  • Leona Imelda Evita Palin

You know, this woman is destined to be remembered very very badly.

I just hope that her descent also exposes for all to see the vile nature of her extremist religion and those who practice it.

  • Sometimes you get you deserve

Say what you like about Ms. Palin, she may be a whacko uber consevative small-minded inexperienced pol, but in spite of all the nastiness in the mayoral campaign, the good people of Wasilla, AK elected her.

Unfortunately we get what we deserve.

  • And, what the heck? Let's invade Iran

She is a politician, not a moralist. So, we can put our fears about her eccentric fundamentalist Christian ideas aside.

However, more dangerous, she probably will just go along with McCain's burning desire to nuke Iran. What the heck? Who cares?

If she had four years or more to learn about the sorts of things we all learned when we were fourteen years old, I would not worry so much. But now, yikes. Please do not bomb-bomb Iran.

  • Sarah: with or without the "l"

    you get Pain!

  • Who cares?

So Palin is just another political opportunist in lipstick. Why is this surprising? Or news for that matter?

  • No, I don't think you get it at all

Memo to all of you sick-of-the-sarah-story salonistas: I really don't think you do "get it." Salon is one of the few respected media outlets bothering to actually report on what Ms. Palin did--and didn't do--in her short and not-so-illustrious political career up north. And because they are finding lots of troubling information (and regularly exposing a fair amount of disinformation,) every once in awhile a few Salon-mined facts turn up in the national media and become part of a much wider conversation about her, but also about leadership and politics.

If you are sick of reading about Sarah Palin, stop reading about Sarah Palin. But understand that these kinds of stories extend Salon's voice beyond this self-selected liberal universe. By actually reporting stories instead of continually rewording a few select talking points, Salon is doing exactly what it is supposed to do.

  • PALIN IS NOT THE PROBLEM. OBAMA IS.

Obama is starring in a self-written, self produced drama about his best creation--himself. This dazzling prospect of a left wing charismatic with star rewards for being black and a platform of change in the abstract became a media darling. Now the Dems who helped him steal the nomination from Hillary have to foist him on the voters. All he is is a media created virtual person with characteristics that are completely fabricated because the real Obama will not come out until he is elected if we are so unfortunate as to see him in the Oval Office. He is a left wing collectivist who believes in black liberation and sympathizes with Muslims as stated in his second book. Taxes will go way up. He promises to spend $500 billion a year on the UN poverty program that will give Africa all this money that he will take from you. The markets will crash more than you can imagine and all these many federal jobs that open up will each new administration will be filled by the thugs he sent out in buses to intimidate the Hillary voters so that he could win those silly caucuses. Just wait and see who is Mean. White people will watch as he brings in boat loads from Haiti and Africa to insure that blacks become a larger percentage of our population. You'll see.

  • Tanksalot, Tanksalot

You said perfectly exactly what I was thinking. What a bunch of brats who don't get how the echo chamber works. Of course people who read Salon already know Palin is awful, but millions of Americans don't, including presumably some family and friends of Salon readers. More ammo is always good when trying to convince the low information voter, of which all of us know some.

Further, you're absolutely right that Salon is still a respected media outlet, though known to be partisan, but still credible enough to be linked-to by compilation blogs and more mainstream media outlets. People who like to watch Joan on MSNBC come here out of curiosity. Though not permanent members of the letters-pages illuminati, these people are still welcome here, and deserve to know about this kind of in-depth reporting.

Realize that there is a whole nation of people outside of this little island of liberal like-mindedness. Keep these articles coming.

  • To the very strongest part of the Republican base, Palin *is* the top of the ticket...

The fundagelicals have been praying for a quick McCain demise after he wins the election from practically within hours of the announcement of Palin's pick as Veep.

The fundagelicals were not at all enthused about McGigolo, Palin on the other hand is clearly one of them and she has them fired up big time. This is why Palin is an important story.

  • McPalin an angry manipulative mercenary opportunist? You must be kidding.

Gee and here I though John McRoadrage was Buddha reincarnate. I just don't see the match up between those two, do you?

But on a serious note. Palin is a bitch. And that's actually her appeal. She's the inner bitch in every PTA fundraiser, every church board member, every HOA attendee who wants what she wants and she will have the cops kill your fucking dog to get it.

Do you know the difference between a 'hockey mom' and a sociopath?????? It's a trick question....

  • All is lost

David I hate to tell you but there is no Santa, no Toothfairy

and yes saddest of all, Politicians use people, just ask Monica or "Brownie". No justice in this cruel world David. You David are being used by Salon to write "insightful political pieces". Someone should have prepared you for this harsh reality before putting you out here, alone. By the way half the people in this Country voted for an empty suit for President and seem well on their way to doing it again. The more things change the more they stay the same.

  • I'm Starting to Pity McCain

Admittedly, I should be brushing up on credit default swaps, instead of writing this. But let's relax a little and think about Mrs. Palin, our gun-slinging, baby-toting, future dictator of America. Yes, today's "Mean Girl" article is basically a light rehash of Sarah's callow maneuvering in her own little pond of origin. And yet, I read it avidly. I am picturing what will ensue, if Mrs. Palin brings her very special team skills to Washington. Maybe I've watched too many seasons of "24" - too much roiling Washington intrigue played out against yet another doomsday scenario. Or maybe, I've peered too deeply into the murky waters of local politics where I live. In any case, here's what I have to say to Senator McCain. Look out. You have invited a predator into your home. She will find your weaknesses quickly and use them for her own ends.
