Is Obama president yet?

And who's that other guy in the White House? As George Bush continues his vanishing act, Barack Obama steps into the spotlight, two months early, to calm a jittery nation.

I see the silly sign, the preening, the glum suits

Yes, we have been treated to several orgies of gravitas from our President-Elect, but I am not brimming with hopeychangey. Apparently, he has selected a Scapegoat of State to take the fall for not getting out of Iraq (is calling in the generals still the plan for his first day?). He has alerted the markets to Geithner, who is already doing what he is doing that is or isn't helping. He has told us rebuilding a world economic system and a manufacturing base in the US won't happen fast--so now we know. This AM, I read all the powers that be have cranked up the loans, bailouts, and obligations (guarantees) to $8 TRILLION. When I went to bed, it was the $750 BILLION, plus another $800 billion Paulson got somehow the other day, the $300 Billion for Citi, etc. I am losing track--but now it's eight BIG ONES! This doesn't even count the public works WPA stuff the PE is bandying. So...is he president yet? No. But too close. ANd could we not suspend the Constitution and put him in now? Could we at least not do that?
