  • 80% popularity isn't enough so we sent ferrets...

...to find out what that malcontent 20% is fussing about. And WOW, we almost care if they're right.

  • Re: How Palin got to be mayor and governor in AK

Different from some of the other bloggers here, I really appreciated learning some more of how Palin got to be mayor and governor in AK. For the life of me, I couldn't figure out how those folks had settled for her. She certainly wasn't qualified based on her record! Poor Wasilla was left 22 million in debt and the state has no support from most folks in the know because she fired anyone who had real credentials and replaced them with her high school cronies. So, this explains a lot, but it also shows how if she had been properly vetted, Senator McCain could have found out how NON-transparent and lacking in REAL reform she really was! He took a gamble to win the election and risked more than the country can with the two of them at the helm especially at this time. Both are impulsive, erratic and prone to temper tantrums! Neither are intelligent, thoughtful or deliberate in decision-making. It is too big a gamble to risk all on them!

  • And?

Sorry, but as much as I detest Sarah Palin I can't see the point of this article. It seems to me that it could be written about any politician. Where are all these brave, altruistic, loyal-even-if-it-destroys-my-career politicians with which to contrast her? It seems to me that Obama has dropped a few inconvenient supporters along the way himself when it proved expedient (anyone remember Jeremiah Wright?).

Let's beat McCain & Palin. Let's mop up the floor with them. But we don't need to grasp at straws like this to do that; there are plenty of serious, legitimate brushes with which to tar Palin without negatively comparing her to some idealized uber-politician who has never existed on the Left or the Right. We'd do better to trumpet her real flaws rather than winkling out these petty political machinations of which our own champions are equally guilty.

  • WHY...?

Why beat up on [poor] Palin..?

Because she got in the ring with the big boys, with her gun, her PITBULL profile, and scorching-ambition-at-any-cost yammering, that's why. She loves fighting, killing, and bullying, pushing, shoving and kneeing....That's why! In other words... you put yourself out there to be targeted, and in America, they're MORE than willing to accommodate.

She's in the ring... She NEEDS to get her as WHIPPED, ROYALLY. That's what McCain put her out front for; so he could sit back and relax and tell us just how STRONG THE ECONOMY IS.

  • This article is freaking hilarious

"She's noty really a reformer" SAID THE MAN IN JAIL, WHOM SHE REFUSED TO HELP.

I guess Obama getting all the competition booted from the IL state senate ballot (on technicalities) was Obama being "nice boy." Perhaps Salon has a different idea of reform than the rest of us.

Let's all vote for Obama...Washington certainly doesn't need any mean girls to come in and treat people badly when they've become corrupt.

  • Mean and deceptive girl

Your article further confirms my discomfort with Sarah Palin. Her deceptive habits with others and the trooper gate issue, especially after she pledged to cooperate and charged "hold me accountable", and using the government power for personal revenge just brings me chills. We have just completed 4 years of such with Bush and Chaney. Considering Mcain's age and health, she is just too close to the top job for comfort.

  • Too bad Michelle wouldn't let Barry have Hillary...

...then he would've garnered more than 15 states.

  • 'Vicious Ambitious' from SnowJob SquareGlasses

That's because SnowJob SquareGlasses (with apologies to 'not-sure-who-came-up-with-this-one' - I did not, however - just don't know who to credit) is Vicious-Ambitious...

Just as you say, throw 'em under the bus, Sarah, when you don't need 'em anymore...

And they wanna to put this doozie up for Vice-President? Granny Clampett from the Beverly Hillbillies once said about Mr. Drysdale, because he was a 'Vice'-President of the bank, admonished him about the 'Vice' part because she said: "I know what YOU'RE in charge of, you nasty so-and-so...

    Puhleeze...

  • So What Else Is New?

Palin sounds like the Republican version of Obama.

  • Ok Salon, come on

She scares me as much as anyone, but the top story every single day?? We get it. Move on. Other things are happening.

I'm finding other sites to read now that aren't a broken record.

  • Sick of her face.

Somebody let me know when that damn annoying silhouette of Palin is off the home page. I am thoroughly sick of seeing some prominent photo or the other of this lightweight goof every time I open Salon.

A picture really does say 1000 words, and Salon keeps saying they view her as might important and powerful. Sickening.

  • there she is again.

    what the hell.

get her face off your site.

she is the headline every day.

put her on page B or C or whatever.

    anything but this.

    holy christ.

  • Too Much Palin?

It seems like virtually every letter responding to this and every other Palin article on Salon is complaining about the focus on her while "preaching to the choir." While I don't disagree that I'm sick of reading about her here as well, it seems that the letter writers are collectively forgetting some aspects of what makes journalism work. Talbot and Salon are NOT, by and large, reporting these things for our sake, but are reporting these issues so that other media outlets will have access to their discoveries. If Salon runs an article about her vicious use of other politicians and then her lying about it, maybe your local newspaper will read it and use it in a piece that WILL go to someone besides the choir. If Salon reports on the poor job she did as mayor, then maybe the local news station will find out about it and report it, or at least look into it, something they might not know about otherwise.

Every publication everywhere can't all send reporters up to Alaska to do this digging. Instead, other news organizations rely upon those news organizations that do send people up North (or wherever) and use these articles as a baseline for some of their own research and reporting. Maybe they won't use this information, lord knows the "mainstream" isn't exactly run by idealists eager to overturn the corporatism that pads their paychecks. But some outlets will read these articles and begin bringing these issues to a larger audience than simply those of us who are already here.
