A scary Halloween with Sarah Palin In central Pennsylvania, the Republican base is afraid of Obama, and lost in fever dreams of a neo-Soviet nightmare. But it's all in God's hands.

  • Missing the point

I think there is something more subtle going on here: McCain and Palin are trying to make the other side so scary that people vote AGAINST Obama, since there is surely no reason for more than a small group (the 22 percenters that still support Bush) to vote for McCain. How does someone in McCain's position get votes? Not by making an affirmative case for himself, but by scaring people about the other side. That way, people can justity their votes for McCain by declaring that they were against Obama.

    Think about it!

  • The winters are long

I read somewhere that Palin has sought advice on a new type of correctional facility in Alaska. Apparently it’s to be called the Gays Ungodly Liberals Abortionists Greenies re-education facility.

  • What scares me,

Is people like those in the video....low information voters.

Socialism is so 50s McCarthy retro.

I especially found the woman with the baby and fetus bib disgusting and obnoxious. So self righteous when she kisses her baby.

If you don't want these types of people making decisions for you VOTE for OBAMA, CALL YOUR FRIENDs make sure they are VOTING for OBAMA!

  • as Obama said,

in his interview with Rachel Maddow when she asked him why he doesn't criticize the Republican party. He said he can reach out the to most republican, moderate republicans but "the republican party has been kidnapped by an incompetent, ideological driven subset of the party.' YOu see them in this video.

  • bernbart

WAS she really kissing the baby on the head? Or was she sucking nutrients from its brains? I couldn't decide...

  • know what?

Tough. I've had to live under universal republican dominance for 6 of the last eight years. What we got was 2 wars, a skyrocketing debt & a tanking economy. Funny how repulicans never complain about that. If they experience an ounce of the anxiety the Bush government has caused the rest of us that's fine by me. They can chalk it up to god's will.

  • One Thing That Heartens Me

I have not heard or read any reports that say Obama is having to spend money to hold onto states or defend areas where he's favored. In fact, he's spending cash in places like the ones described in the piece - hardcore conservative places that went for Bush.

Of course, this will all be sorted out next week. But it's nice to know this Socialism nonsense doesn't seem to be spreading beyond those who are already inclined to believe it.

  • NO FEAR!

I have seen from a co-worker who expressed fear at SARA PALIN as vice president!I think most people like her don`t understand how the government works.first of all she would be vice president!just attending funerals, and other useless stuff!2nd of all The president can only sign or veto bills sent to his desk!BY A LIBERAL CONGRESS!The president is not a dictator or a king !the liberal media[SALON] is selling OBAMA! The inner-citypeople will swallow it hook line and sinker!BUT MOST OF THEM WILL BE ENJOYING THEMSELVES ON ALCHOHOL AND DRUGS AND WILL HAVE SPENT MOST OF THEIR WELFARE AND FOODSTAMPS BY THE TIME THE ELECTION IS HELD!I call it the catch 22 of politics!

  • OH MY GOD!!!

    just listen to this http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/11/01/masked-avengers-prank-cal_n_140023.html

  • Thy use Perfect Leo Straussian political tacitcs: developed in 1930's Germany

    1. Tell every lie you need to but never admit you lied

    2. Bang the drums of nationalism

    3. Focus the people on an enemy, real or imagined

    4. Use Religion as a tool to keep the masses in line.

Came from the same cesspool as Uncle Milty Friedman's trickle down economic policy. Many of the Neo Cons were his desciples.

Talk about brave Americans, these people are not it. Scared stupid by make believe boogeymen.

Read Mark Twain's last piece, The Mysterious Stranger, and you will meet these people stoning a woman.

  • All Powerful, All Knowing

These people believe in an omniscient, sovereign God. This leads them to give both credit and blame to God in all things, good or evil. If they succeed, it is because God has willed that success, not because they have prepared for or worked for that success. If they fail, God has not allowed them to succeed. Thus, they are free to be abjectly humble in success and monstrously guilty in failure. This is the kind of God my parents believed in. I do not.

  • What is the Joe Vogler Connection all about?

I have heard that Gov Palin and her husband were present when Joe Vogler was killed in a plastic explosives deal gone bad. What is the truth to this? I have heard that Gov Palin's husband is a factor in the Alaska Independence Party.

  • Ummm

Haven't fascists typically won elections by sowing fear of socialists? OTOH, I suppose that communists (who IMHO are really just fascists pretending to be socialists) have typically won elections by sowing fear of bad fascists. Theocratic fascists fall in there somewhere. Bottom line, be afraid of anyone who tells you to fear someone else [;-) And really, this time, how about we vote for our dreams, rather than against our fears?

  • Palin's Trail O' Fear

What bothers me most about Palin? It is her love of scaring people, dividing people. Steeped in the far right fundamentalism of "it's us against them " she loves the power rush of a nasty fight. She bullies, lies and smears with the best of them. She is McCain's alter ego in the guise of an attractive woman. She is on the blind ambition tour bus and if she ends up under it (by her own campaign) it is where she deserves to be. I don't get it when people say they feel sorry for her. No one who ever underestimated her would make that statement. I hold her accountable for what comes out of her mouth on any issue. Scaring frightened people into voting for you is inexcusable.

  • I'd love to hear them eat their own words. Poor, ignorant Americans. If Obama does even half of what he wants to do, those people are going to be very, very confused.

they will never change. There has always been a crowd like this and there always will be. Now it is the gay/abortionist (and black) menace, 50 years ago it was the commie (and black) menace, before that it was the Catholic (and black) menace. The only thing that varies is whether they are in control and able to impede progress or whether the sane parts of the society are exerting influence.
