  • That would be a foolish thing to do because what would happen when the Democrats are in the minority again?

That would be a foolish thing to do because what would happen when the Democrats are in the minority again?

That would bring a lot of instability to the country: the basic laws would be changing every time there is a new majority in the Senate.

  • Re: TBC

I'd throw in two suggestions. Abolish the filibuster, so that a bunch of vengeance-prone spoiled-sport Reopublicans do no block Obama's plans - or opt for some nuclear option plan which will circumvent the endless morass that is the US Senate. Secondly, the super rich who brought us the current disaster need to pay for the damage they've inflicted. We need to abolish all the tax breaks that the wealthy have enjoyed these past few years and impose a hefty surtax on the top 2 or 3 %. They need to face the consequences of their irresponsible actions.

I have a better idea: Let's just declare him Dictator and get on with it :)

  • democratic presidents - foreigners - murderers - cocaine dealers

Looks like the "Clinton deals cocaine" "Hillary murdered Foster" crowd have initiated their new crusade. Obama shouldn't produce anything for any of these nuts. I teach high school kids, believe me, when immature humans want to be unreasonable, they will go whatever lengths possible to extend and enhance their unreasonableness. It's always a shame to see my students' potential so horribly wasted.

  • A person that does not believe that the eligibility of the President of the United States is important should not be a teacher!

    -scubaz,

A person that does not believe that the eligibility of the President of the United States is important should not be a teacher.

My guess is that you are teaching your students to accept totalitarianism.

  • If it weren't for Carter we wouldn't have had Reagan

I'll wait for the other shoe to drop. Wake me when it's over.

  • Calming?

Somehow when Obama speaks he doesn't make me feel calmer, just confused about all the change he was supposed to bring. Most of the cabinet seems to be Clinto retreads, beginning with the spare tire herself. Then there are the Bush people at the Trrasury. Bush won the war for Obama, all he has to do is deal with the peace. That is, if IIndia and Pakistan don't go to war. Bush also left him with a bailout and he had been hope that someone knows what they are doing. Nothing he has said yet makes me believe he knows more than what he reads in the journals. As for his big fix, five-year plans never seem to work out.

  • Carter 2

If it weren't for Carter we wouldn't have had Reagan

I'll wait for the other shoe to drop. Wake me when it's over.

Yeah.... if it weren't for Carter... we wouldn't be having Carter II :)

  • Juliebird, MaxNYC, and Juan Enrique

Juliebird, I love your coinage of "abyssmal."

MaxNYC, you do a good job of memorizing and repeating what you heard on Fox.

John Henry, you actually said something sensible about the filibuster.

  • Juan Enrique

wants to be President of the United States. But he isn't a natural born citizen, hence his Quixotic obsession with a dead issue. Give it a rest, Juan. If the right wing conspiracy couldn't shake this coconut out of the tree,

    no one can.

    Happy Thanksgiving

  • The presidency gap forces funny politics. It seems more to hurt Obama more than help him.

It's too bad the haters and deniers seem to have so much time to give responses on these threads. Of course Obama is not President yet but the article is about wishing it was so and how Bush has allowed a vacuum of power. Yes Obama is American and those who say otherwise probably believe other conspiracy theories. Damn! but freedom of speech can be such a pain with morons like those mucking about.

There is such a fishbowl on the presidency gap and so much time until inaugeration. I think Obama needs to find ways to frame his situation, and saying "I'm not President yet" is the smartest - it puts blame on problems where they firmly belong. He needs to push this harder now that Repub talking points attempt to accuse Obama for all the problems. Another worry is how the left wing has already split ranks and are criticizing Obama. Sheesh, let the guy have 6 months in office before blame is laid.

  • Carter 2?

How dare you miscreants mention Jimmy Carter in comparative reference to the O-man when the smoke hasn't yet cleared from the train wreck the Bush family has left us this Holiday season.

Jimmy Carter had a hell of a lot to deal with picking up after the elephant parade of Nixon and Ford. He may not have been the best, but he was human.

I'm not sure that W, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Gonzales and the other R-Bots can be classified as part of our species, much less our citizenry, after the last 8 years.

  • President Delect George Bush

Contrary to the tone of this article, the transition efforts of the Bush administration, and it's actions since the start of the economic crisis broke, deserve praise. By all accounts, the current administration has worked hard to ease the transition. They have actively reached out to Obama and his people. They have also consulted with them on financial actions that will have a profound affect on Obama's presidency.

Give Bush some credit. Imagine the steps he could be taking to sabotage Obama's chances for a successful presidency. Bush may be a wanker with a long history of wankerous acts, but in the transition, he has behaved admirably.

  • Is there a bigger folly than that?

    Falconium.

    Conspiracy? I am not sure.

Don’t you know the folly of men?

Do you think it is impossible that Obama might want, and intend to, be President even if he knew he was not eligible?

Think again. Adam and Eve thought they could hide from God in Paradise after the sin. And we repeat the intent every day.

Is there a bigger folly than that?

The prudent thing to do is to wait. Meanwhile, would you sign the petition?

  • Consistency

So Bush should have moved into the White House on November 8th, 2000?
