  • @Sherrie -MY hero? My HERO??

Thanks for the extensive quote from the Rolling Stone article. It's a good one; I recommend it, too.

On the other hand, if I dispute the accuracy of some Internet email garbage and supply a link to a Snopes article debunking it, it doesn't mean I "love" John McCain (the third), or that he's "my hero." And when did I ever say anything about McCain winning ANY wars?

Seriously - there's enough dirt on McCain from the simple facts about his life and actions. Nobody needs to try to make anything up. Lies discredit the liar, regardless of whether the ultimate goal is "right." Just like McCain's lies condemn him more than the ridiculous nonsense posted about his fictional vacation on Turtle Island.

Hard to say what the caribou barbie really thinks about the Jews and Israel, though her pastors seem to be end time nuts who want to destroy Isreal's enemies to make Jerusalem safe for a new temple and second coming of Christ. Palin told Shimon Peres she is very pro-Israel, carries a flag and a pin with star of David in her office. Typical Pentecostal fanatic.

If you think bombing Iran like Israel did Iraq in the 80s is good, then Jews should like Palin. If you want more balance, concern for Palestinians to make overall peace -- what Jeremiah Wright has been preaching for years, then Obama makes a helluva lot more sense. What good is it going to do to bomb Iran if we have a milion angry Palestinians waiting for return and a chance to kill Jews. Obama will do for Israel what he will do for America, tell them things they don't necessarily want to hear. It's time to get fair with the Palestinians, so we can finally have overall peace.

  • and pro-McCain operative Hannity had an anti-semite on his show!

As if Palin's chruch ties aren't scary enough, Sean Hannity had a foul snti-semite, Andy Martin, on his show to defame Obama. Reported by Todd Gitlin.

  • Re:A recent MUST READ Article about John McCain

I am having a hard time understanding why a serious publication like Salon would post a letter that according to Snopes the author claims she never wrote.

FWIW, I have lived in AZ for 25 years), met the Senator and Cindy. They love all their children including Bridget and who is proudly and lovingly introduced by both McCains.

To attack the children of any of the candidates is abominable and for Salon to keep a racist letter that the author claims she never wrote says as much about Salon as it does the poster of this garbage.

  • @marco1965

Marco is right, Palin is a Nazi at heart. Yeah, she carries a star of David flag and wears an Isarel pin -- just like every other bible thumping snake charming fundamentalist end times fanatic in America. They're still anti-semites. With Palin and her pastors, you can look it up.

Barack on the other hand is a thinker. He may not be on board all the way with the Jewish lobby, but he is going to do right by the Palestinian/Jewish question. He is from Chicago -- a tough anti-semitic town if ever there was one -- anyone ever seen Good Times, heard of Louis Farrakahn or remember Jesse Jackson's hymie town remark on NYC? For me, that just makes Barack more balanced, not anti-Jew. We are never going to make the Arabs happy by giving Israel everything it wants.

So, with Barack you get balance and the benefit of his Islamic upbringing in Indonesia and Chicago perspective on the Arabs. With McCain and caribou barbie, you get bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran. Why would any thinking person choose McCain?

But Wexler also says his support for Obama is based on the fact that he's such a strong supporter of Israel, and because Obama recognizes that Iran is the greatest threat to Israeli and American security.

Oh, how this lazy conflation bothers me. I understand Israel's justification in seeing Iran as a threat to its security. Even with their superior military might, any need by Israel to defend itself against an Iranian attack would necessarily weaken its defenses against its myriad other nearby antagonists. But do I, here, have anything to fear from the state of Iran? No, because there's nothing in it for them to try to attack the US. The promise of certain obliteration from the skies is no basis for political success to Ahmadinejad or any future Iranian president.

As an ally of Israel, we would of course jump to their aid in the event of an Iran-Israel war. And we would be equally joined in the effort by...umm...who, exactly? Ah, maybe that conflation wasn't merely lazy after all.....

  • @imakecents

Salon didn't write the letter, a reader posted it to an open forum. Do you think they fact-check any/all of these postings? Has Salon contacted you to prove you lived in Arizona, have met McCain, and can prove everything you say? Let me know when they do.

  • A pat on the back

America has certianly come a long way if Jews aren't concerned about their own civil rights and religious freedom, and Israel is the only Jewish issue. Good job America!

  • @sansho1

Sansho1 is right. We Americans don't have anything to fear from Iran. Are they going to build ICBM's? Even Bush and Cheney and Bolton talk only of the Iranian threat to Israel. Let me know when they have the capacity to strike the American homeland.

McCain and his trophy running mate want to have the US air force or Israeli army blow up the Iranian facilities, like Israel did to Iraq's nukes in the 1980's. Barack Obama is roughly 100 times smarter. He realizes we can talk to the Iranians, and might as well do it face to face at the highest possible levels, and convince them that they are wrong. I am sure some neocon hack will attack me on this site for being naive, but I think Obama can succeed. If there is anyone who is truly transformational, and can talk the Iranians out of attacking Israel, it is Barack. Just look at his presidential campaign.

The Jews in south Florida are right to discount the maverick bomber and his princess running mate, and give Obama a chance to talk sense to the Iranians. Like I said before, I think diplomacy - by a very gifted man - is the key to peace in this region. If the first talks don't work, I am sure Obama can use the same skills on the Russians and the Chinese at the UN.
