  • How Shocking that Political Rivals don't like her!

So...you interviewed Palin's political rivals, plus a guy sitting in jail for corruption who she spurned. How shocking that they might have negative comments about her! When you undertake the same interviews with Obama's former political opponents, then we'll have something to compare. I think you could probably dredge up a few folks willing to call him "mean."

  • I find it funny

It is really funny that the press is only reporting on negative stuff pertaining to Sarah Palin . Where in Alaska so may of the locals are saying the press is trying to find dirt on Sarah they don't want to hear what she has done to help them. In their words that doesn't make for good news in the media right now.Oh I forgot Obama has no secrets ...... yeah right can't wait until it allllllllll comes out in October get ready media you asked for it :-)

  • STOP TALKING ABOUT HER!

You're devoting nothing but front-page stories about why Palin is bad when you should be talking about why Obama and Biden are better -not enough people find that to be self-evident and you need to help them.

I think McCain picked Palin partly to give him an identity politics angle, partly to keep the Bible base happy, partly to divert the ire of liberals away from himself and partly to raise the ire of liberals so much that they turn off independents with their histrionics and, more importantly, forget to help their candidate win.

In that last respect David, you are a tubthumper in McCain's orchestra.

    And he's conducting you.

  • What makes me laugh

is that the only seeming objection to Palin among the left is that they will no longer be allowed to murder babies in the last month of pregnancy.

A strong position to hang your hats on there, babes. FYI, the majority of America feels there are too many abortions and that there ought to be some limits, not outright bans, but some limits on abortion. Many fathers feel they ought to be legally included in this decision process too.

But the left continually takes a marginal position, then wonders why they consistently lose.

  • So Her Friends Can't Trust Her...

...and she pushed out the good ol' boys, only to take their place. Sounds a lot like...McCain?

  • McCain had better hire a food taster

because it looks like Palin will stop at nothing to sink her claws into what she feels is rightfully hers.

We've just had eight years of selfish, cutthroat, opportunistic, ignorant federal leadership. Do we really need four more?

  • Really, why again is Obama supposedly better?

because he speaks clearly and reads cue cards convincingly?

much of America is still waiting for the deal closer from Obama. Maybe it is precisely the lack of evidence, witnessed in the absence of articles addressing these very concerns, is the only evidence people need that he is an inexperienced empty suit after all.

maybe y'all hope the "magic negro" effect will take him over the top?

at least with McSame you can say he has a lifetime of experience to help him make wise decisions.

  • Mean girl

It would be fairly typical of reformers to take a stealthy approach to fighting entrenched polictical /big business networks. You could fight out in the open and it appears that she did to a point. To get the goods on a network however, you have to see it from the inside. Having done the that, she is free to react. I would recommennd to many Christian conservatives to first appear as liberals and get inside the circle to learn how corrupt and God-less they really are. Believing in all the "gods" doesn't count in America. We "tolerate" them, but to let them run the country would be the end of democracy and government by the people. Look at any country that follows a religion other than Christianity or no religion at all and has an election. Will there ever be a fair election with opposing points of view again? The 'Keep your faith inside the Church doors' crowd would insure that the Christian viewpoint would never be allowed to openly participate in the political process other than vote.

Finally, I have never seen "Salon" before and I'm wondering what hairdressing 'Salon' in Hollywood this eminates from.

As to the allownce of the F-word, I would like to know what

Rape (that is what the F-word means) has to do with good taste an properly addressing the political process. You need to screen your writers for offensive language. I have been out of the loop for a while having just returned from Afghanistan where I have served as a medic saving lives of our soldiers and wounded insurgents as well.

  • mvpeach...It's Not Obama that's Wrecking the Country...

I don't know where you get your information, but I suspect it's right-wing talk radio ala Limbaugh and FOX "fair & balanced" hate TV. Where else would you get the idea that Obama is racist or Muslim? And, despite what the McCain campaign would have you believe, his tax proposals are a reversal of the Bush tax cuts for the wealthy. Haven't you noticed that the ship of state is sinking and Capt. Bush has comandeered all the lifeboats?

  • @BLT

Do you know her personally or are you just shooting from the hip like Talbot?

Either way you have to be kidding, you really think Obama doesn't also have behind the schenes powers that are and will pull his strings.

Besides, if this Country goes any direction I would rather it be towards Christianity.

  • Why don't we hear about Obama's friends Johnson and Raines...

...who brought down the economy instead of innocent Sarah?

  • It's that Goose/Gander thing.

This is silly. How does Palin's ruthlessness differ from Obama's? What about the hatchet job he did on ALice Palmer and his other opponents to get himself elected? He and Palmer were once friends too. And you think Palin should be consorting with a politician under indictment? Because they were friends? How about Tony Rezko? Did Obama support him before he was convicted? These stories are getting lamer and lamer.

  • view from the inside

Thank you David Talbot - your series of investigative articles from Wasilla are examples of true journalism! I am a 27 year resident of Anchorage and observer of our fascinating state politics. You are talking to the right people, and consistently telling the real story of Palin's rise in this state. I will direct more and more 'outsiders' to your series as the best analysis of our current situation.

I described here as a 'mean girl' to my sisters two weeks ago.
