mind explaining the nice little pamphlet put out by the Southern Baptists (not exactly a small group) about 10 years ago during the High Holy Days exhorting the faithful to increase their efforts to convert Jews? Yes, yes, all with "love" of course, to save them from their fate in hellfire. Profoundly and deeply insulting, this was discussed with horror in synagogues all over the country, you can well imagine where folks might be a bit suspicious of Palin's "love". Secondary gain, perhaps?
This has nothing to do with the respect for another religion's beliefs, supposedly a bedrock belief of this country.
I'm with underanothername and Zandru 100% on this one.
I can't stand McCain/Palin, but reading that supposed letter from the professor talking about her meeting with McCain and his family clearly is wrong.
According to the letter, the writer met McCain prior to his 2000 run. However, she then writes the following:
"I actively avoided McCain after that, but unfortunately one day he engaged me in a political discussion which soon got us on the topic of the active US bombing of Iraq at that time. I was shocked when he said, "If I was in charge, I would nuke Iraq to teach them a lesson". Given McCain's personal experience with the horrors of war, I had expected a more balanced point of view."
Look at the dates. The US wasn't "actively bombing Iraq" in 2000.
The war was still three or four years away.
I think that proves substantively that the letter is false.
Hit McCain/Palin on their own de-merits; don't make them up.
We were bombing Iraq ever sence "Gulf War part 1".
Remember no-fly zones, and all that shit?

If Palin were such an anti-Semite, then Joe Lieberman would not have been on the stage introducing her this morning. I don't think anyone can deny that he puts his personal integrity above answering to any political partners. (If you're not sure, just note that shiny new (I) next to his name.)
While I don't buy into any of the BS rumors about Obama (and I wouldn't care if he were Muslim anyway) I can't ignore the fact that he has a long history of close association with lunatics. Are people seriously going to bring up some African clergyman who gave a speech at Palin's church once, yet ignore the 20-year head pastor of Obama's church, who baptized his children? Really?
But the single most important reason why I'm voting for McCain is that our economy might not be strong enough to survive the nightmare that would be Obama rubber-stamping Pelosi and Reid's incompetence. Make no mistake -- Obama has NEVER gone against his party or his political masters (hello, Daley Machine). If we elect him, those two clowns will be running the show. That frightens even liberals of sense.
Palin may be a bit of a backwards hick, but it's pretty clear to me that she and McCain have at least a chance of injecting some fiscal responsibility into Washington. I have no such hope for Obama.
BTW, I'm a (relatively ;) ) young Jew who lives in Palm Beach County (I have a lot of very jealous friends who live in noncompetitive states where their votes won't count). I made my choice based on who would be best for America, not best for Israel.
The US went to war against Iraq in 1991, under George H.W. Bush. At various times during the 1990s, President Clinton ordered bombing for a variety of reasons, including protecting the Kurdish areas.
2003 was not the first time the United States bombed - or invaded - Iraq.
However, Snopes.com says the letter is most likely a fake. Check out:

Most of the comments of the Mc "Cain" supporters have not noticed that Cain and his descendants will be marked forever: Stupidity and "Bomb, baby, bomb: Iran and Israel. Then kill all the Jews and the Messiah will return as the Bible says." Are the Jews stupid?
You can never be too sure and what's the harm if it leads to SanFranParadise?
In Pensees, Pascal says of those who attack Christianity--At least let them first learn what this religion is that they are attacking.
Some who post here would do well to do just that if you plan to continue posting on the topic.
In a nutshell, here is what Christians believe: The author of this book we call "What Is" became a character in the book 2000 years ago. His name was Jesus and he was a Jew. Jesus taught people how they should live and then, because all of us are infected with a cancer called sin that must be dealt with harshly, willingly cured that cancer by dying on the cross so we did not have to.
Now, many of you don't believe that and that is your right. But when you accuse Christians of thinking they are better than everyone else, you miss the point of Christianity entirely. The point is this (and you can find it in the New Testament at Ephesians 2:8-9): Christians do not believe they will go to Heaven because they are good or because they are better than Jews or Muslims or liberal secularists or anyone else---they believe that they will go to Heaven because Jesus--a perfect sacrifice, paid the debt that we owe.
Also, if you want to add some diversity to your life, you might visit a mainstream Christian church--Catholic or Evangelical, it does not matter). What you will see is this: Every week in Church, Christians celebrate and learn from the Old Testament stories of Jews like Jeremiah and Abraham and Moses and Ruth and from New Testament Jews like Peter and Paul. And you will see them worshipping Jesus, a Jew.
This is why Christians like Sarah Palin can be expected to support Jewish people.
"From a historical point of view, Jews and Moslems have largely gotten along, while Christians have relentlessly persecuted Jews. Often, Moslems have protected Jews from Christians. The last 60 years have been a major aberration in Moslem-Jewish relations, of course.
Still, you can't blame Jewish voters from being suspicious of a right-wing Christian fundie. They've got nearly 2000 years of history that supports their concerns".

HADITH Sahih Bukhari [4:52:176] Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar:
Allah's Apostle said, "You (i.e. Muslims) will fight with the Jews till some of them will hide behind stones. The stones will (betray them) saying, 'O 'Abdullah (i.e. slave of Allah)! There is a Jew hiding behind me; so kill him.' "
Zandru, your stupidity is astounding.
