  • Fundamentalism against religion and democracy

    Americans must realize something :

GWB never acted as a POTUS for the good of his country,

GWB never acted as a Republican for the good of his party,

GWB always acted as a fundamentalist for the good of fundamentalism.

Therefore, his presidency was a huge success worldwide, and in particular in the Middle East (fundamentalists stronger than ever in Israel and the Muslim world... not to mention Europe and the US).

It's time for the US to declare their independance from fundamentalism.

For the good of democracy, for the good of sound, respectful religion.

  • Tired of Robertson, Haggard, Hagee, Treat, Falwell (TGHID) and other TV Thieves

This is in response to Not Blind's Fundamentalism. I am refreshed by you and a few other writers on Salon. The zealot Christian born again crowd has re-defined the true meaning of love. It is time to cry foul.

God is not against equality, fairness, civil rights and freedom! Your comments reflect the true meaning of compassion and understanding.

The Republicans have been slutting with the born-agains for the sake of money. No more please.

Does anyone else feel this way? Are you tired of Jerry Falwell, Ted Haggard, Pat Robertson, Ken Hagee, and that whole crowd of look-a-likes dictating public policy? They mock God in the name of God.

Those men serve money. I hope Obama doesn't sell out to the money-changers. Please let me know what you think.

  • Can Anyone Say "Separation of Church and State"?

The proposed law is unconstitutional. The fact that Bush/Cheney have trampled on the Constitution doesn't change that fact. NO one, including science, has a real understanding of what life really is, or where it begins or ends. It is essentially a matter of faith-and different faiths have different beliefs regarding the beginning and ending of life. The Constitution guarantees religous freedom-which means no one faith is allowed to be forced on another.

The GOP is not concerned about faith-they are using the religous right to manipulate the public. Check out the following:

This is the group that are running the McCain/Palin campaign. Read it and weep.

  • Fanatics Wreck Their Churches Every Time

Who can be surprised by this? Crackpot churches are forever shooting themselves in their theological feet.

Consider the scandals and weird beliefs of the following 'pastors': Earl Paulk, Paul Crouch, Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, Benny Hinn, Richard Roberts, Oral Roberts, Peter Popoff, Billy James Hargis, Tony Leyva, Warren Jeffs, Max Lucado, Robert Tilton, Pat Robertson, Kenneth Copeland, Creflo Dollar, John Hagee, Coy Privatte, Lonnie Latham, Roy Long, Jeff Hannah, Mark Mangrum, Steven Haney, Howard Blattel, Gary Aldridge, Leonard Frazier, Joe Baron -- and, of course, the special friend of male prostitutes, 'Rev' Ted Haggard.

How difficult is it to see a pattern here?

These religious lunatics give Elmer Gantry a bad name. Eventually, but never soon enough, their avarice, greed and absurdity bring them down. New Life Church is just one more disaster zone. Another is waiting in the wings, attending on the next Great Leader. Ludicrous.

  • I think I know what the best answer is for this to bring about that " sundown" even quicker.

it is high time that we stopped these big mega churches from interfering in everybody's lives whom does not give a shit for their so called " moral values" by living up to our US constitution calling for true separation of church and state!

I say that we allow for the taxing of all churches[ and mosques, whatever] that have more then 500 seats in them! as they really are little more then BUSINESSES making their money " from the goodness of the lord." [ and the stupidity of his followers!]

  • About Ted Haggard and The Gay Fertility Gene

The sad thing about that, is, if he were allowed to be gay, he might have accomplished some great things for the sake of his community. But no. Gays can't be Christians, and Christians can't be gay. So off into the closet we go. Until we bust out like leaking acid from a poorly cared for battery. Grandma says that gays keep getting born, and they are people. New gays are born and they are people. So, people should be treated equally because, they, are, people.

Can't the church get it into their heads that this is biology? The French study on fertility suggests that the gay gene is actually a fertility gene that is passed down from DNA to BOTH sexes to insure its survival. That would explain androgeny and sexual attraction. Gayness is not a moral issue. It is part of how DNA is constantly encoding traits for survival of the species.

When we see a recurring trait in the DNA pool, we know that the trait must be important to the survival of the gene pool. God wasn't an idiot. Love triumphs in the spirit, and in the gene pool.

  • Ryan vs. Maurice On the Matter of Taxing Churches

The last comment on taxing churches is spot on. They are big business and they make their money off of the "Lord's Work." However they make it, they make it. It is big money.

I only wish that I had a seared conscience because I could get up there and preach with the best of them. And rake, I mean, and rake, in, the cash.

But alas, I fear that my hypocrisy would be my unpinning. God always dings me. Ryan wouldn't preach either because he doesn't think you should profit off of religion.

So, it isn't religion after all: It is Big Business. Ryan says that government should not be involved at all with churches, including removing them from taxation. I say, if they use religion as a cloak, they should be taxed.

Ryan says that people's spirits will be "taxed". The people giving money are already taxed. I say, wolves in sheeps clothing should be exposed and properly taxed!

Ryan says, "Why Grandma, what big teeth you have!"

    Maurice said, "Good night everybody!"

  • Why Do Christians And Others Need Make themselves the victims?

The idea that Christians will not be strong a political force in utterly ridiculous. Because they are failing to force a few select issues on every one else? The idea that the US could become a Muslim country is equally ridiculous. In over two centuries Christians have been unable to make the US a truly Christian country. In the event of an Obama win, are all the Christians leaving, and those remaining converting to the Muslim faith? What this article reports, and some of the comments made, reflect that those who have so much can't recognise what they have. I'd rather have had better choices, but I can't see myself voting for an old man that appears to be entering senility, and Caribou Barbie, who may or may not be a feminazi. While I don't fear an Obama win, I don't expect much. The problems within the USA are too big,too complex, and too many.
