Say it ain't so, Joe!

Democrats are furious over Joe Lieberman's cheerleading for McCain-Palin. But would punishing the powerful senator be a smart move?

But would punishing the powerful senator be a smart move?

Uh...

about as stupid a question as would you sleep with Robert Redford for a million dollar...(as asked in the film Indecent Proposal)

Yes

Lieberman has effectively switched parties, but kept the Democrats over a barrel by doing it half way. Cut him off at the knees. In the long term, its better to have the line clearly drawn. As things stand now, Lieberman is in the tent, pissing where everybody sleeps and eats. He's a vindictive, hateful man, and if the Democrats let him, he'll keep pissing.

There's something to be said for a show of strength, even if it has short term costs.

There is a thing call party discipline.

It is absolutely necessary to "get things done" in Washington and most modern democracies. And since the repugs, who are at the other extreme end of the party discipline spectrum, have been in power for eight years and controlled congress for decades there is a huge mess for the Democrats to clean up.

Smashing that turncoat's head into the ground is a necessity, not because the most Americans, including myself, would love to see it, but because it sends a message that if you sabotage your party, you pay.

It would send a powerful message to the "blue dog" Democrats that if they want to sell out their country for some repug bucks in the bank they will be sweeping the floors in the capital at night.

This country cannot afford Joeboy or the "blue dogs" any longer.

Off with his ...

The Democrats need to re-circumcise Lieberman, and Conneticut needs to vote him out in 2012. His behavior has been disgraceful.

Monday, October 20, 2008 06:55 PM

It is a more complex question

First, consider the 2010 Senate elections - of the seats that will be up, 19 are held by Republicans and 15 by Democrats. At least 5-6 of the Republicans are vulnerable. That fact alone will color their desire to align themselves with a flailing and disintegrating Republican party. This means that at least some Republicans will not be reliable party line voters.

Second, do not dismiss the possibility that Obama may appoint some Republicans from the Senate to his Cabinet -- at least a few of those seats would be hard for the party to retain with the usual type of candidate it runs these days. Finally, there will also be members looking at 2012 and how they may fair in that election -- one by the way that Lieberman will retire at, since he will not be reelected by Connecticut under any circumstances now.

Don't for get he lost the Democratic nomination for his seat.

The Democratic leadership should strip him of any extra posts he occupies, and get a real Democrat into them. He stopped being a democrat long ago, but made it official when he lost the nomination in his home state, then was elected by mostly Republican votes. No reason to even pretend with this jackass.

Lieberman is awful...

Just awful...

Who cares about seats? Lieberman will always have a seat at Hagee's table.

It won't matter either way the presidential election turns out

If Obama wins, they won't need a veto-proof majority. If McCain wins, they won't be able to count on his BFF Joe anyway even if he does stay in the Senate, which is unlikely. They should cut him loose without fanfare in either case, and we can all smile quietly to ourselves knowing that justice has subtly been served on this egotist.

consider this if the party tables were turned

The GOP would have gutted Lieberman and hung his stinking corpse on a fencepost.

The Democratic Party really is the party of Christ. They forgive, they give the shirt of their backs, and they turn the other cheek. And then to go one step further, they bend over and spread those cheeks wiiiiiiide open.

The low approval rating for Congress reflects that the Republican congresscritters are voting to enable Dear Leader, while the Democratic congresscritters are .. voting to enable Dear Leader.

Maybe, just maybe, after this November the Dems will get some therapy and overcome their spineless, battered-wife syndrome behaviors. Yah right.

Lieberman- traitor to the Democrats

If the Democrats gain enough seats to have their 60 votes without Joe, then kick the bum out! It is disgusting watching him parading around with this anti-semitic witch from the north. If Joe had any sense, he would look into the groups she associates with. Jews for Jesus, "the reason why the Israelis are being killed over there is because they haven't accepted Christ as their savior"; one of my favorite quotes.

He is a disgrace to this party and it is time to show him the door. Not only is he supporting McCain/Palin, but he is going against other Democrats around the country. He is an opportunist and a weasel and does not deserve the 'respect' of his Senate seniority.

Connecticut should recall him.

So...

So, what's wrong with Congress?

Well, they will throw themselves on a hand grenade that contains pork and money but don't have the guts to flick off the Lieberman booger on their finger (or, if you prefer: scrape him off their shoe).

Whether Democrats get a majority or the GOP Vote Fraud™ is successful in stealing yet another election, Lieberman HAS TO GO!!!

With friends like him (and a few others) what the hell does America or the Democratic party need with enemies?

Cut the bastard loose! How much more plainly could he demand to be sent packing? He's had his 10 miles of rope and it's on every freaking tree in DC! For GOD'S SAKE: CUT HIM LOOSE!!! CUT HIM LOOSE!!! CUT HIM LOOSE!!! (You are free to chant that whenever Joe Lieberman is present)

Joe "Likudnic sleeper cell" Lieberman

Imagine a Muslim member of the US Congress very, very obviously voting and lobbying for any action by the US that would benefit the Islamic world or OPEC or the Saudis. Wouldn't he be called out on that, ridiculed in the press for playing identity politics, defiling the dignity of his office, some would even call him an Al-Qaeda sleeper cell no doubt. He'd be impeached, perhaps even called a traitor to his country, maybe even publicly castrated (at least figuratively)?

Right now people in this country are saying that Colin Powell is playing identity politics by supporting Barack Obama. They say the only reason for his support is that Obama is black like him. Colin Powell--an American supporting another American--has such dispersions cast upon his character. Well, what about Lieberman? This man uses his office as a Senator of the United States, blatantly defying his party. to show his allegiance to Israel, a foreign country in case you didn't know. But, Americans are too busy pointing the finger at the black dude and wondering whether the other black dude might not be a Muslim. Incredible!
