I watched Fox News for five hours last night

As Obama's victory became undeniable, Brit Hume moved beyond grief and anger with Karl Rove. And Juan Williams justified his existence.

The letters thread is now closed.

@ grim

er...his fat??

How does Rove stay afloat?

Shit has a high bouyancy factor. He's got plenty of it.

...perhaps we can secure 100 years of Democratic rule

Better to concentrate on the next 4; the real work is still well ahead of us.

The Schadenfreude Network

I watched the local Fox affiliate - it was almost as joyous as FNC. The look on the anchordork's face when he said, "Well, it looks like Americans have elected Barack Obama" was absolutely pricesless.

You know, there would have been absolutely no living with the Republicans if they'd won this time. Thank whatever supreme being you believe in that didn't happen.

David Gergen the best commentator

I flipped from channel to channel, as time and commercials permitted. I saw little bits of several channels, including both C-SPANs and Fox "News". Fox was easily the worst, pandering to "McCain advisors" (or whatever). They complained about Fox calling Ohio for Obama... and this was a big story for almost an hour: Not that Obama won Ohio, but that McCain's people whined. No other network mentioned this, nor should they have.

Of the people I saw, David Gergen (on CNN) was the best. Calm and articulate and (pay attention now) correct. On a night that went more-or-less how it has been playing out since the Biden/Palin debate, Gergen offered useful commentary on what was actually happening.

CNN was more mediocre than usual. For all the fun toys, John King was more of a distraction than an illuminator. He kept saying "well, IF this happens, let's put this state in the red column...". But I digress.

Now, we have to worry about Bush stealing the US in the next 2 1/2 months. I predict Obama's first term will be spent cleaning up the mess of the conservatives.

Obama says thanks for the godawful mess you've handed me

I've thought for a while that the Republicans' heart wasn't really in it this time. I think even they have realized what an absolute disaster their rule has been and how they are completely unable to do anything about it. How did McCain even get the nod? Even more so, how did Palin get selected? It's almost as if they wanted to lose. They hand the Democrats an ungodly mess and are able to stand on the sidelines doing what they do best, which is snipe, attack, destroy, and second guess every attempt to do something about it. Even so, I'm glad the Democrats won. Obama's a thinking man who is not afraid to try something new and he's not really beholden to any ideological strait-jacket. Good luck, Barack, you will need it.

His kind know how to survive, shedding skin or being one of the scariest deadliest creature alive

I cannot fathom how Karl Rove can keep himself gainfully employed.

It's because he 's a sort of reptile. A snake or a crocodile. Or both.

@ Grim

I cannot fathom how Karl Rove can keep himself gainfully employed.

We still see Newtie Gingrich and Tommy Delay pontificating on teevee, don't we? I laughed at Karl's effort to reinvent himself as an impartial talking head. Karl can go screw himself. If he thinks that anyone except his wingnut base is going to pay any attention to him, he is delusional.

I watched some Fox Noise last night, and I thought Fred Barnes seemed to be in a mini-meltdown. Suck it up, Freddy. Your time has come and gone.

The Cable Channels do not care who is President

They care about the hand that feeds them.

Wednesday, November 5, 2008 05:31 AM

Fox TV etc

It really was the sweetest revenge last night---watching the election returns on Fox. What a buncha long faces. Gave me great joy to witness.

To President-Elect Obama: You have been handed large pile of manure by this nation. I don't expect you to be able to shovel all of it off immediately. Please just do your best. I know you're going to get tired and frustrated at times. Take a deep breath and keep slogging. Our daily prayers are with you.

Did anyone notice FOX News advertising on CNN?

At least where I live (Manhattan, Time Warner Cable) Fox News ran adds for Fox News on CNN multiple times through the night! How does that happen? Did CNN just want the money or was this some local thing Time Warner Cable put in?

Andrew, you have a MUCH stronger stomach than me...

thanks so much for sitting through "Faux News" for as long as you did...personally, five SECONDS of those yelling heads gives me a splitting headache.

And let us lefties not drink TOO deeply from the fountain of Schdenfreude; while we're up now, we're sure to be back down at some point in the not too distant future...if we're graceful in our triumphs as well as our defeats, well, it just shows 'em who's got the class.

HOW WILL WE SURVIVE

I feel sorry for Faux News, Hannity and Rush Limpballs - nothing but whining and crow pie for eight years.

@raise up

Always good to see one of your posts. You make erudition fun.

Fox, who knows? If you believe most of these network pundits are driven as much by the parlor game aspect as by their true convictions, they might actually enjoy the freedom of having to defend another four years of Bush -- that is, they get to rabble-rouse from the position of the dispossessed and gripe about "that one" and a godless society intent on turning their children into homosexuals or urban thugs. Conversely, it will be interesting to see what Olbermann's show looks like in four or five months. No Bush, no Cheney, no McCain, no Palin, etc. There goes half of his show. Who's the stand-in target for his "How dare you, sir" commentaries? Mitch McConnell?

Oh well. A good problem to have.

card check - boring and scary

I'm a left-center, Obama-voting union member and I HATE the idea of card check. Basically, it will allow unions to form without balloting and it will put small-medium businesses out of business. People really DO need to learn about this, fast. It is not just a FNC canard. or boogey-man.

@tantrum

Welcome to Salon. Nice first post. Nice screen-name too- one of the most honest I've seen, actually.

Anxiously awaiting future Pearls of Wisdom.

Andrew got the short straw!

Your headline says it all. Hilarious, but I do feel for you. Meanwhile, my friends and I switched around news channels and then went to a bar to watch Obama's speech with an electrified crowd. I'm not going to forget last night any time soon. Your hysterical account on FOX News's "reporting" last night is just icing on the cake.
