Yes, this is the happiest I've been about the prospects for my country in eight years. Yes, it's WONDERFUL to see the forces of bigotry and divisive politics put in their proper place (down, down, down).
That having been admitted, I'm tired of ugliness in general. I'm following President-Elect Obama's lead and I'm not going to trash those who oppose/have opposed us.
They will see: Ayers will not be Chief-of-Staff, Wright will not be the head of FEMA, Obama will not put minarets on the White House, Obama will be sworn-in on a Bible which will not burst into flames, their paychecks will not be suddenly subsumed by the new Socialist regime, Iran will not nuke us or Israel, Israel will be supported rather than cease to exist, Obama will not cede Florida to Cuba OR make Cuba the fifty-first state, African-Americans will not "take over" (i.e. take something away from whites or harm, belittle, or diminish us in some way), when the next international or national crisis comes it will be weathered, Khalid Rashidi will not be Secretary of State, the coal industry will not be driven into bankruptcy, Pelosi, Reid, and Obama will not join together to declare a liberal totalitarian state... and so many of the other dire (and frankly idiotic) predictions about the destruction an Obama presidency would cause will not come to fruition. That will be the best repudiation of all and the greatest joy in this victory.
I'm ready to heal. I'm ready to say to those who oppose that we can find some acceptable middle ground. I'm willing to forgive and (cautiously) forget (while maintaining the lessons learned). It is a new era, and the high ground is up here, with room for all. Eight years was enough. phew. Can we finally dig in and get some sh*t done????!!!???
