Is Obama president yet?

And who's that other guy in the White House? As George Bush continues his vanishing act, Barack Obama steps into the spotlight, two months early, to calm a jittery nation.

The letters thread is now closed.

"Bill. Read what you are writing. You're willing to insult a perfect stranger for the article they MIGHT have written in a different world with a more competent President."

You miss my point. My point isn't that Bush is or is not a competent President. My point is that to some people like Madden, it doesn't matter what Bush does or doesn't do he is just automatically wrong.

Obama has still to prove he is a ‘natural born citizen’!

Obama has still to prove he is a ‘natural born citizen’!

There are still some legal suits pending, two of them at the Supreme Court of the United States.

Obama will eventually have to release his vault birth certificate to prove he was born a “natural born citizen’. And the vault certificate might not prove it.

We will see.

Natural born coverup

What gets me is that no one except Berg and some of the others are saying anything about it. Why is the media not touching it with a ten foot pole?

"You miss my point. My point isn't that Bush is or is not a competent President. My point is that to some people like Madden, it doesn't matter what Bush does or doesn't do he is just automatically wrong."

What, exactly, are those right things that Mr. Bush did that Madden found to be wrong?

It's actually fairly hard to come up with one substantial accomplishment of Mr. Bush's presidency. I've put this question to Republicans at times and their answers are invariably political things like "Appointing conservative judges to the Supreme Court".

You're grasping at straws here, anyway. This article is about Bush's final failure, paralyzed like a deer in the headlights while the country's economy collapses. Quibbling about other unidentified articles this writer could conceivably have written is no rebuttal whatsoever.

The issue of the legitimacy of Obama to be President should be a concern of all: liberals and conservatives.

Debdenfan,

The media is not touching the issue of Obama’s birth certificate because of self interest.

The liberal media because Obama is their baby, Obama was made by the media and they do not want to destroy their own creation while at the same time are horrified that Obama might prove to be ineligible after all and they would lose their credibility for sponsoring and ineligible candidate.

The conservative media is ignoring the issue because they do not want to be found on the wrong side if Obama’s ‘vault birth certificate’ proves him to be a ‘natural born’ citizen. They would be accused of racism and of everything.

The media is proving to be not at the service of the people but at their own service, both liberal and conservative.

The issue of the legitimacy of Obama to be President should be a concern of all: liberals and conservatives.

Jan 20th used to be March 5th

Can you imagine 4 months between election day and taking office? It used to be that way until FDR (I think). In fact, Hoover screwed things up even more until FDR finally took office in 1933.

Could it be that they know the whole thing's ridiculous and don't want to seem like idiots? Occam's Razor and all that?

The issue of the legitimacy of Obama to be President should be a concern only to the mentally ill.

I've read a lot of the "evidence" that has been presented on this topic - it's madness.

Most of it seems to rest on proving the scanned document we've seen is a fake because the mechanically printed lines in it don't line up to the pixel. Considering the birth certificate was printed almost 50 years ago with a mechanical typewriter and then scanned, I'm surprised the lines even line up to within a couple of pixels. Neither my birth certificate nor others I have seen have text that's completely straight.

If you have any actual evidence, please present it, otherwise stop.

Obama could be ‘legally’ a citizen of Hawaii and at the same time not being a ‘natural born citizen’

TomRitchford said:

“Could it be that they know the whole thing's ridiculous and don't want to seem like idiots? Occam's Razor and all that?”

But then why the media has not said that plainly? I guess that thy have not said it because they do not have seen the ‘vault birth certificate’.

And remember that Hawaii allowed for foreign born children to be registered as born in Hawaii in certain circumstances. Therefore there is the possibility that Obama is ‘legally’ a citizen of Hawaii and at the same time not being a ‘natural born citizen’ as required by the Constitution to be President.

Obama has not published his “vault birth certificate”.

Is he not fueling the whole controversy by not doing it?

Wednesday, November 26, 2008 01:34 PM

There is a ‘vault birth certificate’ that would clarify the matter but Obama does not want to publish it.

TomRitchford,

The certificate provided by Obama is not a fake according to Hawaii and that is not the issue.

The issue is that Obama could be ‘legally’ a citizen of Hawaii and at the same time not being a ‘natural born citizen’ because Hawaii allowed for foreign born children to be registered as Hawaii born.

There is a ‘vault birth certificate’ that would clarify the matter but Obama does not want to publish it.

Welcome Mr. President

So, eight years of the wildest, craziest party we've ever seen, and now its over.

The lights are turned on, the music turned off, everyone leaves in their limos,

and the black guy gets to clean up the mess.

Good Luck, Mr. President, you'll need it.

All Americans should sign it to prevent something that could create a constitutional crisis that could paralyze the political process.

TCB=Taking Care of Business

For those unfamiliar with Mo-Town, "Taking Care of Business" is a Golden Oldie that every ought to listen to, because that is what Obama is doing. I might also add that having spent a lifetime teaching in the inner city, "taking care of business" is one of those African-American values that gets little press play. Obama has a daunting task ahead of him. As Anonyme suggested in an earlier entry, Bush can still do an incredible amount of damage in the time that he has left and that seems to be # 1 on his agenda. For everything that goes wrong, the right wing pundits are already ready to blame Obama - even though he is not officially the president.

I liked Chernobyl Kid's suggest. First Dick Cheney (Better: charge him with war crimes.) Then appoint Obama as VP. Third, Bush could resign - or better, get impeached, jailed, or tried for war crimes. However, I don't think that's going to happen.

I applaud Obama for choosing the best course possible under the circumstances. He needs to hold as many press conferences as necessary to reassure the nation. He needs to have his act ready, bills ready to sign, and a list of Bush's executive decisions that he can repeal the instant he finishes his inaugeration speech. He needs our support.

I'd throw in two suggestions. Abolish the filibuster, so that a bunch of vengeance-prone spoiled-sport Reopublicans do no block Obama's plans - or opt for some nuclear option plan which will circumvent the endless morass that is the US Senate. Secondly, the super rich who brought us the current disaster need to pay for the damage they've inflicted. We need to abolish all the tax breaks that the wealthy have enjoyed these past few years and impose a hefty surtax on the top 2 or 3 %. They need to face the consequences of their irresponsible actions.
