I watched Fox News for five hours last night As Obama's victory became undeniable, Brit Hume moved beyond grief and anger with Karl Rove. And Juan Williams justified his existence.

  • I should of watched Fox News

Brilliant! Why didn't I think of that? Oh. Fox is never on my radar screen, that's why. I would buy you a drink/coffee to bring you down - if I knew you. God Bless.

  • More than meets the eye.

There’s a lot going on here, Andrew. IMHO Karl Rove is trying mighty hard to reinvent himself. A hopeless task. Billy Kristol is trying to cover his ass as he was one of the main cheerleaders for the Sarah Palin (and oh how Neiman Marcus is going to miss her) debacle.

But more important is the threat to Fox and Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch became an American citizen solely so that he could own television stations in this country. His heart seems to be with some sort of New World Media Order with him as chief propagandist. I don’t consider him a patriot. It is quite possible that a new Fairness Doctrine will be put on the table, and that would have Murdoch soiling himself, certainly. It would be really nice to see the Murdoch News Corp (and others) brought under strict regulation, even to the point of forcing him (or them) to sell off assets. He knows this and you watch as Fox drifts inexorably toward the center. You will see a lot less name calling and a lot more *fair and balanced* reports but we can never forget that under it all is a fascist who needs to be displaced or replaced. I’ve already started hounding my representatives to put a new Fairness Doctrine into play. One with teeth!

  • filibuster

I watched Fox for awhile also. I don't normally do this; however, I just wanted to observe what they were saying.

While I watched, the big issue and their big fear, was the Senate, and whether the Republicans would retain the power to filibuster. Latest count indicates the Republicans won that one, at least for the next 2 years.

It will be interesting to observe what the new Congress will in fact be able to change given the past uncompromising nature demonstrated by the hard core right Senators. It is this (Republican) failure to work across the aisle that has in large part given Congress the negative approval rating it now receives, although many citizens just blame 'Congress'.

Hopefully public pressure will influence these characters. If not, Obama may not be able to accomplish much of the promised change until more of the right is thrown out in 2010.

  • S'matter, did I hurt your feelings?

No, I Didn't Get the Memo

No, I didn't get the memo that I was irrelevant.

    >> Doesn't make it any less so.

Hey, didn't your fearless leader Obama say that he was going to be INCLUSIVE of ALL Americans, and there were no longer red states and blue states but the United States?

Apparently YOU didn't get THAT memo.

    >> Yes, he did. And he will. But I am not Obama. I lead no one, and am beholden to no one. Obama's a much better man than I, I'll give him that.

    >>Look, if you come here for the sole purpose of raining on our parade, and if you have nothing more to offer than sour grapes-without even a hint of humility, a desire to suck it up and work for the good of everyone, then all I have to say to you is,

    Fuck You.

    F-U-C-K Y-O-U.

    Sincerely.

Obama has also stated clearly that he does NOT like "yes men" who just parrot his every opinion. There is little value to him in merely hearing his own opinions echoed back to him.

    >>I don't like Yes Men either. I'll tell you what else I don't like. Whiny sore losers. Come in here to spew shit, and then go crying to mommy when you get your nose bloodied? Sickening.

And by the way, didn't you get the memo that the war (or election) is over? Or do you just want to be The New Bush and arrogantly walk all over anybody who disagrees with you?

    >>This isn't about disagreement. It is about slapping around assholes like you who come with no ideas, and no desire to be helpful.

    >>I would personally welcome a strong, thoughtful opposition party. Perhaps true conservatives in the mold of W.F Buckley to be a valuable counterweight to an Obama administration. But we won't see that for a long time. I have many highly intelligent friends who are on the political right. We have enjoyable and spirited conversations. It's an easy thing to do with anyone who is intellectally honest.

    >>The GOP, which richley earned their kopfgewaschung this year, is little more than a rag-tag collection of small little people who are only interested in the advancement of fascism, and who can do no better than endlessly fear-monger.

  • Wow! -- Bellatrix LeStrange

I don’t have to get along with you at all! Your posts are interesting in the way that a car wreck is, but I don’t have to have anything else to do with you. Certainly your tainted views are yours and you have the right to post them here. I, however, have the right to chuckle and move on. Your next eight years are going to be a nightmare.

  • Where do they get this "center-right nation" fantasy?

I just don't get it. In this election, by the choices made at the polls, Americans have demonstrated support for progressive causes such as environmental and wildlife protection, more humane practices in factory farming, increased regulations in the runaway financial industry among others, a more nuanced and reasoned approach to the immigration issue- the list goes on and on. So where do they see evidence of a "center-right nation?" Here's a news flash for Hume and company: the political views of Fox viewers do not necessarily reflect those of all the rest of us, and contrary to popular GOP opinion, we *are* all "real Americans." Perhaps it is time for the Fox talking heads to reacquaint themselves with the rest of this country; listen to NPR, talk to Americans whose TV sets spend time on channels other than Fox. With the election of Obama and the increases in the Democratic majorities in Congress, this fantasy of the "center-right nation" has been discredited as nothing but right wing wishful thinking, thank God.
