"I find her offensive"

John McCain was making a bid for South Florida's Jewish voters, a crucial demographic in a purple state. But then he chose Sarah Palin as a running mate.

Obama08Now

I'm kind of curious about this quote from your last letter:

You can't come of age in the south side of Chicago (where Jews still own a lot of businesses) and not have some feeling for the Palestinians.

Specifically, I'm wondering exactly what it is about the presence of Jewish-owned businesses on the South Side of Chicago that necessarily results in having "some feeling for the Palestinians."

Also, it strikes me as interesting that the effect of every comment you post is to reinforce precisely the despicable McCain-issued smears you ostensibly want to expose.

@einnocent et. al

Palin is reported to have led a whisper campaign against a rival for Mayor or City Council in Wasilla in which her opponent was alleged to have been Jewish. He wasn't but apparently some damage was done. I'll ge the link to the article.

Far Right Wing Write Threaten Obama On Yahoo Finance Ford Message Board

I was looking and blogging on the Ford Yahoo Finance Message Board and you have all kind of right-wing loonies, using every type of epiphat of racial hatred, every crazy threat known on Obama, this one guy calls himself jewhader 112, and threatens terrorist fantasy remarks against the United States, and even says he will be the catalyst. And that's the mildest this guy gets. There are others who blog, that aren't as extreme. They just snicker making racial overtones, and don't debate issues with the smarter blogger.I'm Jewish-before the extremist I mentioned ,was known to me, I blogged that Jewish people are not going to take hatred, and they saw the indifference McCain treated Obama with, at the first debate. It seemed to spur the most extreme elements on the fringe ,and is was a devisive tactic on McCain's part. McCain couldn't look at Obama,as if not to respect him,as a person. And of course now we reach the Hannityzed part of the McCain campaign, with sleeze at a premium.Nope. Lieberman isn't enough for the Jewish vote in Florida or anywhere. We don't like racism-period.We were half the non-blacks who marched with Martin Luther King.It ain;t culture when it's hatred, not my culture.

Palin Whisper Campaign

http://www.salon.com/news/feature/2008/09/23/palin/index.html

Salon published this article a while ago. Wasilla is apparently a heavily Christian town and Palin billed herself as Christian Candidate for Mayor. Some took that as implying that her opponent and his wife, who has the name Stein, were not.

@david-smith

I'm just referring to Jeremiah Wright. He tells his church the Palestinian people are the most suffering people in the world, he gives awards away to Farrakhah, he refers to the Jewish doctors conspiracy by talking about black babies being infected with aids. That is pandering to black folks on the poor south side who have an envy toward Jews. There is a similar thing in Detroit with the Arabs owning businesses - lots of black anti-Arab sentiment there. If Jeremiah ever moves to Detroit, he can turn around and preach against the Palestinians. :)

With Barack, I'm just saying he spent 20 years in that church and probably has a better knowledge of the Palestinian perspective than any other politiician. That will serve him well if he ever gets to try to make peace between Israel and Palestinian. Much better than Palin's all-Israel, all-the-way mentality, whihc is just going to get you more conflict.

my anecdotal drop in the bucket

My grandma got behind Obama as soon as Hillary, her favorite, lost. But people whose primary concern is Israel are still behind McCain. Lieberman is unpopular with Jews, at least the ones I know.

to molly picon...a question

"my anecdotal drop in the bucket

My grandma got behind Obama as soon as Hillary, her favorite, lost. But people whose primary concern is Israel are still behind McCain. Lieberman is unpopular with Jews, at least the ones I know."

A polite and sincere question...Would you be willing to give us more insight, your take, on why those "whose primary concern is Israel are still behind McCain"? I sincerely want to at least try to understand why he (especially with Palin on the ticket) would be favored.

OY VEY, (voteber dot means)

I thought all these nice elderly Jewish ladies loved Joey Lieberman with his little yarmulka, and now the Obamabots are saying they don't like Joe anymore.

Why don't they like Joe anymore?

Because Obama's close friendship with Rashid Khalidi is good for Israel, good for the Jews?

Because they think all those nice Jewish boys and girls who became the best doctors really did spread AIDS?

Because they think Obama's minister FOR TWENTY YEARS really was Wright?

Because they think Obama's corrupt and they think they can buy him?

Because they think Lieberman is not socialist enough, not radical enough.

Bye the way, if Wexler was female, he'd be a yenta. He is what you call "Shry."

He has a whiney voice.

He kvells.

This kind of weenie gives our people a bad name.

The Daily Show (or one of it's producers) Agrees

Having produced two segments featuring Jewish voters in South Florida, one before and one after the Palin pick, I felt a shift in support for Obama. While some of the seniors previously may have had problems with voting for Obama, they now seem to recoil at the idea of a Palin White House. Enjoy this non-scientific evidence:

Jesus Fuck don't you people ever get sick of race baiting?

We're what? 2% of the population? And of that maybe half of the half vote? But we're SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO powerful that we control the world and it warrants a near weekly torrent of "We fucking hate you mysterious Jews" from Salon?

Monday, October 6, 2008 05:25 AM

Yaaaay

So let me get this right... greed outstripped racism? Wow, I'm really getting a case of the warm fuzzies. Racist old bags.

Palin pick a curious one

So, Palin may have lost him Florida by turning off an important voting bloc. That seems to be a trend for him.

I also thought he lost the Philadelphia suburbs (natural McCain conservatives who want nothing to do with fundamentalist evangelicals) when he selected her. Montgomery, Delco, Chester, and Bucks are what swings the elections here. These people want low taxes and lots of police and prisons. But their homes are worth millions because their schools are strong, and they do not want nonsense like creationism.

They're aghast that their kids could be walking into Princeton interviews talking about how humans and dinosaurs shared the earth 6,000 years ago.

And Palin cannot even get him the "hard working class whites" because the economy is in the tank and Obama owns the issue. So there has not been any upside in Palin here.

I believe he lost PA the day he selected Palin. Possibly NH as well. If FL joins that list, then this has to be called the worst trade off ever. He firmed up NE and WY at the expense of major swing states. Unreal, kind of like Sam Bowie being picked over Michael Jordan.
