I can think of many reasons why Jewish people reject Palin, yet, it is difficult to put your finger on it, and a good way to sum it up, I agree, is that, I, too, find her OFFENSIVE.
In her Pentecostal way, she supports Israel because it is their mission to convert Jews.
There is an impression that she gives that she is indeed, anti semite. She resents intellect, education, travel, different cultures or "diversity", all those things that Jewish people have always valued. Oy vey! she probably shares the same opinion about the economy that some other colorful charmer in Germany shared as it relates to Jewish people.
No thank you. I am not Jewish, but, I value and trust your judgements. I share your instinct that she is a disaster.
Couldn't agree more with your assessment of Palin. Who knows what she really thinks of Israel. Darn shootin likely she does not know any real Jews and would not fit in well in the Israel of the real world - compared to her biblical imagination.
I sometimes wonder what our support for Israel would look like if we cleaned out the neocon Christian fantasist hacks and let reasonable people make decisions about foreign policy. It might be more pro-palestinian - people going back to George Marshall said it was crazy to support the Jews in Palestine, and only the most cloying Christian sentiment could account for our desire to stiff the oil rich Arab nations at its expense. Marshall was probably right, if you think about it. Support for *democracy* in Israel has not gotten us much either, unless you count 9/11 as a benefit.
That is why I think Barack offers us - and Israel - something better than the mindless pro-Israeli policies of the past. You can't come of age in the south side of Chicago (where Jews still own a lot of businesses) and not have some feeling for the Palestinians. Barack could bring balance, and I think hopefully justice for all concerned. All you would get from McCain/Palin is mindless bombing of Israel's enemies and mindless support for the fence, or whatever else Israel decides to do to keep the Palestinians at bay. When the dust settles from those types of aggressive policies, what do you really have? Seems to me, not much.
"Seriously - there's enough dirt on McCain from the simple facts about his life and actions. Nobody needs to try to make anything up."
I'm glad you appreciate the article that I linked to, I'm sure you'll forgive me if I misinterpreted your pov, if that letter was a fake then so be it. If a man can't recall how many houses he owns, he deserves to have shit made up about him, and broadcasted as fact to anybody who might be swayed.
I'm just tired of pussy footing around and it wasn't clear to me on what you were trying to get at.
McCain has proven himself unfit for office simply by his choice of a running mate. He has insulted me one too many times with his erratic and high-handed manner, I have heard one too many uncontested and outright lies from his campaign to not be jumping around (occasionally it might be referred to as, dancing) and joining in with a dose of what is good for the gander is good for the goose, in my jill six pack mind don't cha know.
I used to respect McCain, once. But listening to his pitbull in lipstick spouting utter bullshit for the next four weeks is gonna grate. Can a hero fall from grace?
In this case, yes.
So I'm sorry if I implied you thought he was a hero, too. He ain't one of mine, that is for sure.
After 8 years of Bush, It was not a difficult decision to not vote Repulican this year. Than the Sarah Palin nomination came about, Am I Crazy? NO. A novice is a breath away from being president. FACTS: Barack Obhama is not islamic. He is Christion. He is not anti Jewish. He is young, with the ideas that differ from the old boys school. He is concerned about the middle class, which has become smaller and smaller. It is not inconcieveable that the middle class could revolt against the current political eatablishment. I am not middle class, I am rather wealthy. It is the wonderful oppertunities offered by this country that have allowed my husband and me to work hard, take chances, get lucky sometimes and live a very fine life. I want my children and their children to do the same. We need to fix our government and John McCain is not the person to do it. Other than Viet Nam, where he was a war hero, he has lived a very privilideged life, He is so out of touch with the average anerican I can not imagine him catching up. Everything changes, and now it is time to change what has happended to the United States. My husband is 74, believe me we will both acknowledge that the mental difference between 65 to 74 is enourmous. We slow down and think less clearly and less quickly. Race is irrevelent. GO OBAMA!
Of course statements like this:
"...that's how these people feel about Israel, it's like their child."
Have absolutely nothing to do with the taboo subject of duel loyalty.
The churches where Sarah worships and recruits her commissioners and other appointees have condemned to eternal damnation Jews who have not accepted Jesus as their personal saviors. They're homophobes as well, believing they can "cure" people of their "affliction" through prayer. Come to think if it, they don't think much of Catholics either. That eliminates Miami, Miami Beach and Key West as well.
There's a little problem also with the African preacher who, at the same time he's "casting out witches" urges chuch members to go to the polls and vote for Sarah. That's a clear violation of 501(c)3 tax-exempt status.
One of Sarah's preachers stated in 2004 that no one who voted for John Kerry would be "saved."
A scary bunch, eh?
