Sundown on Colorado fundamentalists

A Sunday visit to the megachurch that praised George W. Bush suggests that its political end of days is near.

The letters thread is now closed.

@!stuartbrown

Thank you!

I can't take credit for the comments re: abortion--I was saying "ditto, ditto, and how" to poster "lateagain." But as for Rev. Wright, you and I are on the same page for sure. A pastor's whole life bludgeoned to a sound byte. If the right bothered to search even a tiny bit farther, they'd find some good stuff going on.

Frightening stuff

It's the sheer irrationality of some of these people's beliefs that scares me.

We all have our own views about particular issues and they will differ widely, but the utter bone-headed ignorance shown by some people is frightening. Do they really believe that Obama is a socialist/Muslim/terrorist bent on America's destruction, or are they just frightened people watching the world move on without them?

I know there will always be people like that and your reaction should just be to sigh and move on in the expectation that they are in the minority and the pragmatism and common sense of your leaders will prevail. But then George W. Bush comes along and, lo, you have bone-headed ignorance at the very top of the tree as well.

Never again. Please.

Wrong candidate

McCain wasn't the candidate that the church crowd was going for. Now once upon a time, George H.W.Bush was able to survive Pat Buchanan and Pat Robertson, even though he wasn't a poser like his son. But now, the faithful aren't willing to play along with someone like McCain who had dared insult people like Pat Robertson and Jerry Falwell. Now if Sarah Palin wants to try her hand at leading the sheep, maybe you'd see more enthusiasm, but four years is a long time in politics.

Born in a little town, called Bethelmen.

He was born to be the king of men.

He rose up in the sky for all to see.

He's the savior for you and me.

ATTENTION PSEUDO CHRISTIAN CONS

FYI-

ABORTION: According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, during the Clinton years, the abortion rate fell by about 27 percent. A new independent study by an ethics professor at Fuller Theological Seminary finds that today, "contrary to popular assumption, abortion has risen in the U.S. during George W. Bush's presidency."

http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/01/31/sot...heck/index.html

A 2004 study by the Fuller Theological Seminary -- a leading Evangelical Christian divinity school -- showed that a decade long decline in abortion rates in the U.S. during President Clinton's administration has reversed. Glen Stassen, the Lewis B. Smedes Professor of Christian Ethics found that, under President Bush, rising unemployment and soaring healthcare costs have increased the abortion rate. He noted that "economic policy and abortion are not separate issues. They form one moral imperative." Stassen analyzed data from Minnesota Citizens Concerned for Life, the Guttmacher Institute, and annual reports by individual state governments. He found that abortion rates declined 17.4% during the 1990s and reached a 24-year low when President Bush took office. "We Hold These Truths" reported that "Many expected that downward trend to continue under the conservative president, but Stassen found the opposite: 52,000 more abortions occurred in 2002 than would have been expected under the pre-2000 conditions, and abortion has risen significantly in those states reporting multi-year abortion statistics."

Religious fanaticism

It always seems to come to light that religious groups like this that the "leader" (or original leader) gets involved in something that eventually leads to his (or her) downfall or demise. Then they come back and say the devil made me do it, no dumbass the devil might have been in the details, however you made the decision to go down that road.

As far as churches like this all but telling its members how to vote is no suprise as I have goen to many churches that tell its members how or what to vote on. Doing that flies in the face of their tax exempt status and as such they should have their tax status revoked for at least 5 years every time they mention something like this. They want teh government to stay out of the church and yet they want to tell you how to vote. It doesn't work that way.

These idiots that believe everything that the republicans tell them to is sad. I feel sad for these people because they are voting against their own self interests. As I heard somewhere before people like this are from a country known as Dumbfuckistan.....so go ahead and vote for John six pack and Sarah wine box and see how fast you get to have a cold brew or glass of wine with them.

Obamabot Propaganda Central: the Saloon 24/7 Noise Machine?

You'd think that, after so many years of Bush and high Republican numbers in Congress, that every Family Planning clinic would be shuttered by now.

If our markets have not yet helped you worry about some real looming problems, try to think for yourselves for just a minute.

Recently Canada tried to force unionization on Walmart, and Walmart decided to leave Canada.

Do you really want to disallow free trade? Do you like the prospect of trade wars like we had in the 30's? Do you want John Deere, Boeing, Apple, Cummings Engine, Pfizer, Caterpiller and Proctor & Gamble to have to cut back and fire hundreds of thousands of workers because we have no international markets left? Do you think the Chicago Democratic Machine would do a better job of running these companies? Do you want corrupt unions running our corporations?

Small businessmen are responsible for more new jobs than all the big corporations put together and Democrats are planning to punish the most successful. That would be great for prosperity and employment, right?

But, you folks are precious. Just keep obsessing about abortion, ladies.

Abortion rights is the most important thing in the world.

a muslim country

So what happens if Obama gets elected and time goes by and the U.S. DOESN'T turn into a Muslim country? Does that mean these people will admit they were wrong?

Why do I have the feeling the answer is no?
