Please, please don't discount a really big issue just because you don't understand it. Last night brought tears to my eyes -- we did something right as a nation and something to be pround of. Just because we love Obama does not mean that card check is a good idea. And, make no mistake, its a really, really big deal. Right now, establishing a union requires an election where workers can vote as to whether they want the union to represent them. The NLRB makse sure that elections are fair. Card check requires nothing more than union organizers get worker signatures on a card. Any unit of workers can be organized. Consequently, all an organizer needs to do is get a majority of workers in a unit to sign cards. Card signature drives are not anonomous. Tremendous pressure can be placed on individuals to sign cards. No protections of a secret ballot exist. Labor's current proposal will change how we consider work and unions, but there is no discussion whatso ever and people just dismiss the issue because they don't understand it and don't think its a big deal. On this one, Fred Barnes is right -- it is a big deal.
