"David, in what possible way do you think Salon's Palin obsession helps Obama?"
It is NOT the obligation of David Talbot and Salon's editors to try to deduce whether articles about Sarah Palin help or hurt Barack Obama, John McCain, or Palin herself.
It IS the obligation of ALL reporters to find out RELEVANT information about Palin, Biden, Obama, McCain, and others whose decisionmaking might impact this nation.
I agree that Salon should also have detailed articles about the public service histories of others besides Palin. I'm not sure that Salon hasn't done that.
You can also argue that probing Palin is more crucial because her record is much more of a blank slate to voters. You can also argue that all sorts of circulation and viewership numbers demonstrate that Americans are more interested in Palin so articles about her are more valuable to readers.
In any case, I appreciate Salon's investigation of Palin. I find it interesting and important -- particularly the overwhelming evidence that many, if not most, of her erstwhile political allies despise her.
To sum it up, information good, propaganda bad.
Shalom,
