He may have been called a socialist, Marxist, the most liberal member of the Senate, but I don't remember anyone calling him an Ambitious Opportunist and Chicago Political Hack.....which he is turning out to be.
Surrounding himself with the "experienced" hack Clintonistas, and now Robert Rubin! This is the guy that buried Citi.
So far this man has not offered any positive change.
Barack will set the direction that his appointments will march towards. He needs the veterans to get the work completed effectively....everyody can't be new ~ it'd take forever for them to get up to speed to get anything done!
Naw...have the faith of a mustard seed here, my friends. Barack knows exactly what he's doing. And he's pragmatic enough to get the job done. Let's spend any negative energies second-guessing what damage Bush & Paulson can be doing in the next two months, and have confidence in the guy we overwhelmingly elected!
Can't we please call a moratorium on this kind of nit-picking? I'd swear we were back in the primaries again, in the thick of what Elizabeth Drew, writing in the New York Review of Books, so aptly termed "molehill politics." Obama's political instincts have always been centrist--a very admirable posture for one preparing to lead the country at a time when national unity will be essential. The American left, such as it is, has no more of a coherent ideology than the right, still less a program to go with it. Besides, haven't we just seen what harm results from eight years of putting ideology before ability? Let Obama choose his team and let's see what that team can do!
What is absolutely consistent in the Democratic party and the gullibility of the voting cattle who love it, is the firm corporate slant this party has attained. The only solution is to keep as much pressure on Obama as possible.
Right now, with the possible exception of Holder, they are all business-as-usual people. I am stunned by how many letters basically say we just need 'intelligent' and 'competent' people. Hiring the best technocrat available, a so-called 'objective' judgment, still does not say anything about their politics. The letter writers want to disappear politics, actually. But, of course, every technocrat has his politics. A pathetic response.

Clinton ignored the labor movement, the environment and the economy, all the while smiling in our faces. I do not welcome a repeat of the past.

I will be a good boy and withhold my outrage for a few more months - tops, but people who really want change (and yes, we do need it) need to be outspoken and be applying the heat. Due to our toothless prostitute called the mainstream media being incapable of "watchdogging" anything except their own paycheck and feeble job security, the public will remain in a state of ignorant bliss. Tim Geitner was going to be the new head of treasury regardless who won the presidency because the selection was never the President's to make. In case people hadn't figured this out yet, the President of the United States is not the most powerful man in the world. He works for the internation banking community best defined as Rockefeller's G-30 group. They call the big shots not the president.
I hate to say it because I voted for him too, but Obama is a mouthpiece just like Clinton and both Bushes were. Change will only come from the street level upward. Other than guys like Ron Paul and Dennis Kucinich, there is no one in DC who will even speak of what really needs to be done. I think Obama is a smooth talking car salesman but I guess time will tell.
I hate to say I told you so, naw, I knew I was going to say it. Now, maybe you guys will go back and look at his voting record. Just wait Liberals/Progressives, its going to get even more interesting. You guys remind me of Lando Calrissian: "But we had a deal!.." - Obama's altering the deal, pray he does'nt alter it any further - ha-ha. Or maybe you guys are more like that cat in the cartoon, who thinks he caught the mouse in a box. When he opens it, a rocket shoots up in the air and sky-writes the word "Sucker" in big, firey letters.
Politicians are'nt going to save you, you have to take charge of the government, get informed and hold people accountable. I know we had no choice but to vote for this guy instead of the zombie but thats no excuse to lay back and relax now. Don't be like that cat.
Obama's not even President yet so not sure why there's over reaction on either side. Obama is naming his cabinet early because the economic situation warrants it. He only has two administrations of experience to cherry pick from - Carter and Clinton. Since most from the Carter administration are in their retirement years it makes sense Obama would pick/need some experienced people - from a SUCCESSFUL administration. I think Obama is the change - not the people he surrounds himself with. For every Clintonite there's someone from Emily's list or the University of Berkley on his team. Obama has a huge undertaking both domestically and abroad -- I'm glad he's focused on that and not worrying about nitpicking political skirmishes that mean nothing. While part of me wanted Lieberman to get his comeuppance I'm glad Obama and others took the high road and moved on - otherwise attention would continue to focus on Lieberman, what they did, what will he do - who cares - he's one vote out of many.
The proof of change will be after Obama is in place and starts implementing his policies - until then it's all supposition and while I understand political pundits need to make a living I think it's premature to gauge how Obama is doing as President before he's even sworn in. . .
