For Sarah Palin's Wacked-Out beliefs. Man, the thought of her having access to nuclear weapons scares me more than the thought of Bin Laden having them. We're in deep trouble already, and we've got to keep her from making it worse.
This is MY life time too, and I think the Rapture is a huge crock.
Xanthro, I don't really care about scruples--I care about keeping this woman OUT of the White House at all costs. I think the Rapture right has McCain by the throat. 8 years ago, he'd NEVER have accepted Palin and might have been his own man enough to choose a reasonable VP.
Great discussions over the issues. Great reporting. Sad state of affairs in the mindset of the US.
I have a mother who is trained as a Christian. It is a exquisite religion when practiced with compassion. It is an arrogant religion when you think that everyone faces hell...including the humans born before the "era of Jesus" will be at the judgement and be tossed in hell.
It is boring to hear about how Jesus will come. Humankind should spend more time with compassion instead of thinking about the possibility of judgement. Who cares...life judges...we die...it is life that matters...Effie is the one that loses.
is not her beliefs, everyone is entitled to believe what they will, but her insistance on forcing her beliefs on others. I would not object to her being Vice President if she didn't stand in picket lines to oppose abortions, or declare her disaproval of certain books, movies, whatever... It is her abuse of power, her attempts to fire people for standing in defence of their constitutional rights that make her dangerous. She looks to be worse than Dick Cheney, especially following on his heals to an office that has more power, thanks to him, than ever before. It is the goal of people like her to bring on armeggedon, as if we aren't heading there fast enough without their help.
But this all seems like a lot of rumor and inuendo with very little evidence to back it up.
Sarah Palin may have been an angry protestor outside a doctors office, or she may have been a plum pudding.
It's all very juicy of course, damning if any evidence ever surfaces, but much like the accusations against Mr. Obama and his wife, utterly meaningless without the existence of something other than someone's word who has an axe to grind against the candidate.
Besides, isn't it a well established fact that John McCain is a memeber of the Church of Satan? If you rent the documentary The Occult Experience (1985)in the scene with Anton Levey in the Church's Black Mass, you can clearly see Mr. McCain is a participant. It's uncredited of course, but ask any member of the church and they will happily tell you that's him. He's right there in the left hand of the screen holding the candle. Go ahead look it up.
Beyond that, all the accusations that fly probably have some effect on those predisposed to believe the worst about people. You can believe that Sarah Palin is any of the things laid out in this article, but given the lack of evidence, if you do believe it, you either thought it about her before you read this article or hoped it because you agree with that world view.
To lead the United States into disaster.
I'm a pacifist dualist who believes that no one can call themselves a Christian, and support the military at the same time.
There is a black-and-white choice to make: Peace or Death.
I was baptized a Roman Catholic and I remain Catholic to my core, although the Vatican might argue about the Roman part.
To me there is only one Christian message and one Christian commandment: Love.
Christ preached that all the prophesies and scripture were fonded on love. A generation before Christ, Rabbi Hillel propounded the Golden Rule and stated that everything else is commentary.
As good hearted as many evangelicals are, their political agenda is anti-Christ and anti-Love. So much of Evangelical Christianity is based upon stilted, strained reading of scripture by 19th century zealots who powers of reasoning and deduction were seriously defective. They were literally the false prophets in sheep's clothing the Bible warned us against.
The successful mega-church evangelicals with their opulent palaces contrast with Christ's praise of John the Baptist who dressed in loin cloth and ate berries from bushes: "What did you go out to the desert to see, a man dressed in fine clothing?"
The concept that a heart-beat away from the presidency would be a person who believes that man walked with the dinosaurs is appalling. The denial of science by the evangelicals is already having a dreadful impact on the education of the next generation of American scientists.
Jefferson wrote: "When I read that God is just, I weep for my country." For the abuse of His name by the right wing extremists, I suspect the Christ weeps too.

A good number of Americans agree with Palin's views on the world, and unless progressives stop playing "gotcha" politics and start doing some serious communication, challenging their beliefs, this nation WILL become a theocracy. Dems might win this election cycle, but that won't stop the movement of this nation toward fundamentalism. We arrogantly think that being right is enough. Being right is never enough if you don't have a way to communicate to others why you are right. Look at history, folks. Idealists have lost out time and time again to fascists with better PR. They guys in the black hats usually win, and scrambling about like indignant ants proclaiming to the echo chamber that this women is "dangerous... I tell you DANGEROUS!!!" is not going to change that trend.
Funny how that works out.
Killers for Christ
I've been following the stories about Palin fairly carefully over the last couple of weeks. I've realized that people who like her and plan on voting for her because she's "like them", will do so, no matter what evidence may be revealed and by which source. Even if there is video proof of her actually saying something, her supporters either will say it's taken out of context, it's a lie or it's an attempt to somehow diminish this woman. It's the Democrats who are "elitist""mocking" or whatever. How easy it is to overlook that Palin's running mate, who we can assume will at least be the President on January 20, 2009, if they are elected has 7 homes and Palin herself wears glasses that cost $375, about twice as much as I paid for my own glasses. Isn't that just a tiny bit elitist? (Oh I forget. These are just "lies" and "innuendos" like everything else about Palin/McCain) When these Palin supporters are left without a job, a home and health insurance, thanks to the continuation of the failed Bush policies, perhaps they think they can move into the White House, or go out and hunt moose after their 8 hour emergency room visit, the only health care they'll be able to afford.
Much of the initial coverage about Fort Hood turned out to be wrong. Is there anything wrong with that?
