Is Obama president yet? And who's that other guy in the White House? As George Bush continues his vanishing act, Barack Obama steps into the spotlight, two months early, to calm a jittery nation.

  • @BillH

If some of us believe Bush is automatically wrong, it's because he's spent the last EIGHT YEARS proving it. So maybe all those people aren't quite as unreasonable as you paint them.

  • Carter human? so what is Bush?

Jimmy Carter had a hell of a lot to deal with picking up after the elephant parade of Nixon and Ford. He may not have been the best, but he was human

    ======================================================

And Bush isn't? Human, I mean? I didn't care for many of his policies, but he has kept us safe for 8 years. Of course, you LIBBIES won't agree with that, but we haven't had a 9/11 again since. Also, may I remind you that we wouldn't have had a 9/11 if Clinton had taken care of Osama Bin Laden when he had the chance!!! Yes, he let him slip away in 1999. The media likes to hide those kind of facts when it hurts their Libbie presidents.

  • To Juan, et al.

People do not seem to realize that if even if he was in fact born in a hut in Kenya, if his mother was a U.S. citizen at the time of his birth for the requisite amount of time required (which she was), he would STILL be a U.S. citizen. Heck, he could have been born on Mars and still be eligible.

    Copied from another post:

From the U.S. State Dept. website:

Birth Abroad to One Citizen and One Alien Parent in Wedlock:

A child born abroad to one U.S. citizen parent and one alien parent acquires U.S. citizenship at birth under Section 301(g) INA provided the citizen parent was physically present in the U.S. for the time period required by the law applicable at the time of the child's birth. (For birth on or after November 14, 1986, a period of five years physical presence, two after the age of fourteen is required. For birth between December 24, 1952 and November 13, 1986, a period of ten years, five after the age of fourteen are required for physical presence in the U.S. to transmit U.S. citizenship to the child.

Now, my question to all you birth cert conspiracy theorists:

Although you all look stunning in you new hats, do you think you'll have enough tinfoil left to wrap up the Thanksgiving leftovers?

  • Wasn't his mother 18?

Wasn't Obama's mom 18?? That would mean only 4 years in US soil after the age of 14... and not 5.

I'm NOT a natural born citizen... I was born in Venezuela and even though my mom declared me a citizen when I was born that does not make me natural born. She was a US citizen and my father was not. She did, however, live in the US 10 years after the age of 14. However,I could NEVER run for President because I am not a natural born citizen. I've debated this issue for many years... but the definition of natural born is not there.

  • Is that too much to ask? I do not think so!

    To Greywolf1014,

There are differences between citizenship given by Statute and that given by the Constitution.

The Constitution speaks of ‘natural born citizen’ and what you quoted from the State Department does speak of ‘acquired citizenship’. The Courts might find a big difference there.

And if Obama was born in Kenya that would be another item to add to the list of questionable attitudes that he has had. He should have disclosed that to the American people a long time ago.

Common sense tells me that ‘natural born citizen’ means that the person that is a ‘natural born citizen’ does not have a choice to be the citizen of any other country because of his birthplace and/or his parents.

Obviously, whether Obama was born in Hawaii or Kenya, he had the choice of becoming the citizen of England, and then of Kenya, because of his father.

And there is the issue of his traveling to Pakistan. It is claimed that he traveled with an Indonesian passport and if so, then he relinquished his American citizenship.

All this could be clarified if Obama releases his ‘vault birth certificate’ and his previous passports whether American or not.

Is that too much to ask? I do not think so!

  • @terkoy

Why don't you sign up for Marines?

Are you a wimp? Sign up and prove Bush is right, and that Might makes right.

Go ahead, kick some ass in Iraq. Kill a few warm bodies with your M1 Carbine and come back and tell your kids what a great soldier you were, firing indiscriminately into the crowd and killing dozens because someone MAY have had a concealed weapon.

I guess 8 years of Bush rule is not enough for the rednecks like you.

You probably deserve to be ruled by Bush for 50 long years, until such time you are left penniless on the street with no roof over your head, and can't complain because you will be treated in Gitmo if you do.

  • @falconium

    Absolutely well said.

Classifying Cheney as anything remotely Human insults our entire species not to mention the thousands who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Cheney belongs to a species called: Bipedia Corporatica.

Rumsfeld, should be given a job by Obama: as Ambassador to Afghanistan.

Gonzales should be given the task of making New Orleans crime-free within 48 hours failing which he should be dropped off unprotected in the most crime-ridden city with a fat wad of dollars sticking out of his pockets.

The best insult Obama can give Bush is not to shake his hand during hand off and instead thank him in acceptance speech for ruining the country in so short a time.
