"I find her offensive"

John McCain was making a bid for South Florida's Jewish voters, a crucial demographic in a purple state. But then he chose Sarah Palin as a running mate.

The letters thread is now closed.

The GOP are playing the fear card, once again, as always

All the post-9/11 legislation and war mongering was fear based. The Wall Street bail-out was fear based. Willie Horton was fear based. Karl Rove and Dick Cheney are fear based. This scare is fear based. Is it really any surprise?

Gladly however I think the fear-based jig is finally up. The GOP called "wolf" one too many times.

"MUST READ"? Must debunk

This is one of those scam Internet letters. Snopes.com has not yet determined conclusively its status, but reports that the woman who appears to have "signed" it denies ever having written such a thing, or been on Turtle Island, or met John McCain.

Here's the link:

Don't forward everything that comes into your INBOX. You don't know where most of it's been.

Your right, Palin's dangerous

Barack was smart dumping Jeremiah when he did. All his palestinian and Farrakhan stuff would not have helped in Florida. The caribou barbie seems like an end times hawk who wants to bomb Iran to keep Israel safe for a third temple or something. Whatever. What has Iraq war done for Israel, besides remove Saddam Hussein? Barack can use time in Indonesia, knowledge of Islam to make smart diplomacy, add much needed balance to the Jew/Palestinian solution.

@Zandro

You can't debunk this in depth report, read it and weep for the guy palin knows can "win wars" :

Link below excerpt for those with time constraints:

"McCain, who knew more than most pilots about bailing out of a crippled aircraft, leapt forward out of the cockpit, swung himself down from the refueling probe protruding from the nose cone, rolled through the flames and ran to safety across the flight deck. Just then, one of his bombs "cooked off," blowing a crater in the deck and incinerating the sailors who had rushed past McCain with hoses and fire extinguishers. McCain was stung by tiny bits of shrapnel in his legs and chest, but the wounds weren't serious; his father would later report to friends that Johnny "came through without a scratch."

"The damage to the Forrestal was far more grievous: The explosion set off a chain reaction of bombs, creating a devastating inferno that would kill 134 of the carrier's 5,000-man crew, injure 161 and threaten to sink the ship."

"These are the moments that test men's mettle. Where leaders are born. Leaders like . . . Lt. Cmdr. Herb Hope, pilot of the A-4 three planes down from McCain's. Cornered by flames at the stern of the carrier, Hope hurled himself off the flight deck into a safety net and clambered into the hangar deck below, where the fire was spreading. According to an official Navy history of the fire, Hope then "gallantly took command of a firefighting team" that would help contain the conflagration and ultimately save the ship."

"McCain displayed little of Hope's valor. Although he would soon regale The New York Times with tales of the heroism of the brave enlisted men who "stayed to help the pilots fight the fire," McCain took no part in dousing the flames himself.

....As the ship burned, McCain took a moment to mourn his misfortune; his combat career appeared to be going up in smoke. "This distressed me considerably," he recalls in Faith of My Fathers. "I feared my ambitions were among the casualties in the calamity that had claimed the Forrestal."

There goes YOUR hero, dude. You know, the one that "won all those wars".

0 Jewish votes for Sarah Palin

This whole business about the Jewish vote going to McCain is ridiculous.

No Jew is going to vote for McCain with a Nazi like Palin on the ticket.

Why exactly are Jews anti-Palin?

It isn't clear from the article why Palin is such an affront to Jews.

Some Jews are cited claiming to have heard she is an anti-Semite. This is the first I've heard. Wexler supposes her pro-life, anti-stem cell research stance will turn off voters, but is this any different from McCain's views?

This article claims that Palin may have turned the tide in Democrats' favor, but it doesn't say why. It feels like this entire article has a basis that goes unexplicated, and it was the one question I really wanted answered when I began reading it.

Florida Jews Should Be Ashamed of Themselves

I'm Jewish, and live 10 minutes from Boca Raton. It's heartening to read that many south Florida Jews seem to be coming around to Obama, after months of flirting with McCain, even if it's for reasons that don't involve support for the Democratic Party or progressive principles. The fact that Sarah Palin is an evangelical Christian anti-semite, who believes in the Rapture, during which most "unsaved" Jews will be condemned to Hell while she and her brethren float up to Heaven, is a good enough reason to send McCain to his own "Century Village" retirement home in Arizona. With 9 different homes, that's a fat chance!

I've heard and been involved in numerous conversations in diners and restaurants here that make my neck hair stand on end. People suggesting Obama is a Muslim terrorist, a Muslim spy who will destroy the government, a Jew hater who will betray Israel, despite his favorable rating from AIPAC and from many native Israelis. The elderly Jews who choose to believe this patently false Internet swill are either senile or they're simply using these lies as a cover for their racism. Despite their public swing to Obama, it remains to be seen how many of them will pull the lever for him when they're in the privacy of the voting booth.

It's profoundly disturbing to me that so many of these people, with whom I share a common heritage, and for whom higher education of their children and grandchildren is a prime family value, are in fact so ignorant, even stupid in their prejudices and fears of Obama, and especially Joe Biden, who's been a strong supporter of Israel for decades and would never have joined the ticket if there was any doubt of Obama's commitment.

Joe Lieberman may be an orthodox Jew, but he's a turncoat in his own party, a militarist, a super-hawk regarding the Middle East, a blind supporter of McCain's disastrous Iraq policies, and a Secretary of Defense wannabee in a McCain administration. Along with McCain and Palin, he cynically expects the Jews of Florida to overlook 8 years of political incompetence, greed and corruption in Washington, either because they don't understand it or they put being Jewish before being American.

I sincerely hope they prove him wrong on Nov. 4. Wake up and smell the fresh bagels and lox!
