for a year btw--as well as France, Belgium and Lux for two years.

I was talking about your great examples of S. Korea and Japan too. All high in suicide.

Oh and FYI, I'm not Christian and I sure as hell ain't secularist.
