Is Obama president yet?

And who's that other guy in the White House? As George Bush continues his vanishing act, Barack Obama steps into the spotlight, two months early, to calm a jittery nation.

    TCB=Taking Care of Business

    For those unfamiliar with Mo-Town, "Taking Care of Business" is a Golden Oldie that every ought to listen to, because that is what Obama is doing. I might also add that having spent a lifetime teaching in the inner city, "taking care of business" is one of those African-American values that gets little press play. Obama has a daunting task ahead of him. As Anonyme suggested in an earlier entry, Bush can still do an incredible amount of damage in the time that he has left and that seems to be # 1 on his agenda. For everything that goes wrong, the right wing pundits are already ready to blame Obama - even though he is not officially the president.

    I liked Chernobyl Kid's suggest. First Dick Cheney (Better: charge him with war crimes.) Then appoint Obama as VP. Third, Bush could resign - or better, get impeached, jailed, or tried for war crimes. However, I don't think that's going to happen.

    I applaud Obama for choosing the best course possible under the circumstances. He needs to hold as many press conferences as necessary to reassure the nation. He needs to have his act ready, bills ready to sign, and a list of Bush's executive decisions that he can repeal the instant he finishes his inaugeration speech. He needs our support.

    I'd throw in two suggestions. Abolish the filibuster, so that a bunch of vengeance-prone spoiled-sport Reopublicans do no block Obama's plans - or opt for some nuclear option plan which will circumvent the endless morass that is the US Senate. Secondly, the super rich who brought us the current disaster need to pay for the damage they've inflicted. We need to abolish all the tax breaks that the wealthy have enjoyed these past few years and impose a hefty surtax on the top 2 or 3 %. They need to face the consequences of their irresponsible actions.
