Meet Sarah Palin's radical right-wing pals

Extremists Mark Chryson and Steve Stoll helped launch Palin's political career in Alaska, and in return had influence over policy. "Her door was open," says Chryson -- and still is.

American's Double Standard

How is it that the American revolution, a now much admired move for independence from a oppressive distant government is approved by Americans but such a move by the people of Alaska after being mistreated and discriminated against by the distant US government is called wrong? What kind of double standard is this? Americans hold themselves to be the protectors of freedom the world over but just let some of their own people express a desire for a freedom from the insanity that America is going through these days and watch those same Americans get all indignant.

Alaska would do just fine on it's own. With it's stategic location and vast natural resources it could negotiate many favorable alliances and beneficial associations with the US and other countries.

Just think what a Bering Sea rail and road crossing with an Alaskan portal to the western world would bring to the upgrading of shipping and commerce. With Alaska controlling that portal and benefitting from every shipment that crossed through it...both ways.

Alaska has been called the Crossroads of the World. And could truly be if the US government would let it grow and develop. But it won't. So it behooves Alaskans to move forward. With or without the US. And without is just fine also.

Sarah What?

I am amazed that people are wilingl to damn Sarah as a defense to Obama's lack of substance. As a PRO CHOICE, Gay marriage supporting, gun toting, Alaska loving, free wheeling member of our great REPUBLIC, I respect people like Sarah Palin. Sarah might be religious [ while I am not] but she doesn't cram her beliefs down others throats. She is Governor of one the few states in the union that is not teetering on the edge of disaster. I understand that the rest of America isn't really looking for leaders to solve problems, they are looking for leaders to tell them that they will get all that they deserve. Well, it is unfortunate that we will end up with what we deserve, a bankrupt country full of uneducated fools that elected a man who didn't believe economic collapse wasn't important enough for him to go back to work. I am so glad that there is Canada between Alaska and the rest of the United States.

Alaska not allowed to grow and build. Feds responsible.

JNagarya would have Alaskans tax themselves to build their roads and infrastructure. Taxes come from income derived from developement of resources, jobs resulting from that developement, and land ownership bought with income from those jobs. But if the federal government refuses to allow the citizens to access those resources, cross those lands, process and sell the resultant products to buy private lands and build, there can be no taxes derived. No jobs. No life. No growth. And again, no taxes. So you see, up here, Federal government means no taxes. Only by getting rid of that opressive government can Alaska build, grow and compete on an equal footing with other states.

Alaskans are locked up. Hemmed in. And are subject to restrictions that other Americans would rail against. But you FREE Americans, oh excuse me, you free Socialist Americans, seem to have one way for you, and another way to treat Alaskans. Yeah, Equal under the law. To Alaskans that's a joke.

Freedom to most Americans these days seems only lip service.

Alaskans want to build their roads, develop their resources, and provide for themselves, but the government won't let them do so.

Alaskan for Independence.

We had this sort of thing in the 1860's

But in the 21st century?

Alaska wants to break away and become...what?

Let the person without sin cast the first stone!

The more I find out about Sarah Palin from the news and other articles, because we all know she is not allowed to speak for herself. Her spoonfed hatred is coming back to bite her now and I'm glad. She is totally inept at being VP. To hear people talking about how hot she is and not how much sybstance she has is insulting to females which I am one. I first heard this story last night and it only confirmed what I thought was lying behind those librarian glasses and cutsie smile! She is scary and they are inciting violence and hatred. Last night I was sitting in my office and I happen to have an Obama sign in my front yard. A Mom walked by with her kids and looked at my sign and said something and the 7 or 8 year old child spit on my sign. That brought all of this home to me and Palin needs to stop it. Barack Obama is no more a terrorist or a muslim extremist than I am. McCain is an ornery, old, say anything, do anything, to win and hopefully on election day we will show him this was all wrong for him to do. Talk about the issues I care about, the economy, my health care, this stupid war that is sucking us dry, the vigilanty mentality of our current administration, stem cell research, womens rights, education. I'm a Realtor my husband is a teacher, we have grandkids that we care deeply about and we are truly scared for their future. We all need to truly wake up and realize a time like this election comes around once in a lifetime for us and we need to elect Barack Obama.

Every candidate has some kooks in his/her closet

This is no more a real story than Rev. Wright or Billy Beer (anybody remember that?). Aren't there more important things to worry about?

No way

I really find it hard to believe that ANYONE with a single ounce of common sense would be taking McBush/Failin seriously. I mean really.

Too much heat and not enough light in this article so I decided to find out what the Alaska Independence Party's platform actually is.

Max Blumenthal is the son of Sidney Blumenthal and I wouldn't expect him to be impartial. His Daddy was being torn to shreds some months ago when he was an aide to Hillary Clinton and the Obama supporters failed to show the sweet reasonableness for which they are now famous.

Yes, the AIP has a candidate for the Senate election in which he hopes to replace Ted Stevens. Since the AIP is being presented as a bunch of havoc-wreaking extremists, it's a good idea to find out what the party stands for rather than take antagonistic hearsay for the truth. The AIP candidate is Bob Bird and these are the Party's aims:

l The curbing of the federal judiciary, with a states-rights approach to social issues.

2. An immediate pullout of Iraq and an end to American military adventurism.

3. An amended statehood act that will be in conformity to the Constitution in all aspects.

4. A defence of American sovereignty against global corporatism.

5. A Jeffersonian interpretation of the Constitution, with an emphasis on the l0th Amendment.

This doesn't seem to have anything to do with secession. I also read an interview with candidate Bird on MillerPolitics.com and he didn't seem to be an "extremist". When I can, I read as much about this election as I can, especially as the Cassandras are claiming that America's imperium is doomed. I take some things with a grain of salt and others with a rock of salt from the Dead Sea. "Salon" isn't a reliable narrator on the topic of Sarah Palin. Each article has all the variety of a palindrome and the disgruntlement of Alaskan malcontents is scarcely hard evidence of her moral turpitude. We can read that Mark Chryson and Steve Stoll were, in their own minds anyway, Sarah Palin's facilitator some years ago but what the writers of this article don't do is tell readers how Mr. Chryson and Mr. Stoll are currently deploying their political talents so as to bring their activities up-to-date.
