  • Error in article

The phrase "water baptism" is redundant; no such term exists in popular or theological discourse.

I suspect Mike Madden meant "full-immersion baptism," in which the person being bapized is fully immersed in water (as opposed to the person having water sprinkled on them). Though not synonymous with "full-immersion," I suspect that the phrase "believers' baptism" probably could have applied as well, since I strongly suspect New Life does not practice the baptism of infants.

Additionally, it would have been more accurate to write that the prayer session was going to double for a "service of baptisms for new members" (instead of "a water baptism for new members") so as not to imply that all members were being baptized, in one way or another (but by definition with water), en masse.

Perhaps you'd like to enlighten us wicked liberals, how is it you people can claim to beleive in less government while trying to ban everything your religion doesn't like? You see, I can't quite get your "brothers and sisters in Christ" to answer this question. Guess they don't know how to handle idiological contradictions.

  • It's all about the money of course!

They are afraid they are going to loose all those funds from the government! Let's hope that happens. Vote, vote, vote!

  • The poisoning of our Armed Forces in Colorado Springs among their worse blasphemies and heresy..

Rev. Dobson and these other zealots of Colorado Springs have committed one of the worst acts in the annals of America's military history...

That being spreading dissension among our Forces especially at the Air Force Academy based upon religious orientation belief and or the lack thereof..!

Equally disgraceful was the failure to respond properly and immediately by our poor excuse of a Commander in Chief, who should have appeared there immediately and put an end to this abomination and pernicious trend within one of if not America's finest military school and establishment..

None other than George Washington dealt with this without equivocation when faced with General Benedict Arnold taking issue with Catholic's celebrating St. Patrick's Day during the Revolution prior to Arnold's betrayal...

That letter to Arnold is must reading, and predates the Constitution and Bill of Rights..

No church or other organization that seeks to be seen as patriotic would ever sow such ignorance and hatred within our armed forces as Rev. Dobson and these blaspheming heretic zealots of Colorado and Colorado Springs especially are guilty of..!

It is still a problem there due to Bush's failure as a Commander in Chief, and also symptomatic of decay and growing blatant incompetency within our Air Force, which according to the Army and Marine Core have also not "pulled it's weight" in the on going war on terror..in Iraq and Afghanistan primarily..

  • Colorado resident

As a Colorado resident, I hope your prediction is true. Although I wonder if we aren't just experiencing the ebb and flow of politics. After the far right swing of the past decade, it makes sense that the left would get the next swing. This seems especially fitting with all the talk of "swing" states.

On a different note, it is still shocking to me the propoganda fundamentalists believe about Barack Obama. It isn't about facts at all. It's about what they want to believe or have to believe in order to keep their narrow world view safe. Fear is their prison.

  • @bigguns

don't be bemused. My conceding that this planet would be better balanced without us isn't a happy concession.

I'm not bemused by your professed unhappiness, bigguns. But seeing as in this case, it's entirely nothing more than the result of your own philosophical choice, I'll spare you my commiseration.

What bemuses me is, more generally, the unspoken undertone in ALL of the misanthropic laments of this nature that I've ever heard: "humankind is a pox on the Earth (myself and present company exempted, of course!)"

It's always there- the implicit implication that if only the rest on humankind were as Enlightened as oneself and ones eco-progressive compatriots, everything would have worked out.

In my experience, when delivered in person, such rants are generally followed by a careful perusal of the dessert counter at the coffeehouse, or a flip of the phone to check where the party is, that evening.

    That's what's called being a poser.

I've never observed an emotional cast of genuinely doomstruck misery and self-loathing from anyone who has ever expressed such sentiments. And I've spent a lot of time observing people in mild-to-severe states of emotional distress.

So these days I try to be amused, when the faux eco-misanthropy crops up.

  • So why are they still here?

"This is America -- you don't like it, leave,"

May I suggest that they move to somewhere that is more hospitable to their mindset? How about the Vatican, northern Uganda, Kenya, some of the more intolerant parts of Pakistan, India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, etc. These people seem to be living in a fantasy world and have the same feelings about authoritarian religion as the Muslim fanatics. The only difference I see is the particular name the give their god, and what's in a name, anyhow? They both worship the same being.

  • What's really scary!

What's really scary is that the right wing here in rural bible belt NC are locked and loaded. They are ready to go to war. They only listen to Christian Radio, read Christian newspapers, watch Christian TV (and Fox news), they even have their own publishing houses for Christian fiction and they do not ever listen to the other side.

There is hope. A mom with her middle school son, pulled him away from a poster for Obama and told him you could not vote for Obama and be a Christian. Her son stood up to her and said "Yes you can". I bet he's going to join the rest of the home schooled kids.

  • Defeat the Religious nazis

Get out and vote for Obama and defeat these religious nazis. I researched these people in the early 90s and on one wanted to believe that they would rise to power. They continued to build their forces when Clinton was president and took over many local school boars, local, state, and congressional positions by 1995. James Dobson and Focus on the Family own more radio air waves than any organization in the U.S.

When Obama wins his first act should be to get rid of the Faith Base programs. It will take years to weed out the under educated zeolots within government.

Palin represents these people. These are the angry crowds you saw at the Plain rallies. The religious right movement, is like the rise of nazis in Germany. "socialism', liberal media', 'intellectual elitism' sll terms used by the nazi propaganda machine. They will continue to build their forces and reinforce fear. they will be angry when Obama wins because they are driven by anger.
