"What we thought we were doing was to raise a screaming alarm -- to try to wake up anybody who was still sleepwalking to the reality of what was going on in our name..."
Oh yeah, narcisism was alive and well back in 1968, wasn't it?
I mean, just because everyone wasn't jumping up and down plotting which hometown buildings to bomb doesn't mean they were not acutely aware of the situation. And THAT was the mistake the drug freaks made in their own self-induced comas.
THEY couldn't accept the fact that everyone else in America wouldn't follow them off the cliff like lemmings. These special elites were too smug and arrogant, thinking that the rest of America was just a bunch of hillbillies in small towns, clinging to guns and religion and being bitter.
Hey, bucko, got news for you. And you missed the Memo back in the days: We all despised the war. We were just not going to let anarchy run the streets with more violence.
What you did not, and could not, know at that time was how Nixon cut a deal with South Vietnam's U.S.-installed President to stay way from the Peace talks arranged by LBJ, and hold off on "peace" until after Nixon was elected. Nixon was the pathological Republican who never met a boogie man he didn't want to use to gain and keep power. It would be the way Republicans would do politics in America for the next 30-some years. He had no problem with thousands of additional U.S. troops dying for nothing - just like W. Bush.
And you're a Republican these days, eh? lol I'll bet cha' that if Sarah knew that, she wouldn't have taken those cheap shots at ya.
Who in their right mind would bomb the Pentagon? And who in their right mind would be a Republican? Case closed.
