Thank you, Salon.

Any child considering joining the military "service" should be placed in a dark room and required to watch this video in its entirety.

Any parent considering allowing their child to enlist in the military should be placed in a dark room and required to watch this video in its entirely.

Any citizen wearing their "patriotism" like a yellow ribbon on an SUV while blathering about "supporting the troops," should be placed in a dark room and required to watch this video in its entirety.

Even at this late stage of Georgie's little war, Salon is certain to be vilified for publishing this simple eloquent damnation of what happens when well-intentioned stupid people are led by smug, entitled, madmen.

Archive this, people. Show it to your grandchildren the next time America talks of sending its young to do rich old men's Evil bidding.

Insane

What an incredible waste. This is what people like John McCain and George Bush mean when they talk about defending America. They mean killing countless innocent people for no apparent reason. This is well funded, organized insanity. It amazes me that we call this patriotism. We have lost our way as a nation.

Important Viewing for All Americans

I'm am a rarity, former military who proudly served during the first Gulf War and a Progressive. While I absolutely hate the current conflict in Iraq I have nothing but admiration for the men and women who voluntarily serve their country. In a perfect world we would not need a military and Pfc. Nelson would not need to lose his life. But the world is imperfect, and we need men and women like the individuals on this video to go do the dirty work that so many of us detest. Salon readers should not let their dislike of G. W. Bush or the current conflict cloud their views of the families of the military or the men and women that serve. Trust me, if we were to go to Darfur to stop the genocide we would have friendly fire incidents and other horrors of war.

The other letter writer is correct that every potential enlistee and military family member should watch this video. But, not to discourage choosing the military as a career; but to take every opportunity to prevent the need to use force.

I just don't understand?

I have been confused about Bush since he came into office.

I had that feeling he was NO GOOD for our country,I CAN'T stand to listen to this selfish old man that is just money hungry and cares about not one of our soldiers,Oh yeah he puts on the sympathy face when something like this happens,But you know the truth he is so damn dumb he probably don't even know why this war was started. We were bomb by WHO? BIN LADIN!!!

Could someone tell me why their is hardly any news broadcasting about Afganistan, what about our Soldiers over there? Are we close to finding Bin Ladin? Besides saying he is in one of his caves,we know that but why is it we can't find him.

I support my Troops for everything they have done and are still doing, but I think our FAMOUS PRESIDENT BUSH should be right next to our troops fighting to. Why is it the president and whoever else has the right to sit back and not fight this war with the Men and Women they send to clean up their Mistakes and Messes,The Men and Women they send wherever they want to be injureded or worst. I hate the fact that he gets to Sleep comfortly in his bed at night and not have to worry about a thing when our troops are over there getting killed by our own people!!! I just don't understand this whole mess.

Before Bush is replaced (THANK THE LORD) I THINK HE SHOULD HAVE TO GO SERVE THE REST OF HIS TIME WITH OUR TROOPS FIGHTING RIGHT BESIDE THEM!!!!!!

GOD BLESS THE TROOPS AND I HOPE THERE IS NO MORE BLOOD SHED FOR OUR PRESIDENT OR THE OTHER GREEDY PEOPLE!

American Soldier

Throw away everything that is patriotic. Forget about all the men and women who sacrificed the #1 thing for our county, their lives. Who cares. As for the children of these men and women who died, your mommy or daddy won't be there to tuck you in at night, see you graduate, or have your own family. Why? Because they were stupid and joined the military. It was all just a waste. Forget about the 2+ years of life thrown away by most all of the military men and women by going over to Iraq and Afghanistan. I hope these men and women know that the precious time spent away from their family was a waste. Missing the birth of their first child, first anniversary, 21st birthday, holidays, child's 1st birthday, 2nd anniversary, and more holidays, etc. was just a complete total waste of time.

How can anybody say that who has never been in that situation. How would you like to spend 15 months at once away from your friends/family, basic living situations like running water and indoor toilets (omg I have to go in that?), and on top of all of this still maintaining a positive attitude to make it home safe and sound. Hoping to get to meet your child, kiss your spouse, tell your mom and dad you love them.

These men and women are brave. They are not stupid to fight for our country, or to fight for another countries freedom.

Many people have complained about how much money we are spending in Iraq and Afghanistan. But do these same people stop and think about how much actors/actresses, sports stars, etc. get paid, MILLIONS, and thats just for one film, or part of a season. These young men and women are risking their lives, not just acting like it.

As for those of you who go around protesting at soldiers' funerals, like PFC. Albert Nelson, don't you have anything better to do. Your life is so dull and boring that you have to go and hurt the families and friends of these brave people.

It's because of lazy people like you that these young men and women have to fight for our country and put their lives on the line, and who didnt get a chance to have their own family. I would like to see all of these people who complain about the military get off there butts and fight for their country. Not just complain about it on the internet.

As for these soldiers that are in this footage, these 19-20 year-olds, are stupid. If that is the case how come each and everyone of them are doing everything that they were taught to save PFC Nelson's life. I would like you who criticize to be in a situation where a friend was bleeding to death, and you were the only one who could save their life.

As for the McCain criticism, his own son is over there.

All of the men and women who have died, it is not in vain. All of you men and women still fighting for our country, it is not in vain. Thank you for all of your sacrifices. To PFC Nelson's mom, I am so sorry for your loss. You are a strong person, and you passed that on to your son! He will be greatly missed by all who knew him!!!
