I'm starting to think she's got a fixation on 'rearing heads'... she may not have tanked, but it was so insulting to watch Biden have to debate that little power-hungry princess. A man of experience, eloquence and credibility forced to stand up next to her.. for SHAME, John McCain. What will you stoop to next?
Biden could have shredded her, but he took the high road which has been one of the themes of their campaign. Ignoring her (for the most part) was probably the smartest thing he could do. I think in the morning, when the smoke clears, she will be seen for the nasal, folksy-talkin', glitter-girl that she really is. We're only all saying that she didn't lose because she didn't blow her lines as badly as she has previously.
I'd give Palin a good mark for showing up and effort, but in substance, an F. Biden clearly won this debate. Obviously hardcore Republicans like Fox News have to give her a win - what other choice do they have - they're going down and will be for a long while.
I almost expected Palin to open her mouth and say "And now, live from New York - it's Saturday Night Live".
I am proud of Biden for keeping his cool - it probably took lots of practice to overcome the urge to strangle someone like Palin, whose strategy is to attack but not say anything. I have the feeling she was frustrated that her usual attack tactics did not work with Biden.
Governor Palin--with her "I betcha"s and "darn right"s--didn't disappoint SNL's writers last night (that hold fake folksiness was just absurd). It was wildly entertaining, and I made a drinking game out of it.
Her refusal, though, to answer a question (hell, she announced that she couldn't be bothered to answer the questions put to her) was annoying. Her reference to Senator Biden's deceased wife was a low blow. And her desire to expand Cheney (mis)understanding of the vice-president's place in the executive and legislative branches is just damned scary.
We don't have a kitchen table around which we can discuss these scary and frightening times. It's not that we can't afford one, but there's not too much room in there, and it really would get in the way. As a family facing a kitchen table gap, I had to come away from the debate feeling, well, without a kitchen table in the way. We choose to take it into the living room, and discuss the issues there. As our living room is withing 60 miles of NYC, does that make us elitists?
didn't react to Biden's emotional moment because she's probably devoid of real human feeling for people. Whatever she came equiped with has no doubt been twisted dry by her so-called Christian upbringing or left to wither. She's a stone-cold narcissist like her running mate and our current WH occupants. God save us if she ends up anywhere near it.
At one point in Palin's monologue, she triumphantly proclaimed the USA as the 'city on the hill', the USA as the exception to all rules that bind lesser nations. The illusion of exceptionalism is a seductive trap into which other nations have fallen throughout history, with ancient Rome, Victorian Britain and Nazi Germany being the most glaring examples before now. The exceptional state can do things which are forbidden to lesser nations such as ignore the rules of battle that prohibit torture, consume the world's resources with abandon without thought for the needs of others, expect other nations to toil without end so that the citizens of the exceptional state can live like the deities of the Greek and Roman myths. This is why other nations hate the USA not because of our freedoms but because of our wanton excesses.
Palin MORE THAN DOUBLED taxes on Alaskan oil production causing a severe decline in production.

92% of our uranium supply is imported - and 32% is from RUSSIA.
Reduced domestic oil production and increased reliance on Russia for our energy supply. IS THAT GOOD POLICY?
General McClellan was a Union general during the Civil War. He liked drilling better than he did combat and infuriated Lincoln with his incompetence.

Also Biden sounded and looked really, really good. I watched the debate with a bunch of good liberals who are not obsessive with the presidential and didn't really know much about him. They all came away with a lot of affection for the guy. I think the same thing will be happening to the independants out there. He seemed cool headed, presidential and able to connect on domestic and foreign issues. Palin survived but Biden shined.
For me, there are 2 things I'll remember from these debates.
Debate #1 - John McCain wouldn't - or couldn't - look Barack Obama in the eye. The tall, calm, reassuring, serene man comes out on top.
Debate #2 - Joe Biden has an emotional moment where we see a glimmer of his heart, the pain and the love within him, even if he's been in the Senate since Sarah was 5 months old (or whatever) Sarah Palin prattles mindlessly about 'mavericks.' I saw something in here, too - a cold woman with an increasingly annoying smile, & incredibly irritating 'nose crinkle.' Totally inappropriate for the gravity of our times.
She was well prepared to bullshit.
Liars.
