Lipstick.
There are at least four posts tacitly defending Palin:
Xanthro (second post in the thread) claims Bess is the only source for the claim Palin tried to ban his book.
Not true. I provided a link.
Clockwork Smurf (page 3) called it rumor and inuendo with very little evidence to back it up.
Again, not true, I provided a link.
Kittyhogan asks "who care (sic) what some goofy old religious nuts says about Gov. Palin? He's got an ax (sic) to grind..."
Never mind the facts that Palin did, on at least three occasions, inquire about banning books from the Wasilla library.
RIChris called it "free advertising" for the minister and says the article pretends to have a story.
Allow me to repeat--I provided a link, which you obviously didn't view. I have read snopes.com and it confirms what I have actually charged. Palin inquired on at least three occasions about banning books. When the librarian refused to ban books, Palin fired her.
Palin, of course, claims that the firing had nothing to do with the librarians refusal to ban books (she used a very lame excuse that she didn't have the support of the librarian. I will ask again, since when does a mayor need the support of the town librarian?)
The facts are squarely against you. I will repeat: on at least three occasions, Palin asked about banning books and then fired on exceptionally shoddy ground the person that refused. The claim that the inquiring of banning books (which happened on multiple occasions) was a rhetorical, what if, question, is laughable at best.
Yes, the list that has been floating around the internet of supposed books Palin wanted to ban is flat out false. However, the actual story is far worse--firing an individual for apparently standing up to censorship.
My "defense" of Palin, was simply in response to the article as written and presented here.
More importantly it was in reference to the fact that no solid evidence was offered in the article.
I am sure there are photos of Ms. Palin out there holding a picket sign outside the doctors office, I would like to see this image of a screaming wild eyed Palin on every newspaper in the country, just as so many conservatives would like to see an image of Michelle Obama with clenched fist raised on the the front page.
Without that cooberating evidence it is just hearsay. Hearsay may be absolutly true, but it is too easily denied to get wound up about in a political campaign.
Given the ammount of Hearsay that Obama and Clinton have been exposed to it is unlikely that additional hearsay will help.
I can tell you that I spoke with John McCain at length about his devoute relationship with the Church of Satan, and how Satan brought him to where he is today, but without evidence it is just too easily denied.
Ah, at last. Negative press (aka the truth) about Failin' Palin. Took a while, but the male testosterone was bound to wane sooner or later.
This woman is to be feared. Between her lies and McSame's, neither is fit to run this country. Eight years of dictatorship has been more than enough. The change this country needs will NOt BE FOUND with this trophy VP and Daddy Bush-Mccain team.
Now that a few brave souls have come forth, I expect to see a flood of them follow.
I hope you're putting this article out for publication in other venues. 99% of Salonistas are already convinced. Revelations like these need to get to the folks who still don't see what they're being asked to vote for (and, of course, some will greet them with great pleasure, but we can't convert everyone).
John McCain is running for president. Obama doesn't need anyone else to get people excited to vote for him.
As a Southern boy I really liked "The Dukes of Hazard." The Dukes were Robin Hoods. Take from the rich to give to the poor. Get the police state government off my back.
The Dukes were the good guys and the most liberal family in the county.
For Southern boy to vote Republican is for him to be Roscoe in the story.
There should me more southern boys saying this.
If you want better government that's capable of dealing with the real issues our country faces then take the issue of gay rights away from the religious right. It's not the whole answer by far, of course, but this issue does give the religious right an edge in our inland sea of red states. It animates them as much as abortion and helps to launch them into political office where they proceed with destructive and counterproductive policies. Gay people obviously are never going away, and we're not going back in the closet either. The good part is that when we are once granted full equality under the law most people soon recognise that the dire predictions of the theocrats don't come to pass, to say the least, and the issue begins to subside for good. This is the situation today in Massachusetts. Gay rights isn't just for gay people. It's for everyone who hopes for government that can focus on real problems and create a better future for all of us.
Re: "There are nuances here. Palin inquiring about whether she can get books banned is one thing; actually trying to ban books is quite another. There are nuances here. Palin inquiring about whether she can get books banned is one thing; actually trying to ban books is quite another."
Wrong - why is she even ASKING? Because she's feeling around to see how much resistance she can expect to such a request - or to intimidate the librarian - or both!
I can't imagine the mayor of my city asking such a question, and not getting recalled.
With regard to everything we have heard about Governor Palin, it would be a reasonable request for the press to ask her for a public psychological evaluation, by a well informed secular psychologist. I think it would take just thirty minutes on the couch for everyone to understand just how bereft of logical faculties this person is. I think her party and the world for that matter would have no choice but to dismiss her as a charming little lunatic who almost slipped under the radar. We could all wipe the sweat off our brow, and say, “whew, that was a close one.”
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
